Police in Obihiro, Hokkaido, have arrested a 66-year-old man on suspicion of assaulting his wife who is in her 50s after an argument over a meal she prepared for him.

According to police, the man, who is a company executive, is accused of punching his wife in the face at their home just after 2 a.m. on Saturday, NTV reported. He then called 110 and said: "I'm having an argument with my wife. I think we need an ambulance.”

The woman was not seriously injured.

Police questioned the couple and said the trouble began when the man returned home after drinking alcohol and said he didn't like the meal his wife had prepared for him. He admitted punching her in the forehead.

Selfish mama’s boy.

I eat whatever the wife cooks, even if I have to eat the same. If not, I make my own.

Violent and cowardly loser.

I hope she divorces him and leaves him with nothing.

I'm pretty sure there are deeper issues than what she cooked that night.

I told my wife once...this meal tastes like jail food.

Didnt go down well...the meal either.

I'm glad I'm not a picky eater. Not that I would punch my wife in the face for any other reason, either.

In our house, I do most of the cooking and fortunately, my wife always likes my restaurant's standard meals.

2 am is very late for having a meal. Alcohol was the violent devil once again.

How do you know what Jail Food tastes like?

6 ( +8 / -2 )

Well, I bet she’ll add the right amount of soy sauce next time…

"How do I know what jail food tastes like ?" cause I have been in jail , silly.

Lots of reasons to VISIT jails arent there....legal capacity in my case.

Food in Japanese prisons is very bland and the minimum calories for Japanese size people, not Westerners. You will lose weight. I don't have personal experience but there are YouTubes on it.

Obviously unacceptable behavior.

One has to wonder about the mental condition of the man in question. Perhaps it is time for him to be institutionalized. My wife and I are older than they, and the idea of physical violence is unthinkable.

Deeper issues or not, there is no need for voilence.

Sit down and eat the food and thank your wife who prepared a meal for a drunk at 2.00am.

She probably prepared a meal in a way that was signaling she was unhappy and he took offense to it. Nobody fight over video games, money, shoes, food - they fight over being offended/disrespected.

If you're that drunk, you're probably not going to be able to taste the food all that well anyway. Just go to bed dummy.

I don't blame the alcohol. Blame the weak individual that drank it. I sees lots of people on the streets who can't hold their liquor; One or two OneCups and they are completely boorish buffoons. By that age he should be a pro at that but probably feels entitled due to his position at work and has always seen his wife as subservient. I eat at 2 a.m. sometimes and if there's nothing cooked that I like, either I whip up something myself or go to bed hungry.

The background story is missing, but it's dollars to doughnuts the husband wasn't getting any. Still, that doesn't excuse a violent attack on another person. He needs to accept responsibility and suffer the legal consequences of his cowardly conduct.

I went to visit an open prison in the UK and did not want to try the food (why would you?) I guess the husband in this case is being held in detention where the food is similar now…

The UK and Japanese prison food are not the same. The Japanese one is strictly on minimum calories.

She probably prepared a meal at the normal time. And, when he got home at 2am, it was no longer hot or fresh. He likely demanded she reheat it or probably wanted her to make a new meal, and she rightfully refused.

"The denshi renji is right there. And, if you don't want reheated food, make a new meal yourself. I'm going back to bed", would have been a proper response to such a demand. And then, a decent husband would apologize for waking her at 2am, and reheat it.

He should spend a stint in prison, maybe get a few "bad meals" worth of punches in the face. It'd be great if he lost his job because of it, but since he's an executive beating women is probably in the company handbook.

I like the fact that he himself called the police and had himself arrested. Meaning, he felt remorse.

What a beastly and pathetic thug.

Came home drunk at and demanded dinner at 2:00 AM......loser.
