Takao Aizawa, president of the Japan Hospital Association. Hospitals are facing serious financial difficulties as rising costs of goods and labor put increasing strain on their operations. A report released on Jan 31 by the Welfare and Medical Service Agency showed that half of all general hospitals in Japan were operating in the red in fiscal 2023.

Expenses are rising much faster than the increase in revenue. If nothing is done, our country’s hospital system will collapse.

In many cases it is because many of these hospitals have been milking the insurance system and the patients, making them return multiple times for useless visits and rehabilitation. Or only giving a small amount of medicine, so as to make the patient return time and again to receive it!

Government: We're going to increase subsidies for parents looking to start a family. Let's bump up the amount to 500,000 for child birth so that we can help increase the birth rate.
Hospitals: Hmmm, it appears we've been undercharging for child birth, let's increase from 350,000 to 500,000 and start complaining that it is for our own survival.

Hospitals shouldn’t be for-profit. Their job is to take care of people’s health, not making money. If they can’t make money, they should be socialized, like in Europe.

I am fortunate to be retired the hospital charges are only 20% and soon 10% but I still have to pay monthly health insurance. I have had good service from hospitals for five years for my cancer and post-cancer treatment. I have no complaints about that.
A new 800-bed hospital was recently opened near us fully equipped with the latest medical equipment. Hyogo Prefectural Harima-Himeji General Medical Center.
Another one is about to start construction.

I pay 440,000 yen a year for National Health Insurance and my income is not that high. They better not raise it any more.
The Jgov should also start prioritizing affordable health coverage for us people rather than increasing¥for defense.
