Trump pushes for plastic straws as he declares paper ones 'don’t work'

Yeah, because that's what the world needs: more plastic!

What a complete and utter buffoon.

I know that plastic is bad for the environment but I must say I do hate paper straws. They stick to your lips, and become soggy, but why not try the new biodegradable plastic straws that Starbucks is going to use!

Also what the hell is Trump talking about paper straws exploding? The man is an idiot!

I know that plastic is bad for the environment but I must say I do hate paper straws.

This might be a little controversial, but there is always the choice of... not using a straw at all.

I never need a straw to drink, but then again, I'm not 3 years old.

Yes, there are other alternatives to paper or plastic straws, but those are not really cost effective.

The biodegradable ones are very good, albeit they cost at least twice as much as the standard ones.

Those straws are only a insignificant part of the issues. More countries, including USA, India, China, Pakistan, etc and the rest of the biggest polutters, should start to implement on a country side scale plastic recycle entry and give substantial fees to those who polite the rivets, lakes or seas.

Why fascist clowns hate science, arts and education??..

Trump: "The liberal scare tactics around the use of asbestos in buildings is nonsense. I am going to bring back its use in every state and federal building. Make Asbestos Great Again!"

MAGA (jumps in the pickup truck and drives down to the nearest hardware store, points shotgun at clerk, and says "gimme all the asbestos you have!")

I once volunteered to clean the banks of the Arakawa river, and plastic straws were right up there with PET bottles at the top of the trash heap. If you don't like paper straws just drink without a straw like an adult.

Plastic straws aren't good but the article neglects to mention that harmful chemicals were also found in paper straws.

Is he still working for Mcdonald? That make sense.....

5 ( +5 / -0 )

With all the chaos he's making in the world he is focused on plastic straws, really????

9 ( +10 / -1 )

Is the US great again yet?

9 ( +10 / -1 )

He has not pushed, he has banned paper straws. Plastic is back.

I never need a straw to drink, but then again, I'm not 3 years old.

You're not a woman either, as they wear a lot of lipstick and need to use a straw to drink so it doesn't get all over the cup.

-3 ( +2 / -5 )

Hang on lady uses a lot of face toys and needs a straw to protect the cup, or ths lips. does a plastic straw protect the face toys better than a 'paper' straw. Let us hear from the ladies. Does Orange face use lip balm?

CS, a lot of lipst, or always. The ladies I know use th sticks to eat, wipe the face off, and get their emergency supply out, c/w with essential convex mirror. Anybody who does not sincerely believe that plastic is BAD?

I'm no economist, but Trump's showboating, championing plastics, suggests there must be more money to suck up from plastic straws than from paper ones. When is this guy going to get serious?

Don...threaten tariffs on straw makers....then call them "straw men "....

Don...threaten tariffs on straw makers....then call them "straw men "....

Don did not do anything of the kind. He is reversing a federal policy he correctly says is stupid. How about reading before writing?

did I read India and Pakistan here, please check your sources before positing wild statements , Japan emissions are much more then India and Pakistan , and also we can all here criticize USA , fair enough, but we all need to look at our backyard where oranges are wrapped in multiple layers of plastics it self

Go, Trump!

If people don’t like it, then they should do what we do here in Japan. Pay three yen per straw just as we pay three yen for one plastic shopping bag.

Yeah, because that's what the world needs: more plastic!

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2023/08/28/paper-straws-worse-than-plastic-pfas-study/70702090007/

A new study, published Thursday in the journal Food Additives and Contaminants, found evidence of “forever chemical” PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in the majority of both paper and bamboo straws tested.

Scientists in Belgium tested 39 brands of straws made of paper, bamboo, plastic and stainless steel found in shops, supermarkets and restaurants across the country.

Of the straws tested, almost all contained some concertation of PFAS, which are often used during manufacturing to make products water resistant. Out of the total 39 tested, the chemicals were detected in 27, none of which were stainless steel.

What a complete and utter buffoon.

Naw, he's right, the buffoons are the ones buying into this crap.

This might be a little controversial, but there is always the choice of... not using a straw at all.

Or, you could just use a plastic straw.

That's pretty judgy. I use a straw due to extreme sensitivity to cold drinks.

Trump may be trying to destroy America but he is right about this.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Drinks imbibed the natural way from a glass or paper taste better than from namby-pamby plastic/paper straws. Small-minded Trump loves a storm in a teacup, not so much the whirlwinds he's going to reap when reality hits his ridiculous second-term dog and pony show.
