Musk is making a calculated move to the right.
A far cry from when he professed his inspiration was Iain Banks, a Scottish socialist SF writer whose magnificent The Culture series features future post-humans who can change gender on a whim and live in an anarcho-communist post-Singularity star spanning civilization.

Good on him.

California is truly a clown world. It will be amusing to watch it go broke but sad to see all the people who want to leave but cannot due to financial trouble.
bass4funk
Born there, grew up half of my life there, used to deeply love the state, but after 1996 things started sliding downhill very rapidly and they have been losing people, aggressive tax policies, businesses closing all over the place, woke as hell, Newsom completely demolished that beautiful state.

Good for him time to stop this Marxist nonsense and these far-left teachers who are harming children. This is part of the Marxist play book, damage the children and brainwash them so they turn against their parents because the left wants to destroy the nuclear family.
Gaijinjland
He’s not wrong. As a parent, I would want to be informed about everything regarding my children. I support transgender rights but I think the pronoun thing is for an entirely different group who don’t identify as either gender. I can’t stand people being referred to as “they,” “them,” etc., as if a single person is plural. I don’t care if you were born male or female but choose a preferred pronoun/ gender and stop making it so difficult.

Some sanity, great news! And Elon is on board with Trump!

If Musk really wants his business to succeed maybe he should spend more of his time worrying about Trump calling Teslas "hoaxes that have to be recharged every 30 minutes"...
https://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-climate-change-electric-cars-iowa-2024-campaign-1831472
So Musk supports a guy that is lying about his product and trying to put him out of business...
Welcome to MAGA-world...

“ The governor of California just signed a bill causing massive destruction of parental rights and putting children at risk for permanent damage. “
“ I did make it clear to Governor Newsom about a year ago that laws of this nature would force families and companies to leave California to protect their children. “
An obvious decision. Well done, Elon!

He just X’d this:
“ Have had enough of dodging gangs of violent drug addicts just to get in and out of the building. “
Lmao. San Francisco (and California)… what a mess.

California has so many rich people and companies leaving that it introduced an exit Tax.
Don't be fooled, yes MSM and California will claim it has no exit Tax, then quietly say "well only on the rich and corporations".
So to leave California a company must pay an exit Tax then because California still has no money it passed Assembly Bill 2088, (which will more than likely be challenged,) this Bill now law, would give California the right to tax former high income residents and companies despite no longer being located in the State.
If they still own property, or have substantial business presence there.
So if Musk moves his business out, but still does business in California, the state will try and tax his full business income for up to 10 years after exiting the State.
The only reason to create both these laws is because too many people and businesses are leaving,

wot? Instead of using his platform to fight, he runs off?
This ideology started decades ago, it used to be fringe, Stanford, then Harvard, then....then...Texas! You can't run anymore, you have to stand against it.
It's a virus, first they say you are different, then they offer you a chance to be offended because people treat you different, even cultural differences is branded as offensive (like micro-aggression). They do not want you to be strong and resilient, They want you to be easily offended and runs to a saviour. Guess who is branding themselves as saviour to the self oppressed?

Woke movement is very obsessive and absurd at times, but the right wing side is going to become really dangerous if they win the next election.
True.
I'm not American but, isn't the USA going crazy? Every country is radicalizing their postures about pretty much everything, it looks like we didn't learn anything from the 20th century.

Everyone knows California is a high tax state and that other states will offer sweetheart deals to attract employers. Not paying tax is bad for PR though, so easier to blame any relocation on identity politics. Anyone going to the massive cost and disruption of relocating their company simply for identity politics is incompetent.
LGBT has nothing to do with Marxism. If anything, people saying things that conflict conventional thinking about sex is libertarian, so blame Ayn Rand and Austrian Economics.
GuruMick
I believe the state of California itself is in the top 10 in the world when it comes to GDP.
Bigger than Italy for example.
I believe Musk is a worrisome nuisance .

Irony and hypocrisy usually goes over the heads of those who typically want to lean right.

Good idea
Musk haters are at the grade school level on issues about censorship and free speech and love meaningless stories about LBBQ rights and such
Jonathan Prin
You mean applied common sense ?
Common sense helped that guy to establish international companies to change and develop the world : automatic worldwide payment, reusable rockets, long autonomy VE, etc.
Moreover, he has a transgender child, so please stop spitting on somebody very aware on those issues.
Honest and impartial view of situation is needed to be reported.
Why media love to show him as a cry baby or low IQ person ?

Musk hates not being in the limelight.

Lots of love from our far-right friends for Musk, so who is accurate and who is lying?
Musk when he says electric vehicles are the way of the future, more economical, and everyone should buy a Tesla?
Or Trump when he says EVs are "hoaxes" that you have to recharge every half hour, and are all made in China stealing US jobs?

is there anyone out there with a child who if they later learned that their child had somehow sexually transitioned, perhaps even in elementary school, would support the teacher who knew but chose not to tell them?
i want to hear this person's reasoning on this issue; and focus specifically on elementary school, please. i acknowledge that by high school, children should have some sort of privacy.
TokyoLiving
What a clown...
john b
one more ask!:
is there anyone out there with a child in elementary school, a child who most likely has not come to understand sexuality, their own or that of others, who thinks it is either necessary or beneficial for their child to understand some or all of the lgbtq+ options in the world before they even feel the inevitable pull of these questions?
i want to hear this person's reasoning, because i want to understand. my thinking is so completely different; i can't even imagine the argument on the other side.

As much as I am ambivalent about the new California law, Musk is a real fart no matter what he does, and this action, like all his other ones, is simply another futile attempt to get people to notice him.
GuruMick
California most populous US state.
Population declines last three years in the 0.2 % range, before that population increased year by year.
So Bass, any more theories you want debunked. ?
I'd be worried to have shares in a company that makes huge business decisions based on whims of the owner.
Or, did Texas offer more subsidies.
GuruMick
John B above....children at a young age havent assimilated the prejudice adults want to instill in them.
Thats my answer to your conundrum.
bass4funk
You didn’t debunk any.

First time I'm with Elon on anything. That use of preferred pronoun stuff is bull.
Gareth Myles
Perhaps Elon Musk is looking ahead, and making sure that his companies are on the correct side of the divide when Texas secedes.

So if I get the logic here:
A state with a rule that simply states teachers don't have to inform parents about what pronoun their kids go by is the end of the world for families.
But a state that will lock your daughter up and throw away the key for getting an abortion is totally family friendly.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Conservatives are terrified now that their sons may be playing at being girls at school. No help for the insecure I guess, but keep it out of school policy and maybe talk with your kids once in a while.
owzer
Telling children that they can talk to you about their sexuality but they shouldn't, or don't have to tell their parents sounds like something a sexual predator would say.
CrashTestDummy
Both of you have accurate statements. I am born, raised, and live in California (Silicon Valley) and Newsom and the progressive Democrats have really made California much, much worse. They are not solving problems and creating a ton of problems. It sad to see the Calfornia trainwreck over the years.
CrashTestDummy
Exactly. It really is unbelievable Newsom and progressive Democrats passed this. Horrible.

In a recent article on CBC about a Ukrainian (man) in Canada and his problems related to not wanting to register for conscription.
They pointed out he says he is non-binary and uses "they, them, their".
Well trying to reas the article I got confused, and in the comments, many were pointing out how they were also confused because at some point we no longer knew if "they" and "thier" was referring to the one guy or him and his family or his roommate, or the others also referenced in the article.
Example:
The "guy" lives with others and several times the article said "their" apartment and their room, did the author mean just the guys apartment? Does the guy and one if his roommates share a room?
It went on like this for several paragraphs with " they, them, thier" being used more times than I could possibly remember and in some cases it was the guy, in others I think it was his other Ukrainian roommates, some his family and him (again I am guessing) , and other times Ukrainian men in general living in Canada.
Yes I imagine if we read the article several time over and over again, we would finally unravel each use of "they, them, thier).
But the point of "they, them, thier" as well as "he, him, her, she" was to make it easier to know more precisely what is being said.

Is it illegal not to employ transgenders in Texas?
"Based on the Bostock ruling, a hostile work environment based on an employee's sexual orientation or gender identity violates the law just as much as a hostile work environment based on gender, race, religion, national origin, age, or disability."
https://efte.twc.texas.gov/lgbt_issues.html#:~:text=Based%20on%20the%20Bostock%20ruling,origin%2C%20age%2C%20or%20disability.
Does Texas have employment discrimination laws?
"The laws protect you from employment discrimination when it involves: Unfair treatment because of your race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, gender identity, and sexual orientation), national origin, disability, age (age 40 or older), or genetic information."

GDP means nothing, a quick look at the G 7 and see how badly in debt some are far outstripping any positive their GDP may make it look.
Now the reality, high GDP higher debt and higher debt to GDP ratio.
