Surely the Japanese will go for a 4th round of talks after this one!

America is in a terrible bargaining position at this point.

They're deluded if they believe anything from America's fascist government.

The United States is increasingly recognizing the importance of Japan for its economy,

Pretty much everybody already knew this.....except for Trump and his followers.

7 ( +14 / -7 )

Aim high, Akazawa! Good luck.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Trump will prevail. Japan is stuck trying to save the Auto industry because that's all they have, if it tanks the whole country will tank.

So Trump requested the call with Ishiba. It’s clear HE’S the one feeling the pressure to achieve a trade deal, just as he was with Starmer when he made a grovelling phone call to him during a soccer match

Sounds like an uncertain trumpet

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

Very vague comments like this rarely mean anything good.

5 ( +7 / -2 )

Just a guy trying to justify yet another taxpayer funded trip with zero actual progress shown.

-6 ( +7 / -13 )

Sounds like Akazawa san was asked for a progress report. Having none, he decided to say that he has been successful at "enlightening" the US about the 90+ year relationship between the US and Japanese economies.

US GDP is 5 times of Japan, American spend almost 60 billion dollars daily, because they want too or have too

do you see the Trump administration’s traveling to Japan to talk ?

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Trump is a toothless lion. Wave a heavy stick at him and he will bow his head in submission.

bowing may be okay but Trump bending over and say LICK THIS is even more Powerful

Japan should lower or eliminate tariffs on rice and beef. Let the people decide if they want to purchase domestic or imported. Also wouldn't it help the people in times of higher inflation if they had a choice?

If US doesn't lower tariff on auto, start building in roads and ramp up sales to other countries as Canada or any other country that still will be reliant on exporting oil for the time being. Japan won't be able to compete in EV market due to China. Good Luck!

Japan is in the box seat and should turn the tables an increase tariffs on all USA imports. The USA jump when told Japan will dump that trillion dollars of Treasury Bonds on the market if they do not drop tariffs to 0 % and the pass the Nippon Steel deal.

Rivera: JT have a political agenda that controls what they publish on political information. There is no Bias reporting. It is all one-sided political. Take 07/10 misinformation. JT as never acknowledged the continuing Apartheid and ethnic cleansing of the Palestine people that lead to the Hamas counter offensive and refer to it as attack. Like how can it be an attack when the a force is occupying Palestine. the UN have clearly stated this fact. But JT stlll continue to refer to it an attack.

It's naive and ignorant for Japan to think that it holds a special place with the U.S. / trump. Publicly announce a decision to gradually and systematically reduce U.S. debt holdings, while freezing all future purchases. Diversify and shift some of the investments to RMB which could possibly lessen some of the political friction between China and Japan. If the trump wants to isolate the U.S. by bullying, then so be it. Go play by yourself.

Thé fact that the USA is still negotiating indicates they are not in the best position if they were the where they stop and issue a ultimatum like the April extortion attempt. With the amount job exiting the USA labour market going offshore EG Boeing, Case, John Deer, Amazon, Apple and Caterpillar etc. This mean loss of future income tax see the servicing of their 30 trillion debt much harder this in turn will see the USD fall in value making the 30 trillion more harder to service. This is the reality this is the Asian century and the USA century is over.

Does he mean “ Japans inevitable economical decline “ ?

Japan went from the 2nd economy to the 5th and even California, one US State is now ahead of Japan. India to surpass soon.

Japan’s economy and population is shrinking. Only tourism is temporary saving the Bdp for a while.

the only way to correct the economic situation is to accept facts but that is exactly what Japan can’t bring itself to do. Smaller does not have to mean worse.

If we're frank, Japan's economic importance has been heading straight south since 1990 and has only been propped up by massive Govt. Deficit Spending made possible by the BOJ balance sheet expansion.

Japan will be less than 3% of Global GDP this year, after being double digits for many decades and given the demographic situation, will only continue to head south

Above, why Japan has little leverage, market access to a rapidly shrinking and aging market is not very appealing

Some Americans are indeed aware of Japan's economic importance, both to the US, and to the world. Unfortunately, Trump is not included in those Americans.

100% tariffs on US imports to protect Japan's mobile phone manufacturing!

I want to hear such as drama!
