The home of TV host Mino Monta, who died in hospital on Saturday at the age of 80, was broken into and its basement ransacked on Sunday.
According to police, a family member called 110 at around 3:15 a.m. saying that a hooded person was outside the window of the basement of the house in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, TV Asahi reported.
When police officers arrived, they found signs that the basement had been ransacked. The figures of two suspicious people wearing hoods were also captured on nearby security cameras.
Monta's house has one basement floor and two above-ground floors.
Meanwhile, there were also signs that someone had broken into the basement entrance, police said.
According to his family and associates, Monta choked on food at a yakiniku restaurant in Tokyo on January 16 and was taken to a hospital in a state of cardiac arrest, TV Asahi reported.
He never returned home and passed away Saturday morning in the presence of his family.
Monta was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease about five years ago and had recently refrained from TV work.

How sad. Mino Monta was instrumental to me when I first arrived on these shores and was struggling to learn the language. He was a bright, loquacious bloke.

I wonder if they had an over urging desire to locate and remove something specific.

Sure was a huge TV presence. Didn't know about the yakiniku thing. Dang.

The last few times I saw him in TV he does seem to be amiss, I though that age finally caught up to him after so many years in TV, so this sickness explains that. He seems to be loved by everybody. RIP

Definitely a happy positive fellow with great energy, but yakiniku at any age is not such a great idea, especially his age. It's only family and helping the next generation that can usually keep one highly motivated in old age it seems.

Yakiniku meats will chock you if you not careful while eating it, yes age could be an issue BUT I have had problems chewing it because sometimes it has hard muscles like tissues you can't chew well.
Had similar problems with Yoshino.... meats too, hard to chew .

Agreed WL, restaurants so dangerous these days with all the cost pressures due to Yen weakness and inflation, quality of everything dropping, including yakiniku.
Buyer Beware!!

Maybe it was a piece of harami. They are not easy to chew.

When you become old and you lose your teeth that means no meat!

Yeah. The late Mr Monta didn't eat at such establishments.

Yeah, this sickness and Alzheimer’s will do it to you. Sister got choked on food, she had Alzheimer’s. At least is what the care home claims. We never will know.

Dysphagia or the inability to swallow is very common in Alzheimer patients! it is also a problem for people with Parkinson's.
@Japan Glimpsed
Look, Monta-san is not eating at Yoshinoya.

Someone was looking for something they didn’t want anyone to find.
