did not accept that the actions of staff at the Higashi-Nihon Immigration Center in Ushiku, Ibaraki Prefecture, who failed to send the man to a medical institution despite his claims of ill health, caused his death.

When someone need medical attention and being ignored then that person died, is nobody fault? That happened to Cameroon detainee, that also happened to Sri Lankan detainee. That's Japan, court said nobody fault.

I suspect that human rights lawyers and activists are behind this tragedy. Cameroon man should have been deported to his home country where he could have received diabetes treatment instead of wasting his time fighting futile legal battles to get him stay in Japan and languishing in the detention center.

In 2022, the Mito District Court recognized that the immigration bureau had neglected its duty and ordered the government to pay 1.65 million yen, but it did not acknowledge a causal link between the government's fault and the man's death. The Tokyo High Court upheld the ruling in 2024.

Stupid. Of course their neglect caused his death. Someone should get fired for this, but I'm not holding my breath.

At any point he could have returned to Cameroon and avoided this situation. The 1.65 million should go towards the costs of keeping him in detention.

MORE then TEN YEARS this took. Japanese “Justice”.

Of course no one was FIRED or even reprimanded.

What did they offer before?; ¥10,000 ?

Your life is worth $16,000 US, as a Cameroonian, I wonder what the REST

of us are worth.

That's right..

Come legally to Japan..

Japan is not for opportunistic people..

In one sense it is good to see that Japan is growing up. But the amount of damages will probably minimal (in other words not what a Japanese national would get if the situation was reversed). The fact that Detention Center staff have been exhonerated is particularly bad judgement.

Or, hot take, give him a visa and let him continue to live with dignity, work and pay for his health insurance so that he can receive care when he needs it.

Japan is adept at keeping immigrants at bay.

Japan needs workers but only those granted leave can remain.

The message is clear…
