Japan is the same as any other country on the planet. It's got it's good points, and it has it's truly dark one's as well, and sadly far too many are blind to reality.

I dont know whether to laugh out loud or scream at the top of my lungs, in anger, at this ludicrous comment.

DOH.... if "parents" remembered this, there wouldnt be 1/10th of the abuse of children, as it is typically a parent who is the one who is the abuser!

DOH... double face palm! Useless comment! Abused children are not just the one's who are "punished" for bad behavior, as you seem to assume here. Abuse comes on so many different levels and children are NOT responsible for any of the abuse!

Only a hypocrite blames the child for their actions.

Scary because there are far less children then 20 years ago and children abuse cases are still rising.

Something wrong about priorities.

Any stats on how many could have been prevented with more proactive intervention?

How can any parent be so beastly to their own child? We’ve seen some appalling cases later, some defy belief in their depravity and are always incredibly upsetting to read about.

‘It may be controversial but I think those parents who commit serious harm, whether physical mental or sexual to a child whether it’s there’s or not, should be sterilised so they can no longer procreate.

Ghastly! Awful!! Shocking!!! Depraved!!!! Abominable!!!!!!

How many unreported cases are there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And many schools and people across the siciety were selfishly paranoid and complicit.

I would say the abuse here against children has been extraordinary over the last few years here and far exceed those numbers, judging what I witnessed.

I never got angry to the point of trying to break something. But I indeed was sometimes feeling like stopping a baby to cry whatever the means. Does not mean you are a bad parent and that you harmed your children.

Reporting any suspicion of a child abuse case should be encouraged, even though it would likely be a false alert.

Problem is justice. Remember the 99% rate conviction.

This is very sad to hear. Wonder if worsening economic conditions is contributing to the rising numbers.

Financial issues can cause people to be very stressed and do horrendous things they wouldn't usually you see. Well, some who are usually very honest will do things such as shoplifting and bunking train fares and can end up in terrible bother

Child abuse has been rising around the world for many years, and it does not fit into any socioeconomic field, it happens across the board and is done by rich and poor alike. There are different types of abuse of course but far too many to list here.

The numbers are very high and the actual numbers probably the double.

Very sad to mistreat children even if they misbehave because they are not adults and are children.

Japan is a conforming society and parents need to learn better ways to treat children than abuse.

I think child abusers are the lowest of the low you see. Those convicted of this type of heinous crime should banned from being alone with any minors including family members for life as well as being sterilized.

How they wish it were other people who are perpetrators of the abuse. But sadly, they were their own family.

The number of child abuse cases handled by child consultation centers in Japan reached an all-time high of 219,170 in fiscal 2022........................And that is the ones they know of, you can almost guarantee there are thousands more. I watched a video yesterday about pedophilia in the UK, the numbers of them they quoted were truly frightening, over 500,000+. Child abuse has been happening since the Greek and Roman times so it is not like its a new phenomenon. Is there a way to stop it? Sadly no, and it is only in the recent decades it has come into more prominent view.
