Police in Miyoshi Town, Saitama Prefecture, have arrested a 52-year-old man on suspicion of sexually assaulting a teenage girl at a hotel in May.
According to police, Naoya Kato, a company employee from Namegata City, Ibaraki Prefecture, is accused of threatening and confining a teenage girl who attends a vocational school in a room at a hotel in Miyoshi in May, TV Asahi reported. Police said he allegedly sexually assaulted her while filming the act with his smartphone.
The two met on social media. Police said Kato has partially denied the charges, and quoted him as saying “I did not threaten or confine the girl."
Kato was arrested last month over a separate indecent assault, and police are questioning him about other similar incidents, as well as examining the contents of his smartphone.

Oh no not again! This vile monster needs locking up for a ruddy long time. Where I come from people like him are called a beast in prison and live in fear of attacks by other inmates who consider them the lowest of the low.

I'm not victim blaming but why do so many young girls go to love hotels with older men? What do they think they are going to do there? Make green tea or flash for cash? Stop going to love hotels with older men and this problem will go away.

Almost 2025 and a teenage girl is sexually assaulted and filmed by a sexual deviant and the only responses thus far apart from mine are laying the blame on the victim who may well be traumatised for life.

for this act you need two....i have nothing more to say...

Lots of victim blaming here.
Teenagers make teenage mistakes, it's a know fact. You blamers probably all did many kind of stupid mistakes in your teenage years.
52 y.o. ojisan luring young girls through app in a hotel room don't make mistakes. They perfectly know what they're doing.

The victim is not at fault.

”deviant”?
Using that word to describe gays, for example, is looked down upon yet okay here? Deviating from what, exactly?

Sickening innit mate. People like them about on the streets and we have to think about our female family members and friends.

We don't know how old the "Teenager" is so that could be a 7 year variation. A 13 yr old would be possibly not aware of the dangers and easily fooled but a 19 yr old should have more street smarts and realize the dangers.
So whether there is any fault on the girls part can't be determined or commented on until we have more facts.

I doubt there was much "luring" involved. Looks more like enjo kosai gone wrong.

She is a vocational school student, so she is 18 or 19. No 13 year old is a vocational school student.

If she’s 18, all is good.
Alongfortheride
If the girl is 18 or 19 as suggested above there is fault on her part for going to the hotel with him in the first place

Surely you udnertsand 'sexual consent' - please tell me you and the folks voting understand what Sexual consent because it is very worrying to me.
What is it?
So if a girl goes to a love hotel with a man she is obligated to have sex with the guy she went with?
She has no choice in the matter? She is not allowed to change her mind?!
Why are there men running around in public believing that there are situations where men get to do whatever they want with a women whether she likes it or not!?
Michael Corleone
the 52-year-old man could've lied about his age on social media, he could've used a fake profile photo and pretended to be a teenager himself, or more likely he offered her a lot of money for papakatsu and just didn't pay.
either way, the victim is not to blame...
well done to her for reporting it!!

Why did you just do the thing you said you were not doing?!

Indeed, and just for those who seem to not understand the law around sex:
A person has the right to say no to sex at any time, even if they initially agreed. Consent must be freely given, enthusiastic, and ongoing.

Help me out here. Are you saying that if a woman goes to a hotel with you, she must then have intercourse with you even if she doesn't want to or changes her mind? In other words, if she says 'no, stop!' you will force yourself on her anyway?
Is that what you're saying? I may be wrong, but I can't interpret it any other way.
Alongfortheride
Are you saying you have proof she changed her mind? You should contact the police with the information you have. OR is it just as possible AFTER the event she saw another way to extort money out of the guy and cry abuse? Is that not also possible?
kohakuebisu
JP press does not refer to underage girls involved in sexual abuse cases as "10 dai", translated here as "teenager". It will refer to them as JHS, SHS, or elementary school students.
Just on "teenager" as a translation of 10 dai, but 10, 11. and 12 year olds are 10 dai but not "teenagers".
If he did nonconsensual things, it's a crime regardless of her age.
Alongfortheride
I am pleased you said "IF" he did nonconsensual things. And you are right, but at the moment people here are making judgement calls on things they don't know.
owzer
and…
Actually no. When it’s all said and done, you can’t withdraw consent after the fact.

Erm, think it’s pretty clear what type of a fiend this creature is.
Alongfortheride
Exactly!! You "THINK" You were not there, you do not know so how can you judge people who victim blame when we don't know who the victim is yet?
Alongfortheride
If your 18 year old daughter was found to be in a hotel room with a 50 something year old guy she met on the internet would you not ask yourself why she even went there or is that also the guys fault too? I would at least think my daughter has been educated enough at 18 to not even go there in the first place. Perhaps some parents don't care , i'm not sure

No I wouldn’t, it’s irrelevant if a crime has been committed . The man is being questioned regarding several other sexual offences.
it is our duty to protect people especially the young from predators and that’s what this walking piece of human waste is.
However negligent the victims were his crimes are inexcusable and they are the victims, victims not just a victim. He may have dozens maybe hundreds of them.
Yohan
I would definitively care as a father and ask my daughter in such a case why she went with such a guy to a love hotel - for what reason, for taking money from him? Or for what else?
I would also ask my daughter if she is doing this with other unknown men too she meets somehow on the internet. Even if it is not for money which means prostitution, it should be noticed that promiscuity is also under certain circumstances considered to be a crime.
Yohan
As they met on internet - police investigators should look up all online-conversations between them.
There are plenty of young women who create internet profils solely for the reason to meet men for sex in return of money.
Women are not always the innocent helpless little girls as some comments here suggest and blame only men for all and everything if something is going wrong between consenting adults.
I cannot think about any other reason except offering sex for money why a young woman should meet an unknown 52 y/o man for the first time, goes with him immediately and willingly to a private room in a love-hotel.

97% of sexual assault victims in Japan never report it.
Most men convicted of sexual assault in Japan are set free with indefinite suspended sentences or given light sentences and not put on a sex offenders list.
And you are doubting the honesty of women in such cases.
It's no wonder Japan is ranked among the lowest in the world for respect and equality for women with attitudes like this.

I agree with you entirely. I’ve found some of the comments on this article to be rather upsetting.
