The USA does produce some of the finest comic minds.

We will see this in action if Trump becomes POTUS.

A big fan of him. I have always preferred old school comedians. RIP Bob Newhart.

I remember him, he was funny.

Enjoyed his work over the past few decades, including guest spots on the big bang theory. I imagine him now perpetually dressed as a jedi and living on in Sheldons dreams, much to his chagrin.

Bye Bob. RIP.

His routine with Abraham Lincoln was so very funny I had to listen to it 3 times to get the whole the whole thing because I was laughing so hard at it. When you consider his personality and delivery, you have to admire an American original. Some call him a genius, but he really was a genius genius.

If you have never heard his routine about Introducing Tobacco to Europe, do yourself a favour. It's still hilarious 60 years later (a lot of his comedy hasn't dated and is recommended)

t did -- he was signed to Warner Bros. Records, and "The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart" became the music industry's first comedy album to hit the top of the sales charts.

It earned him prestigious Grammys for Best New Artist and Best Album, and helped launch his career in television. The recording is now archived in the Library of Congress.

FTR, it held the Guinness World Record for the number of weeks on top of the Billboard Top 200 album charts until 1983 when 'Business as Usual' by the Australian band Men at Work beat that record. Nobody has capped that achievement since.

Newhart starred in two long-running sitcoms in the 1970s and 1980s, and made guest star appearances into his 90s.

The series finale of the 80s series was genius. Getting knocked in the noggin by that golf ball and waking up in bed. There also that nerdy Kirk who obsessed over that cute receptionist Julie Duffy. There was one episode where Kirk had an autographed item from George Harrison and Bob asked, 'How'd you get this?!'. Kirk replied, 'I kept bothering him for it, wouldn't leave him alone until he gave it to me!'.

Remember there was 'Larry, Daryl and my other brother Daryl'?

BION, when I saw Joan Jett and the Blackhearts for the first (of three) times, it was at the Zucchini Fest at Obetz in 2012. I met three young girls there who introduced themselves as 'Linda, Carol and my other friend Carol'. LOL

I first visited the beautiful state of Vermont in 1997, taking a side tour from a vacation in Montreal. The theme song from that 80s Newhart show came to my mind when I drove there, even though I just saw Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains.

And of course, as a little boy I remember the 70s show too. The episode closing credits were on and the theme played, ending with two trumpet blasts. Then this 'entertainment company logo' came on with a cat meowing (no, it was not MGM, either).

Bob, your fame spans generations and we love you. RIP dude.
