That’s going to work out well.

After all those rabbits come in waves and a semi auto magic is the only thing between you and multiple nibbles.

When you have a civilization where under 21's can buy a semi-automatic weapon, you don't have a civilization.
There's simply no justification for allowing people to own these weapons.
If they can't make guns illegal, can they make owning ammunition illegal? That could help.

The key word there is “army”. And the key word in the Constitution is “militia”, which at the time meant pretty much the same thing as army.
I thought these “conservative” judges believed in original intent. This one sounds particularly dumb.
Figures.

id have loved a semi auto when I was under 21, could have killed all those idiots in an afternoon’s spree,!
most of them are my friends now. So bygones be bygones. Thankfully I had a slingshot at the time that broke hitting me in the face. I’m sure someone would have cut me in half back then had they accessed an assault rifle. One thing to own one another to be mature enough to own one.
plasticmonkey
Sounds like one helluva well-regulated militia!

Guns don’t kill people, people do
Mr Kipling
Bobo...
That's true but having a gun makes it a whole lot easier.

Sorry if I am missing something but from what age is “an adult under 21”? Is it 18? Or does this change mean children of any age can buy semi-autos?
If it is changing from 21 to 18, I don’t really see much of an impact… not supporting it though! No need for civilian guns in a modern society.

Since voting and buying a gun are constitutional rights, I propose they be regarded equally, and we do one of two things. Either we make buying a gun as easy as voting, or we make voting as difficult as buying a gun. Just saying.

And the insanity continues - what does anyone need a semi automatic weapon for? To fight off the zombies? Spaaaace Aliens? Those 'squirls' that dare to fight back? To kill and maim fellow workers because you had a bad day?
The US of A will destroy itself in a maelstrom of bullets.

I am confused. Does this mean if you are under 21 you cannot buy a handgun but you can buy a semi-automatic gun in California?
By the way, can I buy flame thrower, gatling gun, grenade launcher or a fully functional battle tank in the US? I mean unlike 250 years ago, nowadays when young adults want to do an uprising semi automatic guns cannot quite cut it. They need better weapons.

Mr Asai
I think most of the world survives quite fine without the need of a semi automatic rifle, no matter what age.
SophiaHernandez
Yes. You can't buy a semi-automatic handgun but you can buy a semi-automatic centerfire rifle. Although I think the court left the requirement that you have a hunting licence intact.
SophiaHernandez
Cops carry them.
MSweet
So they can’t buy cigarettes or a beer but an AK is no problem? Sounds about right for the States!
Blacklabel
have you seen the amount of violent crime in California?
All the criminals have a semi automatic, so why not me?
wouldnt set foot in there without one.
Sven Asai
You usually don’t urgently need cigarettes or beer there for survival and becoming 21, especially as there are already tons of other illegal substances out and available there too, but there are places and situations where you very well need a rifle to have a chance to reach that age. If my interpretation of statistics is not completely wrong, most youngsters in the States die because of too much drugs and the other half because of too less defensive guns, so to say.
Express sister
Yeah. It’s below average.

“If I went to California I would become a criminal” isn’t the brag you think it is.
Azzprin
Back then they used muskets
Today it semi-automatic weapons
If they want to bear arms as in the 2nd amendment written 250 year old, then they should be limited to weapons from that era.
Would the founding fathers have written that if they knew what the weapons and the ones holding them would be like today ?
Attilathehungry
Seems a lot of anti gun zealots don't actually know a lot about guns. A "semi automatic" is NOT a machine gun. A semi auto fires one bullet each time you pull the trigger. It is by far the most common weapon type, especially in handguns.
Rodney
role model for the world.
ian
So it's the antigun that are zealots.
Anyway I wouldn't expect antiguns to know a lot about guns.
The big problem would be if those who like guns don't know much about them
John-San
I really enjoy guns from the machinics, machining, balance and the feel but can stand the noise they make and they need to be lock up in a safe so some idiot gets hold of it. So I don’t own one but I die defending a person right to own one.
Express sister
I want those gone.
itsonlyrocknroll
It is smart and wise to understand the US weapons industry and personal gun culture..
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
U.S. Bought Almost 20 Million Guns Last Year — Second-Highest Year On Record

An individual self-defense right.
ian
Maybe they just want those children to have a chance to shoot back
Blacklabel
i know what i would not become. Deceased simply because a criminal had a gun and I didn’t.
So there is that, being a legal gun owner and all.
Express sister
This article is about regulation not being allowed. And the “right to individual self-defense” seems to be mostly against other people with guns. Because it’s the fun that is the danger.
Attilathehungry
Yeah, I call them zealots. They are much like the anti abortion zealots, who will only accept a total ban on abortions. They are similar in that they are totally unrealistic in their expectations.
The US is always gonna have guns and always gonna have abortions. The trick is in getting to a compromise on these issues that makes enough people wince but finally agree. Nobody getting everything they want.
Blacklabel
nope #18 of 50 which is above average.,“only” 442 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
how many 100,000 people does California have again? Your victimhood chance is pretty solid there if you are unarmed.
SophiaHernandez
No, it's about protection from the state, should it turn tyrannical. Why would the state grant people the right to take up arms and overthrow it?
ian
I guess that's a good context.
EvilBuddha
I have always believed that an American is not a complete citizen unless he is armed. Their national ideal is a 24/7 fully armed citizenry acting in countervailance to anyone else with the range of a fully automatic AR15.
Also guns equal freedom in America. California seemed to be ‘unfree’ till now but it is taking a few steps towards realising the American ideal of guns, freedom and the great American dream.
Peter14
One step forward, followed by two steps back. This is the latter.
SophiaHernandez
No such thing, unless it's been illegally modified. AR-15s are semi-auto, and fully automatic weapons have been heavily regulated since the 1930s.
englisc aspyrgend
So typical, so depressing, so asinine.
so long as they keep their guns and insanity within their own borders they can go on slaughtering each other to their hearts content until they realise their folly.
The USA is far too dangerous for any rational person to endanger them selves by going there. Their gun fetish is such a shame as there is otherwise much that could be good in the country.
