Tokyo cut diplomatic ties with Taipei and established them with Beijing in 1972

As it should be..

Reunification is unstoppable..

Deepening friendship is great and all but how about a commitment to defend Taiwan?

13 ( +14 / -1 )

Reunification through military force is not acceptable to Taiwan or the rest of the world.

Reunification through a peaceful democratic process ius fine. But who wants to come under the control of a dictatorship that doesn't even have elections for it's own leaders?

15 ( +17 / -2 )

If they don’t have elections how do they become leaders.

If they don’t have elections how do they become leaders.

An election among a corrupt single party is not a real election.

Relevant to add this is about strengthening relations with a breakaway entity that has completely zero UN recognition.

And another example of lack of consistency when it comes to these sorts of entities.

Reunification is unstoppable..

I'll tell you what is unstoppable. More and more people recognising oppression for what it is. Soon every Chinese person will know what their government has done to them over the years. And then, bye bye, CCP.

What other unrecognized entities are you concerned about? The dozens littering Russia's borders?

A united China with Taiwan is only possible when the whole country is back under the KMT rule.

The CCP, the only party legally allowed to exist in China, choose their leaders themselves. The populace has no say.

Still the elephant in the room is complete lack of UN recognition.

Beijing's claim is legit, as it was with HK and Macau. Just because the KMT nationalists/fascists/blue-shirts retreated there is irrelevant.

Can't just cherry pick because one loathes Beijing. Show some consistency.

It's a little tough to claim something you never controlled. And those "fascists" won the War of Resistance.

Can't just cherry pick because one loathes Beijing. Show some consistency.

Consistency would be not looking the other way on Russia's war if you were so concerned about territorial integrity.

It's a little tough to claim something you never controlled

A certain capital has never controlled the Donbass or Crimea. That hasn't stopped some quarters asserting it is theirs, has it. But they apply the reverse to Taiwan!

Again, consistency needed.

Through an illegal military intervention, yes. Also doesn't explain how those same troops went on junkets outside of Donbass or Crimea.

Again, consistency needed.

From the same people shouting for consistency.

Taiwan has had western help - direct and indirect - since the late 1940s, allowing it to establish itself and fend of Beijing's attempts at reunification. US has sent large fleets, military aid, military actions etc.

This amounts to "illegal military intervention". Again, didn't see the UN authorise this.

Oh, there is a consistency issue with the smoke blowers.

The populace has no elections?

Not beyond the two lowest levels. But you know this. And if you didn't, perhaps you shoud reconsider your blind devotion tro the CCP.

"Under China's National People's Congress, there are five levels of People's Congress:

Provincial level

Quasi-provincial level

Prefectural-level

Country-level

Township-level

Ordinary Chinese citizens can vote for deputies to represent them at the two lowest, most local levels of People's Congress. Although anyone can stand for election at these levels, candidates must be approved in advance by the CCP."

The ROC is the legitimate government of China and so allowed to request assistance just like Syria's Assad.

Oh, there is a consistency issue with the smoke blowers.

The consistency issue is with those shouting for consistency.

For village mayor. Would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad.

So you’re saying there are elections.

LDP candidates in Japan, must they not be approved in advance by the LDP?
