I am sorry but this is one of the weakest defenses I've ever heard, I don't think there is a person on this planet that would gree with the defence team, that a pipe bomb won't cause injury, there is a bit of a hint in the title, " bomb" that's what bombs do, is explode, kill, maim. He knew exactly what he was aiming and trying to do.
