Police in Soma City, Fukushima Prefecture, have arrested a 37-year-old man on suspicion of attempting to kill his two-year-old son by strangling him at their home.
According to police, Yasuyuki Suzuki, a company employee, is accused of strangling his son at around 9:20 p.m on June 8, NTV reported.
Police said Suzuki stopped when the baby started losing consciousness and called 119.
The incident came to light when the hospital reported the incident as a case of possible child abuse to police the next day.
Police said Suzuki has admitted to the allegation but has so far given no motive. The child’s mother was out at the time.
The baby is currently receiving treatment in hospital but his life is not in danger, police said.

Just another family day here. Lock the man up and never let him see the child again.

"Yes, I strangled him, which is one of the most common methods of killing someone, but did not intend to kill him."
