The government has an obligation to explain the process to the public because of the huge amount of taxpayer money spent on the Abenomask contract.

Hiroshi Kamiwaki, a constitutional law professor at Kobe Gakuin University, who has demanded information disclosure about the project several times since April 2020. The Abe government delivered cloth masks to every household to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The masks, which became known as Abenomasks, were criticized as too small, defective or dirty, and the project was ridiculed.

The Abe government was totally useless at this critical time. At the beginning of the pandemic, there were no masks available. When this finally got sorted out and it was possible to get masks, at enormous public expense, Abe had these tiny, dirty and useless masks sent to each home in the country. The LDP has a lot to account for.

BTW, I returned my Abenomask with a "Return To Sender" written on the box.

Abenomask was a catastrophe and they ended up paying to store them and eventually burn them !

Disgusting waste of our tax as usual by the corrupt LDP!!!

I remember using mine from time to time as a conversation starter at the office. People used to see it, giggle and ask about it. I don't think I ever saw anyone else use it.

I saved mine as a souvenir.

I remember the day they announced it quite well. It was early in the pandemic and everyone was scared because we had no idea how bad or dangerous it was, etc. We were all looking to the government to demonstrate that they were taking it seriously, and Abe responded with an emergency cabinet meeting to formulate the government’s plan to protect us from this disease. We watched with baited breathe as they emerged and said;

”We’ve decided to spend all the money on these useless little masks that you can expect to receive in 2 or 3 months. So, you know, try not to catch it and die before then. That is all.”

It was always funny seeing the politicians using these masks with their noses or chins sticking out because of how small they were lol.

That was his last fiasco before pulling a "hagwon midnight run". I still wonder which of his friends got the contracts for those useless pieces of cloth.

Also, I still have mine. Never opened, still in its original plastic bag with the flyer it came with.

This government threw away a whopping 44.2 billion yen (around $329 million) on those ridiculous things. Honestly, I can't think of one positive thing to say about that guy.

Sold mine on eBay.

This decade, Japanese bureaucrats became to conceal inconvenient public documents to LDP government with ignoring even definition that "public documents are people's common properties supporting democracy".

I still wonder which of his friends got the contracts for those useless pieces of cloth.

I'm glad somebody finally addressed the elephant in the room.
