“We must remind ourselves of the basics that politics is for the people, as we tackle political and party reforms," Ishiba said. He said that in response to the poor election results, "We must be able to have empathy for the pain, sorrow and anger of the people.”

Internationally seems to be the case, because you have a neolib consensus only interested in financialzation of the economy and huge gains to large asset holders

Change will not come from this establishment or a populist movement blaming immigrants.

The fault is with the LDP

@Mr Kipling exactly,

Let's see how long the cabinet can hold, the last one was really short lived, election gamble not working in their favor somehow.

How about actually doing something about it.

“While we stick to the LDP-Komei partnership as the foundation, we will do our utmost to gain understanding of as many other parties as possible as we humbly work to ensure safety and security of the people,” Ishiba said.

Blah Blah.... cut and paste. repeat and rinse.

A cynic might say that the women in the photograph are wearing white clothes because it ensures they stand out, thus allowing the LDP to show how progressive they are. "Look! We have women in our cabinet! Two, in fact!"

I vow reforms by hiring the same people who were investigated for scandals last time!

Ishiba will struggle in the coming months to gain consent from the opposition on policies including the budget and other legislation, experts say. Ishiba said he will listen to opposition parties more carefully than before.

I don't think Ishiba is too worried about that. As I've said many times, Ishiba is a different type. His main opponents are within his own party—the right-wing followers of Abe. His allies within the party are a very small minority. By comparison, the opposition parties like Noda's CDP and Tamaki's DPP are actually closer to him due to the liberal leanings of his beliefs. I think he welcomes this situation.

To be completely fair his actions and decisions have done a lot to debilitate his own party, indirectly facilitating reform. That the opposition is not likely to take advantage of this opportunity is of course another thing.

LDP slush funds have even suspicion that they exploited illegal purpose such as bribery or disinformation. But, LDP plot contributing same amount to obscure it.

Aso's face when he spotted Ishiba sleeping is priceless.

He's such a hypocrite. The number of times he has been caught with Abe snoozing in parliament is uncountable
