If China contiues to sail within 12 miles of Senkaku Islands, everyone will see China's commitment to this latest declaration of promoting peace is simply a sham. It will only take a day to show up their lies.
If China can not keep its word, it will never be trusted by anyone on any issue. Back up your promises with actions.
Mr Kipling
That's great but unfortunately Japan and South Korea do not have independent foreign policies. They have to check with their master first.
voiceofokinawa
I hope that the U.S. will nor meddle in and jeopardise the whole peace process.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Because these countries have gotten along so well before?
BigP
But that means China must keep its word. Remember Hong Kong? Just one of many broken promises.
isabelle
China was lying, as usual.
I do wonder sometimes if people like Wang actually believe all the lies they constantly spout, or whether they're just so deep in the system that they "have to" carry on the charade, lest they end up like all those other "disappeared" CCP officials.
I tend to think the latter, but either way it's a terrible state of affairs for both the Chinese people and the wider world.
isabelle
Only took two posts for the pro-CCP crowd to blame the US...

Wonderful news and the next step forward for three ancient and culturally connected East Asian nations. The potential synergies of these three economies and peoples is remarkable.

None of the 3 trusts the other 2. For Japan and South Korea it’s a show of weakness which Washington will not appreciate.
DanteKH
Trusting the words of the Chinese is like trusting the words of Russians or United States Americans. Meaning ZERO value.
Just look how the Russian and USA words were respected after the Budapest 1994 summit that both guaranteed the security of Ukraine. Hilarious. Or how Chinese promised to respect Hong King's internal government and ruling.
Zero trust.
Mr Kipling
The "West" also broke the agreement by pushing for "democracy". That was not part of the "keeping HK as it was for 50 years" deal.
Agent_Neo
What exactly does it mean to promote democracy?
That's a typical Chinese way of nitpicking.
quercetum
Great news. Ignore the Harriet Haters and the excretion they spew.
These three countries keep to themselves and don’t invade one another. Only when emulating the Western Imperialism did peace break down.
isabelle
Evidence, please.
How exactly did the "West" break the agreement? Please quote the article, and what exactly was purportedly done.
To my knowledge, the UK (the other signatory to the Sino-British Joint Declaration) has consistently "pushed" for nothing more than the terms of the agreement, which the CCP signed willingly (December 19, 1984), and registered with the UN willingly (June 12, 1985).
The CCP also broke the agreement willingly (and unilaterally), and is now in a "state of ongoing non-compliance."

Beautiful gentlemen!
Promote peace and prosperity in the region. Diplomacy is the way forward to better understanding and more trust and co-operation.
Love your work.

I'm all for peace in your region of the world but be careful Japan. I'm sure Xi has already given Japan a nickname: "Taiwan II".
OssanAmerica
Says your master the CCP.

Only the exclusion of US occupying forces in Japan, South Korea or else any corner in west Pacific and South China sea which processing significant danger and threats to Chinese coast and air and sea.
Otherwise you will see Chinese warships in any country's EEZ. The most recent actions was Chinese navy flotilla patrolling the Tasmanian sea !
elephant200
China contiues to sail within 12 miles of Senkaku.
Freedom of navigation, Chinese navy is essential to patrol those seas because some hostile navy vessels and their airplane were circling around, including that hateful Australian navy !
1glenn
In other words, it is not convenient for Xi to cause trouble at this time.
oldman_13
Agree to meet to establish harmonious ties. South Korea, China then complain about what Japan did. Ties in disarray ("lingering resentment from WW2" nonsense). Lather, rinse, repeat.
Unless South Korea and China stops the indoctrination of their citizens since youth in promoting anti-Japanese sentiments, there will never be any harmony among them.

if you take out emotions, how does a country become a superpower? the history is it’s done by gunboat diplomacy, colonization, exploiting the resources of others and military presence as many places as possible.
at least china in the last couple of hundred years hasn’t colonized anywhere, invaded anywhere and has limited military presence outside china.
the political system isn’t much different than the u.s. - elites steering the ship.

Well said! Unfortunately the usual suspects from the big US industrial military complex are being told to come up with a different narrative, disseminating disinformation to influence public opinion.
Once again, unlike United States of America’s warmongering nature, Japan-China relationships should be based on Beijing principles of peaceful co-existence, mutual benefit and win-win cooperation”.
Asia welcomes China because China is part of Asia, that would be the starting point of any conversation.
elephant200
Unless South Korea and China stops the indoctrination of their citizens in promoting anti-Japanese sentiments.
There was no such a thing known as "Indoctrination" because people were frustrated over the lack of sincerely apology from Japan who get used to glorify the wartime conducts if Japanese military and inhuman treatment of people under imperial occupation. Japan did not learn from history is still very significant!
TaiwanIsNotChina
So we should just look the other way on China being as filthy as they come?
I believe Tibet and Xinjiang would like a word with you. Also Djibouti is far from China.
US primaries are open to large numbers of people. Chinese leaders don't even face a general election.

NED and other USA 3-letter agencies spending money on another attempt at a color revolution. The world has seen this imperialist behavior time and time again.
"Democracy" was not the goal, only chaos and a media story that you just repeated.
Agent_Neo
Will promoting democracy lead to criticism of the government?
That is simply because the Chinese Communist Party does not like the idea of people being dissatisfied with the government.
Even if it is a dictatorship, there will be no criticism if the people are satisfied. You are just blaming the executive branch's negligence on democracy.
China's empire has been overthrown many times by peasant rebellions.
It is wrong to suppress the people's dissatisfaction just because you are afraid of that.
In other words, they don't like it because promoting democracy leads to frequent dissatisfaction in dictatorships and communist countries are overthrown. That's easy to understand lol
It will be difficult for China and Korea, which cannot understand the meaning of treaties between countries, to build friendly relations with Japan, a country governed by law.
If they are dissatisfied with what happened in World War II, they should not have made a treaty with Japan. Russia has not yet made a peace treaty with Japan. This is because World War II has not been resolved.
I wonder if there are many Chinese people who have forgotten that China invaded Vietnam? The only countries that welcome China are those in Africa, where it receives economic aid, and some Asian countries that love corruption.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Your dictatorships are so fragile, we can breath and they fall over. We can't be faulted for breathing.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Where they receive predatory loans more like it.
starpunk
I hope so. You sure can't depend on the USA for that, with that Russian sputnik kissass wimp trump back on the loose.

Billions of dollars of NED type misinformation buys plenty of hypocrisy to wallow in. Have at it. Meanwhile Hong Kong stands proudly under both the Hong Kong SAR and Chinese national flag.

TINC now has acknowledged that Hong Kong is China. Next stop, Taiwan.

Amusing how the US big industrial military complex reps are struggling to come to terms with the new reality. The fact that the White House will not fight the next war in Asia.
A reminder for our readers that the top five weapons manufacturers in the world are all based in the US and that Wall Street rose to historical record during this time of geopolitical uncertainty, regardless of all economics principles. Go figure!
Agent_Neo
During the Hong Kong pro-democracy demonstrations, which were held in opposition to the Chinese Communist Party's political oppression, at least 2,000 people were detained by the authorities and are "missing."
They oppress anything they don't like. That's the Chinese Communist Party.
In eastern Turkmenistan, they have set up concentration camps where forced labor and ideological control are carried out. What era of totalitarianism is this?
