A 91-year-old woman was found dead in her house in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, on Monday. Police said Tuesday that the cause of death was asphyxiation.
According to police, the body of Saeko Haraguchi was found on her futon at around 12:20. p.m. Monday by police and firefighters, TV Asahi reported. There were no signs of a break-in and the front door and windows were locked.
At around 11:40 p.m. that night, Haraguchi’s 59-year-old daughter and her 56-year-old son, who lived with her, were hit and killed by a train at a railroad crossing near JR Shukugawara Station, about 2 kilometers away from their home.
A suicide note was left at the scene and police believe they killed their mother.
Their mother’s body was found after an acquaintance of the daughter contacted police to say her friend had gone missing.

"91-year-old woman found dead in home; eldest daughter and son killed at nearby railroad crossing."
Another tragic story. RIP Saeko Haraguchi may you find peace with the ever Gracious Lord.

This is incredibly sad in so many ways.

Oh, this is heartbreaking all around. Who knows what desperate circumstances drove the siblings to this end. After more than five decades living together it's unlikely they killed their mother out of anger or animus. Very sad.

What strange illogical thought processes some people have.... Mum is getting hard to look after so lets kill her and then ourselves?
But hardly surprising, in their late 50s and still living "at home".

What kind of demonic forces would drive these two to murder their own mummy then commit suicide by train crash. This kind of madness seems to be prevalent and needs to be stopped.
Where were social services? I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we need far better supervision of the most vulnerable whatever the cost!
@Japan Glimpsed
No reporting suggests this was a failure of social services.
Yes, this is what 50-somethings living with elderly parents typically do.
Mr Kipling
No. Living "at home" in your 50s is not what normal people typically do.

Sorry, Mr K.
Irony.

When my FIL discovered that me and my fiancee bought a house he sold his own house and decided to live with us. So petty and yes we have to hire a caregiver and buy special lunch for him because he is diabetic.
