I see on tv airports packed with countless Japanese people going overseas. However, whenever I ask hundreds of people that I know if they went overseas for GW, very rarey does anyone say they did. Who are they ?

No Japanese going to tell the deeper truth because of onmae/tatemae : it was packed all the time everywhere like in the Tokyo subway ans the only difference was that they did not need to wear a suit.
