Police in Mishima City, Shizuoka Prefecture, have arrested two boys, aged 16 and 15, on suspicion of throwing raw eggs at a koban (police box) in Kannami town.
Police said the two boys, who both live in Mishima, are accused of throwing raw eggs at the police box at around 8 p.m. on Thursday, TV Asahi reported.
At the time, a police officer heard the sound of something hitting the wall of the police box and went out to investigate. He found several raw eggs had been thrown.
The two boys were identified after an analysis of surveillance camera footage outside the police box, and arrested on Friday.
Police said the two boys, who have admitted throwing the eggs, are also being questioned about a similar incident on Wednesday night. In that incident, raw eggs were thrown at another police box and a patrol car parked outside it in another area of Mishima.

Considering all the food prices rising, the last thing anyone should be doing is wasting perfectly good eggs.

Sounds like something I might have done as a boy - they might also have ADHD and be bored/ frustrated. (not an excuse, just a possible explanation).

They are so sensitive. Their friends must all be walking on shells around them.

Someone has eggs to throw at a window? Here in the USA eggs are sold out or if you actually find them are priced through the roof.

with the price of eggs, you know japan is still a rich nation when kids can egg a cop shop

Ok, maybe both boys, 16 and 15, with the agreement of there parents, be provided a bucket and sponge clean every koban (police box) within a kilometre of the box they both found time throwing eggs at.
The matter can be put down to youthful exuberance?

That's not unreasonable to consider. If you are bored, there is nothing to do, looking for stimulation. It is possible.
I think it is also one of the reasons why school clubs are important. ( while some others deride them as too much). They are important.
However, they can A) keep kids off the streets, B) occupy their time.C) make friends, and D) have peers around them who are hopefully good role models. E) Boys can burn off their energy. F) Have adult supervision, G) learn something. It is sad to say that in the U.K., where kids have an obesity problem, they cut school clubs and social clubs that kept kids off the streets and occupied their time, and now more kids go around with knives, killing other kids, or go around shoplifting knowing the cops won't/can't do anything. As a kid, we all did stupid things. I'm just glad it's eggs. I remember doing stupid things.
Bucket, Water, Sponge, and cleaning duty are sufficient to teach them a lesson ( kids hate me for making them do that). Our cops were awesome with our kids. I cannot fault them for that! They had the time to sit down and chat and even give them time. Some kids may be 18 for simple legal reasons, but they aren't 18-year-old brains.

Future leaders according to some...or future Yaks according to me.
Eggs today ...who knows what tomorrow...sarin ?

The comments above seem to focus on the price of eggs and assume that the boys’ actions were simply due to boredom. However, could there be a deeper reason behind their behavior? The article only shares the police's perspective. To get a clearer understanding, we should consider the possibility that the boys might have had a grievance against the local police. It would be helpful to hear both sides of the story—why did they feel compelled to throw eggs at the police box?

Eggs are cheap here. 10 for 198 yen at hanamasa just now. Instead of arresting them have them work it off and clean. So much drama with police anymore. If they just treat them like the children they are. How about wash it all off. Then garden the area. And then pickup trash in the area for 4 weekends. Should do the trick. Oh and the mother and father can be right beside them as clearly they need some parenting advise.

Wrong that they are I would happily pay their fine.

Did my fair share of this kind of thing as a lad and yes, it was out of boredom and frustration. I sincerely hope that they aren't put through the custodial system, where they will rub shoulders with real criminals and will most likely end up as life long felons. Yes, they need to be punished but be honest, who didn't read this with a smile on their face?

Did this back when I was 13 to an ars hole property manager that evicted my mom and I from our apartment for absolutely no reason and lended the room to his family members afterwards. We were long time residents too, and he was sneaky trying to give us a short notice when thankfully my mom had a realtor's license and understood the law so we were able to get some compensation. My friends and I had the last laugh.

Community Service penalty. Serve food at homeless shelter and clean up egg mess off the koban.
Maybe also they should conduct "ride along" program to learn about duties of the police. I don't know if that is option in Japan, but common program in US where people can sign up to ride with police for a few hours and see their job. Also, possible to visit jail and see what their life will be like if they proceed to commit more crimes. We call it "scared straight".

No surprises there whatsoever. If you've ever been to Kannami Town you'll know why kids are bored enough to do something like this that was guaranteed to get them caught right away.
Nothing to do there tho the town of Mishima itself near the station is a nice old place. A dude who worked in Kannami at an English school there used to go jogging at tnight and was reported by the locals to the police. For jogging while foreign at night. Not so long ago. The kind of place I never worked at in Japan and never will even if there were the business jobs I do there. Which there will be never be.

The quality of parenting has become so poor over the past thirty years, not particularly surprised.
Parents probably glued to their phones, gaming,or ,in their defence, busy working at dead-end baito jobs trying to keep up with the cost of living.

You might want to read the book Behave: The Biology of Humans at Our Best and Worst or Determined by neuroscientist Robert Sapolsky to learn about the causes of human behaviour - hint: neurodiversity likeADHD is one of them.

Slow news day? A story like this wouldn't make a small town newspaper in most countries.

This is local news—Japan Today often sources its stories from local outlets.
JT doesn’t cover all crime reports, often missing major incidents, let alone smaller local ones. In fact, many crimes in Japan never even make it to the media.
This story isn’t a meaningful gauge of crime levels, so I wouldn’t read too much into it.

Now, this was an educational experience for the two boys, and now they know that there are cameras around the koban. They will be more careful if there is a next time. Perhaps target practice from longer distances.

Just teens having a bit of fun. Their punishment. Smash some eggs on their face and head. They will soon learn it is not so funny when they are on the receiving end of things.
