Police in Fukuroi, Shizuoka Prefecture, have arrested a 74-year-old man on suspicion of stalking a 23-year-old woman by repeatedly sending her text messages.
According to police, the man first met the woman in May at the shop where she works, Kyodo News reported. The woman told police he came into the store a few times and would try to chat her up.
She said the man sent her 13 text messages in which he asked if she had a boyfriend, and what his name and profession were.
When the woman told the man to stop bothering her, he posted obscene messages about her by name on social media.
The man, who was arrested on Friday, was quoted by police as saying he texted the woman but can’t remember posting anything about her on social media.

Why she gave her number to him in the first place? Should just gave him shop number.

Yes, entirely her fault. She should be sent to prison, not him.

I have no doubt there is a lot more to the lead up than is mentioned in this article. She was obviously friendly enough with him to give him her phone number. Either that or she is really stupid. He might have been flashing money around to win her over. In a nutshell, he is a creep and she is dumb.

Seventy-four going on fourteen. You had no chance to begin with, grandpa. Just take the rejection and walk away.

Agreed.

What a terribly queer affair. One wonder why a chap of his advanced years would be interested in a lady of such tender years. I wonder if he has some mental health issues or if he is just a dirty old man as Harold 'Steptoe would say.

I did not know that text messages are considered stalking. Could she not just block this creep?

The gap between what I want and what I can get is vast. So many single elderly ladies in Japan who might appreciate his attention.

How did he get her number and her name? Did she give it to him? Why give such information to a stranger? Odd. Also couldn't she have blocked his number to stop receiving his messages? Again, odd.

Evolution insures this would always be the case.

He probably has some mental health issues.
I mean the police in a heartbeat can assess the level of harassment and send him to where he should be.
One can become a creep if one's health deteriorates. At the same time, why would not he look for a young girl if he wishes ?

The article says "text messages". But, it could've been Line. In either case, they may have exchanged numbers/Line adds under the pretense of store business, such as waiting for something to come in stock. Then, once in, started with the stalking.
