Japan's Supreme Court overturns man's acquittal for fatal 2015 hit-and-run

Oh, wow. Justice being served. Imagine that.

2015? 10 years ago? Why is justice so slooooow in Japan?

Ikeda was initially given a suspended sentence for violating a law that covers inflicting death or injury by driving a vehicle.

For a hit and run resulting in death with DUI...acquittal. Sometimes Japan's justice system simply boggles the mind.

For once, we're in agreement. I cannot BELIEVE they acquitted him because he "only stopped for a minute", seeming to not at all take into account the guy rushed there after hitting a kid to buy something to hide the smell of alcohol on his breath. Unbelievable!! The Tokyo High Court is probably full of people who drink and drive so they were sympathetic.

This system of citizen oversight of legal cases has been quite successful.

It certainly shows up the weaknesses in the Japanese legal and prosecution world.

That sucks. So they have double jeopardy in Japan. Seems like they can keep you going forever, no matter what. Japanese justice is an oxymoron.

The lower court's judge should have been relieved of all duties. What a miscarriage of justice.
