Sen. Bernie Sanders, the Vermont independent and former Democratic primary candidate, had warned Harris before Election Day that she was focusing too much on flipping Republican votes and not enough on pocketbook issues. He issued a statement excoriating party leadership.

“It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them,” he said. "First, it was the white working class, and now it is Latino and Black workers as well. While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they’re right.”

He couldn't be more right as usual.

The usual neo-liberal Wall Street interests on both sides of the aisle sold off American manufacturing and middle class wealth for the financialization of Wall street.

As distractions, the Dems trotted out identitarian issues and the GOP xenophobia and religion.

So the real economic dissatisfaction could be exploited by a demagogue like Trump.

I hope the DNC listens to Sanders and embraces a real economic populism instead of moving to an imaginary 'center' that is something like Cheney/not-Trump.

Not having a leader is an advantage when the goal will be to shut down everything hateful from Trump (which is everything). Nancy Pelosi is still in Congress if Trump really needs someone to dress him down.

-5 ( +8 / -13 )

I hope we haven’t been deceived by Trump’s rhetoric that the nation’s decline can be reversed and the self-assurance, lost since the 1970s’ will be restored.

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Dems you plain got swept across the board because you've disenfranchised normal citizens and got behind an emergency half baked replacement.

Democrats enter a Trump presidency without a plan or a clear leader

Or any sense of self-awareness..

-2 ( +7 / -9 )

Next time get a better candidate with better policies and don't ghost Joe Rogan.

Nancy won’t have squat to say soon. So she’s an afterthought

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

I know their plan.

Someone from their clique already saying

"We are ready to fight back"

Fight back what? Who?

Imagine trying attack the pilot of your own plane, unbelievable these people.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

I thought the Democrats were claiming that this would be the last US election if Trump would win. In that case, why not just disband.

Unless they themselves did not believe whatever they were claiming about Trump. In line with the rest of their hyperbole on various other issues.

2 ( +7 / -5 )

Understandable why those Democrat ladies are slamming those drinks! Must have been like a wake.

6 ( +8 / -2 )

So many down votes on my post above, okay run her again with the same platform and run away from Joe Rogan and see what the results are nest time.

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

and don't ghost Joe Rogan.

Lol, let's face it Trump going on Joe Grogan was preaching to the choir there. All the bros who watch Rogan we're not going to be swayed by Kamala going on. I listened at 2x speed to that show. It was definitely in the comedy category of of a JRE show.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Warnings about Trump’s threat to U.S. democracy were important, they said, but the issue was not top of mind for most voters.

The memory of the war for independence against tyranny has faded. Fighters for freedom and democracy are no more. The U.S. has become a cult nation, bowing to an entertainer.

2 ( +8 / -6 )

@flammenwerfer

If their next candidate is not appealing to the folks who listen to Joe Rogan they will not win again.

They need to toss their insulting woke grievances in the garbage and try to capture the votes of "all the bros."

Having a candidate that aligns with the views of Whoopi Goldberg is a short cut to defeat.

a two-party system is stupid.

it’s like having only two football teams with their respective fans playing each other over and over and over.

it makes people support things about their team that they don’t really support for fear of being ostracized from the tribe. the result is constant tribal warfare.

parties exist to consolidate money. corporate money is evil when trying to improve an entire society.

politicians being thought of as celebrities doesn't help either.

9 ( +9 / -0 )

helpfully told the left over and over that regular people didn’t care about your but Trump whattaboutisms, the obsession to induct Trump over and over, the “muh Jan 6 it’s an insurrection” or your odd insistence that abortion was the top issue.

now your team is defeated and broke, having learned nothing.

Kamala took your money and gave it to singers to not sing and dancers to not dance. Just cause she personally wanted to meet them. You should feel ripped off, disappointed, angry and discouraged.

-1 ( +7 / -8 )

Is it true Kamala mentions “fight” 20 times in a 10 minute concession speech?

if so, that’s not a concession. and is “fight” still a dog whistle that incites violence? Or was that a false narrative all along?

0 ( +7 / -7 )

@Blacklabel

I think she was sending a coded message to her followers.

There is some kind of protest in Chicago tonight by election deniers. I hope it is "mostly peaceful."

2 ( +6 / -4 )

“In the coming months, our party will be doing a lot of introspection, lots of thinking,” said Democratic Rep. Shri Thanedar, whose district contains much of Detroit. “Democrats focused on Trump’s character. His legal problems, being a felon. But for the large part, the people who are economically suffering, who feel that they are worse off economically, did not pay much attention to his character.

In the coming days some of the Democrat recriminations will focus on the Gaza protest vote and some progressives and other voicing their dissatisfaction with the Dems by voting for spoiler Jill Stein in some swing districts.

Trump did well in motivating younger voters to a great extent.

Sanders also knew that by focusing on these economic issues instead of your opponent's character and identity you can win big but the Dems would rather lose than move away from its donor friendly neo-liberal policies.

Trump can get the corporate Wall Street donors while playing off his base with fighting against a phantom 'elite' for workers while never delivering.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Democrats spent billions of dollars warning American voters that Donald Trump posed an imminent threat to democracy, that his economic policies would benefit only his wealthy friends, that he was literally a fascist.

And it has most Democrats thinking and saying. They went to far to the left. We

forgot the middle class.

America spoke. And are tired of the Democrats gaslighting the everyday pain and

suffering of the middle class. The Biden Harris presidency will go down as the

worst in American history. Biden had a real shot of lifting America. But it

was the same old COVID high price and cost of living. Democrats got greedy.

I love what Dana White said.

This is what happens when the machine comes after you.

President Trump is no threat to Democracy. Period. No Hitler.

This election will transform the Democratic party. Will drain the swamp.

The look on Nancy Pelosi face was priceless. That frown and look of sheer fright.

Nancy, I suspect she is really guilty of insider trading. I want to see her locked up.

She took advantage of the American people. She needs to pay. And the horrible things Joy Reid said on air. She needs to go. Whoopy G. too. Those woman on the View. All of them that spread misinformation.

This election brought the Democratic party to it's knees. To it's knees!!!!!!!!!! Like over for a very long time.

0 ( +9 / -9 )

If their next candidate is not appealing to the folks who listen to Joe Rogan they will not win again.

Well, that is the Democratic Dilemma in a nutshell. The three Democrats who were primary candidates who have been on JRE: Bernie, Tulsi and Andrew Yang all came across as likable, unfortunately, for various reasons none were also "appealing" to the DNC. Obama would have been the last guy who could have pulled off that double.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

“It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them,” he said.

Lets just leave this here for Democrats to ponder over.

The working class own and run the United States Of America.

I'm a warrior for the middle class.- Barack Obama.

He once said this and he once was this middle class warrior. See how far you have strayed Democrats?

The country was on the wrong track under Biden and Harris.

Democrats enter a Trump presidency without a plan or a clear leader “—And they have only themselves to blame for their disastrous results—today’s Democratic Party is the party of corruption, hypocrisy, incompetence, destructive ideologies, discrimination, censorship and war and Trump’s landslide victory was a clear message from the American people rejecting all of this.

CNN headline today: World leaders rush to pay homage to Trump as they brace for him shaking up the old-world order.

Damn straight!

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

Trump must be opposed at every turn with every ounce of strength and determination.

Some just do not know or understand or can accept defeat. Well good luck with that.

There will not be much resistance now that we have the Senate and the House.

Democrats will not see the lever of power for a very long time. Beyond 4 years maybe more like 10 or 12 at best.

No Democrat today has any credibility.

“No oppression is so heavy or lasting as that which is inflicted by the perversion and exorbitance of legal authority.”

I don’t know if anyone saw John Fetterman on Rogan?

he seems the smartest and most lucid/realistic of all the current leftists.

Who would have thought, considering he had a debilitating stroke so recently.

-3 ( +3 / -6 )

From the article: Democrats spent billions of dollars warning American voters that Donald Trump posed an imminent threat to democracy, that his economic policies would benefit only his wealthy friends, that he was literally a fascist.

In the end, voters didn't care — or if they did, it didn't matter.

It’s not that they didn’t care, it’s that they saw through the lies.

Why does JT publish such obvious drivel?

-5 ( +1 / -6 )

I don’t know if anyone saw John Fetterman on Rogan?

I did. I have never missed one of Joe's Podcasts. Love the guy!

Let's not leave out Bernie Sanders either. He was not exactly in line with the Harris cluster fudge camp from the start date of day 1 of 110 days till the end of her run.

From Bernie.

"First, it was the white working class, and now it is Latino and Black workers as well," Sanders continued in his statement. "While the Democratic leadership defends the status quo, the American people are angry and want change. And they're right."

Sanders, who won reelection Tuesday to a fourth six-year term in the U.S. Senate, cast doubt about the party's ability to learn its lesson.

Oh the pill is bitter.

Open mouth and swallow Dems.

There will be a "reckoning" bet on that.

Kamila’s concession speech was another final window into the souls of these fallen leaders. She basically doubled down and had a final dig at Trump, virtue signaling to the end talking about the peaceful transition of power, yada yada yada. Again showcasing the obsession with January 6th that may have even been a contributing factor to them losing the race , legitimacy and their own dignity along with it.

Message to future self dem. Grievance and fear peddling probably not the best of political strategy in hindsight guys. Especially when it was you guys that had this by-all-means necessary temperament.

They will have to reinvent themselves almost entirely to have another go at it. Everything about their brand became hollow, hypocritical and hyper- self unaware. The way the media pandered and hypnotized them into such grandiose self belief will also go down in history.

I seriously dobt though that they are in a place capable of owning what happened, nor self reflection. Nothing will be learned. Hopefully I’m wrong cause every system needs a strong voice of opposition. The right needs a strong left and vice versa. It may take an entire generation to dewoke them to not be so broke. Gunna be painful.

In the meantime am enjoying seeing the celebrations and jubilations of the American people out in the streets. They have been energized and feel like they have some real hope ( not the propaganda kind ), and most importantly, a shared sense of collective agency. The vibe is positive, ambitious and full of anticipation. Unless of course you work for CNN or the voice.

Now it’s up to Trump to deliver. The real work begins.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Bernie Sanders sounds like a wonderful guy for your leader. Why did you steal his nomination at least twice, if not three times?

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

this admin and their weaponization of the Justice Dept is coming to an end and it's long overdue. We can't spy, keep secrets, or take out political opponents we don't like just because we have a difference of opinion, that is not what the US is about! We all have a right to our opinions and the people overwhelmingly agreed with us.

Wow its like you dont understand Trump at all.

We can't spy, keep secrets, or take out political opponents we don't like just because we have a difference of opinion,

All things Trump has stated many times he WANTS to do. Even to use the military to take out opponents.

that is not what the US is about!

Under Trump thats exactly what you will get and YOU VOTED FOR IT!

Only a complete fool trusts the words of serial liars like Trump, a convicted felon and someone who has done more than enough to warrant a few lifetimes behind bars.

You deserve everything bad Trump brings to you and to America. But the world does not deserve another round of Trump and his disasters. We didnt want him and didnt vote for him but we have to pay for your mistake. Not happy Jan!

All readers, please control your emotions.

Trump did well in motivating younger voters to a great extent.

With the help of Charlie Kirk

Sanders also knew that by focusing on these economic issues instead of your opponent's character and identity you can win big but the Dems would rather lose than move away from its donor friendly neo-liberal policies.

Which would have never come to fruition.

Trump can get the corporate Wall Street donors while playing off his base with fighting against a phantom 'elite' for workers while never delivering.

Oh, on the contrary....

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Perhaps the simplest lesson the Democrats should learn (but I hope they don't) is this- don't scold and scorn voters and then ask for their support. Trump, for his faults, is always authentic. He can run his campaign on "I'm Donald Trump". Harris tried to run on "I'm NOT Donald Trump" without providing anything else. And failed.

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Well, the only thing I can say the left lost,

The 'left' did not lose because the left never had a chance as Bernie said.

Kamala was a centrist neo-liberal and was rejected.

Lets see if the Dems want to move in the direction of Bernie and give a real fight or go with more Liz Cheney pandering to the corporatist center.

0 ( +3 / -3 )

The Sanders quote at the end of the article is spot on. The Democrats need a sane policy platform instead of the elitist extreme positions they have embraced, and instead of basing their whole campaign on "Trump is bad". In the event, for most people the choice was about political positions and not about a particular leader. You can be on the Trump train without particuarly liking Trump (who I personally always found annoying).

That both RFK and Tulsi Gabbard, who are NOT Trump admirers joined the Trump team should tell you enough.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

The 'left' did not lose because the left never had a chance as Bernie said.

Kamala was a centrist neo-liberal and was rejected.

You weren’t saying this a week ago, quite the opposite, in fact.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

The way the Harris campaign wheeled out celebrities actually offended the common decency of ordinary people.

Hardly the party of FDR anymore.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Lets see if the Dems want to move in the direction of Bernie and give a real fight or go with more Liz Cheney pandering to the corporatist center.

I pray they go Bernie's direction, that is great for the MAGA movement.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

It would be smart if Democrats could cease crying a river, wallowing in one excuse after another, cease and desist this blinkered cloak of denial, delusion.

Donald Trump has been gifted a platform of, I suggest unprecedented power, a clean sweep….

Harris 226, Trump 295, Senate Dem 44 GOP 52 US House Dem 191. GOP 206 even the popular vote Harris 67,927,989 votes (47.6%) Trump 72,623,882 votes (50.9%).

All inescapable,

Accusing levelling 50.9% of voting public as fascist, misogynist, racist, dimwit rednecks will simply prove without doubt, the belief that Harris billion-dollar campaign, failed on policy, reveled in toxic identity political dogma, stank of a festering sneering agenda of elitism.

Marginalized hard working families, whining lecturing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion doctrine ideology.

All threatening to smother long held community centric beliefs.

The final straw was the worship of the shallow hollow fakery of celebrity endorsement

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Lets see if the Dems want to move in the direction of Bernie and give a real fight or go with more Liz Cheney pandering to the corporatist center.

I pray they go Bernie's direction, that is great for the MAGA movement.

No way, the Dems moving in the Cheney direction is why Trump is the President-elect now.

https://jacobin.com/2020/01/donald-trump-bernie-sanders-2020-presidential-election-republican-democrat

Both sides don't want to admit that though.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

No way, the Dems moving in the Cheney direction is why Trump is the President-elect now.

No, the reason why Trump is President is because of the failed liberal policies that were choking the average American, they were a complete repudiation of this admin and those policies.

JJE

The way the Harris campaign wheeled out celebrities actually offended the common decency of ordinary people.

Hardly the party of FDR anymore.

Agree. "Arguments" by Lizzo and CardiB one side, and RFK and Tulsi Gabbard on the other. Good grief.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

the failed liberal policies

Can you be specific?

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Sanders, who nearly won the Democrats' presidential nomination in 2020, was not optimistic about the party's future.

What happened? There were so many celebrities endorsing harris
