Some dude
I hope the technicians at Nissan have some good fireproofing technology, as well as a heck of a PR team.

"Nissan shares jump 11% on reported plan to seek Tesla investment."
That's really wise decision and a great strategy! Way to go Nissan, I miss my wheels.
CrashTestDummy
Nissan should bring back a newly designed Xterra. Rugged full-4wd SUVs are really popular in the US right now.
ThePunisher
You can actually smell the desperation from Nissan.
Wasabi
Musk should not come to Japan after this, remember Mr Ghosn?
The_Beagle
I can't see the upside for Tesla in doing so.

Here we go...

LOL, does Nissan really want Elon Musk running it after witnessing how Elon's DOGE was firing everyone at Twitter(80% laid off) and US federal government?
Elon's laying off thousands of CIA officers and hundreds of nuclear weapons controllers.
It's gonna be a bloodbath at Nissan if Elon took it over.
Wasabi
After Honda fiasco, they are going lower...

I'm not normally one to cheer Japan's hostage justice system, but if they could disappear President Musk, I think it would be generally considered an act of altruism.
Daniel Neagari
mmmm ... if that is true and really comes to that, I am going to be very sad but my next car is not going to be a Nissan then...... all my life I have been drinving Nissan (before that a Datsun) but teaming up with Tesla and their swastikars is where the line is drawn
Namahage
Oh,stop.
I am holding my sides.
This is Kismet.

I almost wish it would happen except, Musk is very cinning he only behaves unhinged in safe spaces like the US because he has no respect for the American people. In Japan he wouldn't be able to get away with his immature behavior. Nissan does come accross as desperate or rudderless in a pasta to the wall, hail Mary kind of way.
sakurasuki
Japan Inc is agree being DOGEized by musk than being bankrupt?
Remember is only asking not yet a deal.

My how times change, Nissan had world's first real mass market EV, the Leaf, way back in 2009 and Tesla had yet to really even build a car....
Culture matters, the dirty biz culture vs. the global tech. culture, guess we can all figure out which is which here!
These days Leaf's hardly evolved not surprisingly, so much for 'first mover advantage'!
Musk seems likely to take a HARD pass on the cash hemorrhaging Nissan that was just downgraded to JUNK status by Moody's, and was probably none too impressed with how Carlos Ghosn was treated either.
Nibek32
Hopefully president musk stays away from the design side because Tesla’s are the ugliest cars on the market.
WoodyLee
Yup, Mr. Musk is the one that will Drain The Swamp and put Datsun back on it's feet only If Mr. Uchida agrees to leave.
HopeSpringsEternal
Nissan would have to PAY Elon Musk to take full ownership of Nissan and I'm talking serious cash, because his opportunity costs are too high. No time to fix a lousy broken company, as he's going to Mars!
SwissToni
If Nissan wasn’t happy with the way Renault did business, they’re in for a real shock should they get any investment from Musk.
HopeSpringsEternal
Young educated people LOVE Elon because he's so busy disrupting old industries, creating new industries, solving serious problems and creating LOTS of jobs!
No way Elon takes on failed Nissan, as way too much damage to his brand. Companies like Nissan, REASON Tesla is so successful, a greedy corrupt profit ONLY biz culture uninterested in constant innovation and investment that benefits both customers and society.
Sven Asai
Anyway, generally said, customers in car nations like US, Japan, Germany still mostly prefer real cars or hybrid technology cars, but surely not pure EVs.
HopeSpringsEternal
Today the supply chains are insufficient and too China centric for EV's to dominate the market, but every year pure EV's are taking global market share, growing +25%
Just a matter of time, but Nissan has no time or merit in EV or anything else, simply a failed legacy maker, so expect Honda or Foxcom to step in once the Nissan CEO receives the Carlos Ghosn 'treatment'.
Abe234
OK. So we got rid of Ghosn because he wanted closer ties with Peugeot, and Nissan didn't like that.
Nissan wanted to tie up with Honda, but that didn't work out to well either.
Now it's wanting to get into bed with a Tesla and the ADHD Lunatic Musk. and somehow, that's going to be a good deal? You might as well have stuck Peugeot. If anything, getting involved with Tesla, a manufacturer that has a massive P/E ratio of 1/170, just doesn't seem like a good deal unless it can suck Tesla into the NISSAN. But if it's Tesla taking over Nissan, that's gonna end badly for Nissan. As for Elon being a disrupter, he did not start Tesla; he was just an investor. Other projects haven't really worked out, and the only other thing is space. But he hasn't done anything NEW there that NASA hasn't already done. As a private business, there is no way on THIS PLANET (pun intended) he is going to put his money into a Mars trip. It makes no business sense. Well, he will if it's other people's money cause he doesn't earn anything. Allegedly!
HopeSpringsEternal
Elon's already got big plans to place satellites around Mars, it's a long game to go multi-planetary for humans, many new markets and opportunities will emerge.
We know space will be mined for new materials and solar will generate huge energy that can be easily moved using lasers for example.
Nothing quite so exciting at Nissan, hence it'll be Foxcom, Honda or Renault that takes over at some point to clean house and create synergies, I'd bet on Foxcom.
aaronagstring
Good. I hope they take each other down.
Speed
Well, that's one clever push to evade the tariffs Trump is going to put on auto imports. If Elon's Tesla was in cahoots with Nissan, they'd probably be exempt from them.
MiuraAnjin
Meanwhile, Foxconn are now courting Honda. Interesting times ahead.
MiuraAnjin
Third Gen. will be released soon, based on the Ariya platform. If they can keep the RRP down it could herald a turn around.
Upcoming Micra reincarnation looks promising too.

Surely a US company can’t buy Nissan, for strategic national security reasons?
chotto_2
because we need more reasons to boycott both of them
Jim
The amazing way the Japanese stock exchange operates…lol ! Soon the stocks will move because of someone farting somewhere!
AnotherExpert
Seeking links to Elon Musk, clearly they are willing to be boycotted.
Anyone foolish enough to buy any of their vehicles should think very carefully about who they are actually supporting.
ALmost
Agree. However, I am biased at this moment. If I owned a Tesla today, I would get rid of it ASAP. I couldn't with a clear conscience be driving around with Musk's "presence" all around me. Or simply take a chainsaw and finish it off then and there :)
proxy
I saw a Nissan Leaf at a charging station in Chiba. It certainly looked better than a Tesla.

That's really what defines the left, "you are either with us or against us." The beginning of cancel culture which is ethically and morally wrong. If the product is of good quality and the price is right who cares who made it. After all check all your clothes where they made and don't forget your shoes too.
