Or what? Are you going to tariff them some more so they raise prices even more on your cultists?

Why would Walmart need to 'eat the tariffs' if, as Trump has long claimed, 'a tariff is a tax on a foreign country'?

21 ( +22 / -1 )

WalMart is NOT in the business of eating Trump's tariffs. WalMart is in the business of making profits. Therefore any additional costs to their overhead will simply be passed off to consumers.

This is basic economics

22 ( +24 / -2 )

I’ll be watching…

Maybe his rants are ChatGPT generated, since current version and Trump have so many hallucinations? Who knows what goes on in the brain of Trump? It is not a normal brain.

14 ( +17 / -3 )

Trump doesn't get to directly control prices. Now, if he wants to alter the environment to make prices cheaper, perhaps by actually helping the US economy and striving to get the AAA rating back, then he should work on that.

Trump knows ZERO about retail pricing. He's just showing his ignorance for the 10th time today, as happens most days he speaks anywhere.

Another useless threat by Trump. Just like the thousands of others he's made in his life.

12 ( +15 / -3 )

He’s crazy enough to impose price controls. Never underestimate his ability to do the wrong thing.

14 ( +15 / -1 )

Is Trump sane? This is a serious question - he is quite elderly.

12 ( +15 / -3 )

Laguna, to give an easy to understand answer:

NOPE!

Hey Trump people: What say you? Some of you claim to be more knowledgeable than corporate executives and also claim Trump is the world's best corporate executive. But he is making big bucks with his Trump Coin

13 ( +13 / -0 )

“Walmart should STOP trying to blame Tariffs as the reason for raising prices throughout the chain,” Trump posted. “Walmart made BILLIONS OF DOLLARS last year, far more than expected. Between Walmart and China they should, as is said, “EAT THE TARIFFS,” and not charge valued customers ANYTHING. I’ll be watching, and so will your customers!!!”

Delusion, ignorance and childishness.

He does have an ability to cram all of that in in a short space.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

He's lost it - brain totally fried...

Threatening a private company from pricing its own items?

What happened to the "we love business and government should stay out" Republican Party?

Answer: Dead and buried...it's the MAGA Fascist Party now...

12 ( +13 / -1 )

Classic abuser talk.

"Don't you dare wear concealer to hide that black eye I gave you!"

10 ( +15 / -5 )

Hey Trump people: What say you? Some of you claim to be more knowledgeable than corporate executives and also claim Trump is the world's best corporate executive.

Fox hasn't told them what to think yet.

10 ( +14 / -4 )

What did he think would happen with his tariff tax?

-2 ( +17 / -19 )

He said the company, based in Bentonville, Arkansas, should sacrifice its profits for the sake of his economic agenda

Reading the article, it seems that he didn't say it quite like that...

So hard to find honest reporting these days.

I don't even agree with his tariff policies either, I should add.

-16 ( +0 / -16 )

What a pathetic childish clown, demanding that others hide the consequences of his immense stupidity.

6 ( +10 / -4 )

Trump, clueless as he is, should know better: capitalists don't eat profits - they're in the business of making them. And Trump 2.0 is hell-bent on opening up America to ruthless profiteerers and carpetbaggers like nobody has ever seen before.

13 ( +13 / -0 )

WalMart is NOT in the business of eating Trump's tariffs. WalMart is in the business of making profits. Therefore any additional costs to their overhead will simply be passed off to consumers.

Actually, they won't be able to pass them on, since people will just simply not buy those goods at those increased prices. Somebody, somewhere is going to have asorb the extra costs. Walmart should think long term.

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

I think the root of the problem is that trump doesn’t actually know what a tariff is.

11 ( +11 / -0 )

Trump is clueless on economy as he cannot spell it.

He went bankrupt multiple times running his companies and now wants wants American companies to go under by eating the tariffs as Trump does not know how tariffs work.

Biggest clown elected by some really other dumb people in USA.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

What Trump says makes sense. If America is to be great again, it requires businesses and entities to take one for Team America which means to cut your profits and don't raise prices. If the American people, who are known to be one of the most resilient people in the world, can't take a little cut in profits, then the war of tariffs cannot be won and American will not be great again.

-9 ( +0 / -9 )

Once again Trump is spot on. Domestic crooked problems are the real issue.

-14 ( +1 / -15 )

Somehow it doesn't surprise me that our MAGA-friends don't see the irony or hypocrisy in Trump demanding Walmart reduce prices, and not raise them due to his tariffs...

When Trump sells his Chinese-made high-top sneakers for $399, his Trump Chinese-made Bibles for $59.99, and his Chinese-made watches for $1K...

MAGA-world - the grifting keeps going...

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Walmart has been making billions of dollars in profit. From cheap Chinese crap.

so they don’t need to publicly announce they need to raise prices, just do it like they always do: to make shareholder profits.

they didn’t announce they raised prices specifically due to Autopen’s 8% inflation, did they?

-12 ( +4 / -16 )

The increased prices for vegetables and fruits do not come from China. Mostly Mexico.

-4 ( +10 / -14 )

Walmart has been making billions of dollars in profit. From cheap Chinese crap.

I guess you missed this....

When Trump sells his Chinese-made high-top sneakers for $399, his Trump Chinese-made Bibles for $59.99, and his Chinese-made watches for $1K...

You have any of this MAGA "crap"?

9 ( +11 / -2 )

You voted for an increase in vegetable and fruit prices. There's a word for that, but I won't post it.

-3 ( +11 / -14 )

This is stupid

If Walmart doesn't raise prices due to the tariffs, that defeats the whole purpose of the tariffs!

Remember, tariffs are meant to raise the prices of imported goods to be more in line with the prices of domestic goods - so that the prices of domestic goods are competitive with the new higher prices of imported goods

So let's say, the original price of a Chinese-imported bike is half the price of a domestic-made US bike, and if Walmart eats the cost of the tariffs, then the price of the Chinese-imported bike is still half the price of the US-made bike! So why would consumers not keep buying the cheaper Chinese-imported bike?!

If a Japanese-made car is originally cheaper than an US-made car, and the importer doesn't raise the Japanese-made car's price - then guess what, people will still keep wanting the cheaper Japanese-made car! US-made cars will continue to get outsold!

Ya just defeated your own tariffs

So far, those tariffs have darkened the mood of an otherwise resilient U.S. economy. The preliminary reading of the University of Michigan survey of consumer sentiment on Friday slipped to its second lowest measure on record, with roughly 75% of respondents “spontaneously” mentioning tariffs as they largely expected inflation to accelerate.

4 ( +6 / -2 )

as they largely expected inflation to accelerate.

yet inflation last month was the lowest since Feb 2021.

fact.

-12 ( +1 / -13 )

American capitalism at its best.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

You voted for an increase in vegetable and fruit prices

no, Walmart is doing that to pad their corporate profits and to publicly undermine and resist who and what I voted for.

Would you see price rises from any company as politically motivated and an act of sabotage?

Do you think Trump saw this coming in his 4D chess grand strategy?

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Exhibit A:

“Callahan Auto is officially severing all ties with Walmart!

It’s come to my attention they raised prices on Callan Brake Pads (in the name of tariffs) even though we manufacture and source 100% in the USA!!!”

-13 ( +2 / -15 )

Would you see price rises from any company as politically motivated and an act of sabotage?

when publicly announced as “only because of Trump’s tariffs”, yes of course!

Wouldn’t you?

-14 ( +0 / -14 )

Price increases from May.

yet the China tariffs are paused for 90 days, aren’t they?

so why from May?

-16 ( +0 / -16 )

Would you see price rises from any company as politically motivated and an act of sabotage?

when publicly announced as “only because of Trump’s tariffs”, yes of course!

Wouldn’t you?

Not the question that was asked.

Would you see price rises from any company, I repeat any, as a politically motivated act?

It’s just that many serious people, not all of them Trump detractors, repeatedly warned that tariffs would see higher prices for customers.

it requires businesses and entities to take one for Team America which means to cut your profits and don't raise prices

Are all of them in a position to take one for Team America?

I’m not sure they are.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Would you see price rises from any company, I repeat any, as a politically motivated act?

no, just the ones that companies choose to politicize in public pronouncements as to “what/who” is “to blame” to escape the own desire for more profits.

when they never previously announced that with other past price increases.

-16 ( +0 / -16 )

Thought trump and his boyos loved free speech.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Would you see price rises from any company, I repeat any, as a politically motivated act?

no

That’s progress of a kind.

Smaller operations are on edge as they are are less able to ‘eat the tariffs’.

This isn’t politically motivated.

What do you think of the serous unease among smaller operations?

Don’t talk about CNN here.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

American expats living in Japan voted for Trump tariffs leading to US domestic store price increases that they do not have to pay in Japan.

-6 ( +7 / -13 )

American companies will take advantage of Trump's tariffs by rising its customer prices leading to inflation down the road. Trump's cause and effect.

-5 ( +8 / -13 )

What do you think of the serous unease among smaller operations?

if your “business” is based on buying lots of crap for a dollar from China and shipping it to USA to sell for two dollars, that’s not a business:

that’s an eBay account.

-13 ( +1 / -14 )

And if you can’t pay $3 to make your product in the US cause you can only sell it for $2?

Also not a business.

-12 ( +1 / -13 )

Walmart has been making billions of dollars in profit. From cheap Chinese crap.

but but but…,China!

Trump already lost the trade war to China. Get over it.

8 ( +9 / -1 )

What do you think of the serous unease among smaller operations?

if your “business” is based on buying lots of crap for a dollar from China and shipping it to USA to sell for two dollars, that’s not a business:

Yes, it is a business. Trump has flogged his crap made in China. He’s a great businessman according to himself.

Anyway, why are you limiting this to China?

Are you under the impression that smaller operations are only selling Chinese produced goods?

Is it that simple in your world?

5 ( +5 / -0 )

if your “business” is based on buying lots of crap for a dollar from China and shipping it to USA to sell for two dollars, that’s not a business:

That’s the American business model and what props up the US economy.

Even trump has his magat hats made in China and sells them to American suckers.

8 ( +8 / -0 )

“Walmart made BILLIONS OF DOLLARS last year, far more than expected.

and there you have it Trump admiting business were doing far better under Bidens economy,

whether you believe its a good or bad thing?

6 ( +7 / -1 )

yet the China tariffs are paused for 90 days, aren’t they?

theyre paused at 30% while China has 10% on the US.

its the uncertanty that keeps buisness guessing, so theyll plan fot the worse so raise prices on the cuent 30% and even higher if Trump choose to go thouse route
