Is there any item with 'older' technology you still use because you are not interested in the modern version?

Anything that doesn't use subscription based or cloud, many things are simple you just buy it and use it until break. Even when it's break it still can be fixed and used.

I still use a flip phone. I don’t want to be carrying a little addictive screen with me when I’m out wandering around the real world.

Still use a G4 PowerBook and a G5 iMac both running OS X 10.6. To be honest, they are both rather slow regarding the internet, but the iMac is primarily used as a server for streaming to network player. Works perfectly fine in that regard. Kept them working by taking apart, adding RAM or a new hard-drive.

Other than that, I still have several record players, connected to a couple of tube amps. I got rid of a “HD, 5.1/7.1 all bells and whistles AV” player in favour of analogue. As Sakurasuki says, things can be fixed. And the “older” tech seems much easier to fix.

Still use my mp3 player for running and exercise, complete with earphones that have wires. Hate wireless earbuds. If they pop out, I have to break stride to put them back in. Also, I'm not going to pay to stream music I already own and do not want my phone with me while I am exercising. The whole point of running is to get away from people.

Still have a DVD / Blu Ray player. Streaming is fine, but lacks the extra features, deleted scenes, commentary track, etc that used to come with DVDs.

I have a 4G JP flip phone, replacing the 3G one that got bricked. I also use a feature phone, but I default to the land line (which will soon be turned off by BT to save them a few quid).

Like sakurasuki I don't use subscription software or cloud storage. LibreOffice is fine. I prefer a PC with a proper full travel keyboard to a laptop. I wear the same style of on ear headphones I wore in the 80s instead of in ear ones and use a personal stereo-style FM radio rather than DAB or internet radio.

I watch broadcast TV and have no streaming subscriptions. I still buy magazines and paper books. My music comes on CDs and I watch DVDs. My clock radio is a red LED mains one that I can actually see in the dark.

I still use stamps rather than sticky labels and send paper invoices whenever a digital one is not demanded. Digital invoices go amiss rather more often than paper ones. I also send birthday and Christmas cards, and postcards.

My £5 digital watch tells the time and is not in any way USB or Bluetooth compatible. The battery in it will probably outlive me.

All of my technology and devices are of this century. There are many I do not use or no longer have the equipment needed. VHS video player, CDs, DVDs, I have an IP phone but only for family emergencies. I have no use for dumbphones or flip phones. I use the Cloud with free storage of 200GB but important documents are kept on my computers.

We buy a daily newspaper.

About CDs and DVDs one indirect benefit of the rise of streaming is that its made them much cheaper, at least for second hand stuff that people have decided they don’t need anymore.

One of my pleasures in life is going through the massive “junk” section of my local Book Off where they have tons of CDs and DVDs for 100 to 200 Yen each. I’ve built up a pretty good music and movie library that I can watch anytime I want and which I know won’t suddenly disappear like stuff on streaming subscriptions does.

It used to be the same with old video games, but in recent years a collectors market has developed for those so they aren’t the bargain they were a decade ago. But there isn’t as much of a collector market for CDs and DVDs so prices on those are quite low.

The downside is the need to go to the store once a month to see what new stuff they’ve thrown in there but for me the hunt is part of the fun so it actually makes me like it more.

My watches are all analog except for the two I use for sport which are digital. My mountain bike is a fully pedal-powered, cabled hardtail with not a battery or electronic motor in sight. If I wanted all of that, I'd by a motorcycle.

If I want to play a game it's on a board or outside. Puzzles are putting little bits of cardboard together to make a picture, or matching colours up on a cube.

I still wear a very retro Casio Databank wrist watch. Although it has only 50 entries for names, phone numbers, schedules, secret data, a calculator, world time, stopwatch, timer, etc, but before anyone takes a smartphone or credit card or MyNumber card out of the bag, I have already most of those data or numbers on display. lol

Ive got some 1980s Pioneer floorstanding tower speakers.

I built a deck, some deck steps, and a balcony, about 25 square meters in total, with a Japanese handsaw, specifically a 600 yen Z saw, and saw guide, not some fancy pants electric one most DIY "experts" say is essential. I just used a drill driver and don't have an impact driver, another tool I see as completely unnecessary.

Pen and paper, a recordplayer, DVD en dvd player, books, a physical agenda, and my own brain.

A few things:

I still will read physical books rather than using Kindle or iPads for books. I stil love the nostalgia of the smell of a new book and turing the pages. It's better for the eyes and goal settings.

I don't buy subscriptions. I just use the trial subscriptions. If I have to buy a subscription to learn something, I'll just go on YouTube.

I don't use online delivery services. I'd rather do things myself.

I feel much better about organizing plans by pencil and paper, rather than iPads. My minds works better because I feel more in control and I can always go over previous revisions to recycle other ideas.

The biggest one is not using electronic pay apps. I want to have control with my spending habits and using electronic pay can be addicting, thus losing control.

i fax my comments for here. i still have some appliances that don’t beep all the time, like open and close a door without beeping every time. some don’t even beep when pushing a button.

the air is filled with a relentless cacophony of beeping in most homes.

Wikipedia??!!! LOL AI sources include Wikipedia which itself is politically biased. But then again, I'd knew you'd use it.

Wikipedia moderates out those who peddle falsehoods. Bugspray for the apologist.

Clothes in general. Don't need to throw out perfectly useable clothes to go buy new ones every year.

I like cameras/photography, and generally (although I use digital, which is by definition more complex than film) the simpler the better. Give me a rangefinder and one lens and I'm good to go without the dozens of bells and whistles that the modern cameras have. I mean, it's basically just a lightproof box. It doesn't have to be a supercomputer.

I bought Microsoft Office 2008 during my grad school days for a nice cheap price and don't ever want to lose it in favor of some subscription-based nonsense. I'm actually holding off on updating my Mac past OS 10.11 just because I like using the Word and Excel I paid for.

I don't know if it qualifies as "older technology", but MT car. Not in Japan, but whenever I go back to Europe I love to drive my parents' MT car, or rentals.

And books, of course. Not too much time unfortunately

A toothbrush. Having to charge a toothbrush just feels like one step too far in absurdity.
