Jobs and money, great news!

And the naysayers shall still be out in force.

Apparently tariffs work, at least in the short term.

More investment in the USA directly related to tariffs!

TSMC was already invested in the U.S. before the tariffs though

Yes they were.

So the word “more” was written to show the increased investment due to tariffs.

plans to delay construction of its second plant in Japan to prioritize investment in its U.S. operations to avoid tariffs

So the chips out of the planned second plant are not for the Japanese economy but for export to US? That's how I would read it. Well, then it's not a bigger loss. Of course a few jobs aren't created here , but I guess it's already difficult enough to have enough of the needed IC experts at hand and lure them into more shrinking and aging quasi rural areas where those plants are usually installed into, due to clean air requirements.

JapanInc too slow,as usual.

You snooze, you lose.

Thanks again, Trump. Who needs a "friend" like that?

This story doesn’t make sense. TSCM are essentially a component manufacturer that other companies need in their finished products so why do they need to worry about tariffs? The companies using their components would pay the tariff…

it’s not like those companies can easily source an alternative US based supplier.

On April 1, the Trump administration opened new investigations that could result in tariffs on semiconductors.

Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962 allows the president to impose tariffs on goods deemed essential for national security.

The semiconductor investigation will assess the national security impacts not only of chips, but also manufacturing equipment and so-called “derivative products” inducing wafers, legacy computer chips and components.

Thanks for explaining the how, what about the why?

Maybe there are US based competitors already able to fill the void?

The company doing the importing pays the tariff, nothing changes there. So unless TSMC is importing the chips themselves to sell in the US, how do tariffs affect them?

Remember, TSMC's best customers are in the US, especially big tech, so Japan's not their priority market.

For 2025, US economy will likely be 9x larger than Japan and it'll only get relatively larger moving forward, so TSMC has to take the $market reality carefully into consideration when prioritizing their $CAPEX rollout.

It's also likely Trump's applying pressure, that's what he does so well to get results, he's active and engaged, why Americans happy he's got their economic 'back' unlike previous idiot Presidents giving $everything away!

Entire world benefits by TSMC and other Chip makers reshoring to US, as it diversifies this critical chip supply chain. Within 5 years, Taiwan will lose all its leverage

Greater global manufacturing capacity, including supply chains, makes world's economy more resilient and less likely to have shocks leading to inflation, lost output, etc.

Thus, Trump's tariff and reshoring/re-industrialization helping the ENTIRE World/see above
