Logistically, China is 10x the population and 4x the gdp of Japan. Psychologically, China is a threat to everybody due to CCP insecurity.

Obviously China could destroy Japan militarily but in reality there is no threat except in the minds of those wanting Japan to buy US weapons.

It just an illusion from time to time Japanese more need to worry about US service member DUI or sexual assault. Just check the news it does happen again, this year.

Take away all that the US has said and all the US has required BE said by others and the risk shrinks very fast.

US needs enemies to keep it Military Industrial Complex growing.

The 200 or so entities, The TransNational Capital Class, need arms sales as an investment to grown their wealth.

Most rational Asian countries will life with China and those far away, Latin America, for example , will do business with China.

Meanwhile America jumps at shadows.

Zero as long as Japan understands that Japanese rule over Taiwan ended in 1945.

Only took two posts for the usual mob to start blaming the US. Yawn.

Regardless, China is a clear military threat to Japan. Anyone denying this likely knows little about regional geopolitics, or -- far more likely on JT -- is just here to push the CCP line.

The Japanese government has spelled out the situation in the Defense of Japan white paper. Anyone who wants to learn the truth (that is, not the pro-PRC mob) should read it. Here's a sample:

China’s current external stance, military activities, and other activities have become a matter of serious concern for Japan and the international community, and present an unprecedented and the greatest strategic challenge in ensuring the peace and security of Japan and the peace and stability of the international community, as well as in strengthening the international order based on the rule of law, to which Japan should respond with its comprehensive national power including its defense capabilities and in cooperation and collaboration with its ally, like-minded countries, and others.

It's clearly "non-zero," per the Japanese government's official assessment.

And Japan certainly does understand that its rule over Taiwan ended.

Sadly, the PRC doesn't understand that PRC rule over Taiwan has never once existed. And that's what causes many of the region's problems.

It's not realistic for China to attack and try to colonize Japan. The amount of resources China will need to maintain control over Japan's geography is enormous.

The best way for China, is to keep buying lands in Japan, keep sending its people here, when the ratio between immigration/local population reaches some threshold number (20% or something), it will be much easier to take over the country. First, through local elections for example (which many political parties are suggesting), then national elections.

I'd say China is the top threat for Japan, next to North Korea and Russia. While China doesn't escalate its provocations to the point of doing a special military operation in Hokkaido, it does have the financial and technological capacity to make life hard for Japan. They can harass Japanese territory nearly on a regular basis, eroding a sense of alertness and escalate things without warning. China is also known to weaponize its civilian sector for military purposes, and that's hard to fight.

Came here to say this. Never understood the perceptive of Chine taking military action against Japan through force to acquire land when they can just buy it up from us. It would be very mendokusai for China to think about going to war with Japan, all for what? To acquire an earthquake prone land with very little beneficial resources for China. They already have our water land and are also taking our crabs so no need to go to war with us.

Nobody said anything about colonizing Japan. They are a threat because many in the CCP carry grudges and seek to dominate Japan. If you don't understand how they think, you make the assumption that they think like you.

Call us when the troops are mobilized. 2/3 are covered by NATO article 5.

While the U.S.A. blusters, bullies and encircles China with its bases, China mostly ignores the U.S.A. and carries on trading, raking in the profits, laughing all the way to the bank!

Tai: China is not Asia enemy The USA is. Taiwan will not get invaded by China they will end up seceding back into China proper. without a shoot fired.Taiwan is solely dependent on export trade, It water supply is open to attack from the mainland. It relies on coal and natural gas for 85% of it electicty from the BRICS and Australia who is heavily dependent on trade with China. China just have to blockade Taiwan for a month and they will give up. And they can blockade by a request to BRICS and strong words to Australia without even putting a ship in the water. Don't assume the USA is going to come and help out Taiwan who record of defeats over 2 decades and recently the Houties. Look at Ukraine. The writing on the wall with help from USA tariff war. Mate seriously you really have not research Taiwan weaknesses.

Unless Japan were stupid enough to get involved in Taiwan, what other reason would China have to attack Japan? Takeover of expensive rice fields and the anime industry?

So long as America occupies tens of thousands of troops in Japan, the proper question is not whether China poses a military threat to Japan, but whether China poses a military threat to America and to American hegemony.

China may have a historical axe to grind with Japan, but the political present is that China and America are facing a clash over which will exert more influence in East Asia and other parts of the globe. Should this conflict escalate to military action, Japan will find itself a target by virtue of having the American military bases most proximate to China.

I see the pathetic attempts to deflect from China's aggression by blaming the US for everything (despite the US not being mentioned in the article) continue.

You guys really need to get some new material. The old stuff is pretty stale now...
