Once again, the media can't help but report this with at least a little mention of the 'lukewarm enthusiasm'. They just can't help themselves. It is a great place and it is going to continue getting great numbers.
Asiaman7
Yes and no.
About 765,000 of that 5 million total are visitors admitted with accreditation passes (staff, sponsors, media, etc.). [As of Monday, 26 May]

My wife and I went a couple weeks ago. It was crowded, everything expensive, and we really enjoyed it.
Jerry
They’re counting all the employees as “visitors”???
James Dean Jr.
True, but “lukewarm enthusiasm” wasn’t media invention — it reflected real polling data before the Expo opened. Reporting both the early doubts and the current success isn’t negativity; it’s context. If anything, it highlights how well the event is actually performing.

Wasn’t it 28 million a few weeks ago? Has it been revised?

The only place in Japan I would rather avoid than this mess is a Japanese zoo.

My wifes friend was invited to help out at the Palestinian site.
There were planned some cultural events including dancing.
These were cancelled in respect to the Palestinian Doctor who lost 9 of her 10 children in an Israeli bombing raid on her house.

I was fortunate enough to attend the '70 Expo in Osaka.
Lots of competing pavilions. U.S. pavilion had a moon rock and Babe Ruth's uniform. Long, long lines but quite successful. Focus on technology.
That was also my first "Bullet Train" ride.

Eugene - your point being?
Eugene
It was the cold war so nations were trying to show their prowess. Lots of "new" technology.
So, grc, what's your problem?
Aaron Wright
Nice story, but what’s the relevance?
koiwaicoffee
Eugene's post was far more relevant than Aaron's and Gr's, who were harsh for no reason. Myself I found it amusing that he may have been in Japan for that long.

Osaka Expo. In 1970 it was a really big deal. Everybody wanted to go.
I don't know what the big draw is supposed to be for this Expo except for the big wooden building. I haven't seen any real hype for it.
Asiaman7
If 28 million is the target, they’re 1.3 million short over the first six weeks.
They need 150,000/day, and that was achieved only once over the past week — amid complaints of excessive crowding, swarms of mosquito-like insects, and potential methane gas explosions.
Of course, the Expo could hire more workers to pump up the numbers …

I don't understand why posters actually have to have a point. Can't they share an experience they've had related to the topic at hand without being attacked?
dan
Waste of time and money !
Avoiding it like the plague .

I am going to EXPO 2025 in my summer vacation with my family, but it has some of worry things. For example, recently, there are thousand of pest. Also, gas is building up under the Yumeshima.
If these problems are not to solve until summer, I worry about can we go there safety...
Another problem is it may not achieve its sales targets. Japanese Government are planning about 23 million tickets are sold, but now, it is half of them.
How the government to sale more tickets?

Enjoyed the world expo in Spokane, Washington in 1974. Would love to go to Osaka.
The expo in Spokane attracted only 5 million visitors throughout the whole of its duration. Spokane is the smallest city to ever hold such an event. The focus that time was on the environment.

I’ll be there again for the second time today.
There’ll be a 3rd time too in September.
It’s an interesting event.

No, jerry, I didn’t expect anything to be cheap there. Did I somehow imply that I was surprised?
Negative Nancy
A lot of people don't buy tickets far in advance, they simply decide they will go a day or so ahead of time. On our second visit we didn't decide to go until the night before.
How do you know without visiting it? The current kuchikomi is very positive. Everyone I've spoken to that had visited said they enjoyed it, and the majority said they would visit again.
Don't listen to the eejits. Its brilliant to hear of your experience Eugene.

I still have an Expo '70 one hundred yen coin, I am wondering if they minted a special coin for this Expo.
If they did It would be nice if I could get the pair.
Does anybody know?
Negative Nancy
Yes, they do! Lovely idea.
