How do you think Donald Trump's election as U.S. president will affect U.S.-Japan relations?

Assuming Trump doesn't encourage China to attack Taiwan, probably not too much.

I was surprised last time how many Japanese didn't seem to mind Trump, and some who actually liked him. Most didnt like the Trump tariffs but admired his tough stance on China.

nothing will change,japanese will stay US puppet in region and USA will continue to use japanese territory fot its army and own interests in the region.

maybe someone sane will talk him out of the tariffs, but i doubt it.

tariffs don’t make companies repatriate. too much investment, too much time to get it operating, lost skillsets and costs would be even higher than paying the tariffs. all you get is inflation.

it didn’t happen when he did it before with the 25% on china tariff. manufacturing jobs were lost and manufacturing declined.

well, i guess if you make 500%+ you might get a few companies.

either way, inflation will skyrocket.

look around your house and count up all the things made overseas, especially china. tires, car parts, appliances, furniture, clothes, everything in your kitchen, tv’s and electronics, tools, building supplies as infinitum.
