Ok, as much as I hate to admit, once or twice I was this drunk before.
Was he ARRESTED? Did the neighbor freak out ?, it doesn’t SEEM so, THEN it would be warranted.
It all depends on the Neighbor and was he threatening or just stumbled in and used to toilet? …crime of the century.
Remember, you’re in JAPAN
Fighto!
Must be quite a low bar!
I think he should stick to the low and zero alcohol beers in future.

How Funny,
"We have decided to terminate our contract" with Yoshizawa, Asahi Group Holdings spokesperson Shiori Shimizu told AFP Tuesday."'
So here we have an alcohol beverages maker who is in the business of making and promoting drunkenness and alcohol consumption firing someone for getting drunk,
is this suppose to be a joke or what???
WA4TKG
Yes, seems a tad hypocritical, don’t it?

Interesting no-lock apartments or trusting neighbors.
Every time I’ve attempted to enter a neighbor’s apartment to use the bathroom (I don’t remember why, actually, I was drunk), the door’s been locked.

Without being drunk, it happened to me to try to open the flat below mine when the elevator accidentally stopped to that floor. Would the door have been opened, I might have done one or two steps inside. As appartements in my condominium have the same layout, imagine being completely drunk
Hawk
They fired him for getting drunk and breaking into his neighbor's home, which, blasted or not, is a crime.

There is more to this story. What are we not being told?

Sounds like a lot of free advertising! "Drink our beer, have a great time!"

Just a few stories down on JT....

This is almost an Onion headline.

That was wise.

That is the thing, the company is not promoting drunkenness, at least not openly, and base a lot of their PR about people drinking responsibly. Anything that jeopardizes this stance is going to get the ax, this being a very clear example.

What's even more peculiar is that the neighbor's front door wasn't locked. With all the news about forcible entry, robberies and even murders, you'd think people would at least lock their doors.

Breaking into?
Sounds like he just walked through an unlocked door to accidentally enter the wrong apartment. The sort of thing that happens somewhere in Japan probably almost every night.
"Breaking into" -- well, I guess the media have this insatiable need to overinflate and sensationalize things.

Gets fired from beer company after using said product being promoted.
You can't write comedy like that.

Drunken Bum.
Hawk
It wasn't just for 'using said product' though, was it? It was for using it, and then illegally (albeit accidentally) entering someone else's apartment. By your logic, if he had gotten drunk, gotten into his car and killed someone, the company shouldn't fire him?
As for the door being unlocked, generally, I'd advise anyone to lock their door. However, perhaps this was a more expensive, exclusive apartment building with extra security regarding entry, so the occupants were a bit more blase about their own front doors. Or maybe the occupant just forgot. Who knows?
You're right, not exactly B and E. More like trespassing. And I'm sure it does happen regularly, but hopefully not by representatives of major breweries though.

“Remember, you’re in JAPAN”
Oh come on, as if it would be okay in any other country and Japan doesn’t have its own share of drunks.
Futaro Gamagori
Yes, it was a mistake but it's not like he went inside a random house
You can make sense of how this can happen
I used to live in a mansion and i would say this happened to me at least 2-3 times
Got off the wrong floor and unfortunately, the door was unlocked
I think some families with kids unlock their doors in the afternoon as they expect their kids to be coming home
The_Beagle
How hawt is his neighbour for him to make this Freudian trespass?

Shudder.... Rather not be "handsome" at all and drink a real beer than some swill like this! Hate to say this but Japanese breweries are lowering themselves to the level of the "mass-produced" garbage beverages, the "so-called" beers like Bud, Lite, and others.
3.5%? Better to drink plain water!
BeerDeliveryGuy
Most condos and especially those that celebrities live in have electronic locks on the lobby entrance and a security guard who monitors who enters.
When I lived in a condo that had a 4 digit number lock on the lobby doors, I rarely locked my front door, much less if I was home.
spektral
How did he "break in”?If it was forceful and he damaged something then I understand him being penalized, but if the door was open and he just mistook it then an apology should suffice. I have mistaken apartment doors myself before even while sober...gladly they were properly locked and my key did not open them so I was unable to go in, then and there me realizing my mistake...

A proper explanation of the above would help readers to understand what actually happened.

"Like other countries, drinking has been declining in Japan"
Ummm... not if you check out any stations around enkai seasons. I saw no less than three people vomiting all over the street this past weekend alone... all within a five-minute period. Incidents involving drunkness may be declining, but I don't think drinking is, especially with how proud of itself Japan is with its sake lately.
As for the "national treasure-class handsomeness" thing... I guess it's another example of UNESCO turning them down so they just label it a national thing, because I don't get it. Guy looks like a wax figure with itchy eyes. But to each their own.

Oh Japan the land where all things are replicated the same for everyone.
For a flat, it means for any storey in a building : same colors, same paths, same common space layout, same mechanisms, same level of cleanliness, same lighting, same doors, same flat layout, same smell (usually no smell), same toilet, etc...
I know that well since I lived in such type of building, except I was on first (ground) floor ;)
Article does not mention any violence.
I assume he did just made an unvoluntary error...
As comments show, let he who has never sinned cast the first stone.
In modern words, this is utter hypocritical from this beer company to take such step against that actor.
In any other western country, a lawyer would sue that company and win on the spot.
Shirokuma4812
Don’t American military do this quite often? But the outcome seems very different.
Neurozoo
Every few years, exact same situation but they get put on restriction and possibly lose rank and pay
Anyway, most woman would not mind if this guy walked up into their room.
iron man
Surely the legal and social test should be how he got home. Did he drive, 1% drinks are marketed to drivers, I have never done it in asia. but after a winter training session followed by a few beers I walked head first into a neighboring apartment door, woke up with their daughter making me a cup of tea. It all depends on the neighborhood?
@Japan Glimpsed
Not according to Japanese reporting. However, police have referred the case to prosecutors.
Exactly. Japanese media do not refer to a break-in. 無断で侵入 is the expression used .
@Japan Glimpsed
Yes. Reviewing Japanese media, there's really no difference in the two cases.

Yet at Daiso and at grocery stores, 'children's beverages' in amber and rose shades are sold in bottles the shape of beer bottles, seemingly designed to allow children to pretend they are drinking along with adults. Like the old candy cigarettes, these seemingly innocent beverages are designed to whet children's appetites for habit forming substances that are best left alone. Low alcohol drinks are just things to prime the pump for higher alcohol substances.

Well if he's the top most handsome man, I am still in with a chance then! If any one from asashi brewery is reading this I am up for a contract!
