I wonder if we can get local police to follow these guys around and make sure they are doing everything by the book.

Local police have no jurisdiction.

ICE and border patrol are out of control. That inner fascism has been released by Trump.

Native born citizens have gotten letters to self-deport within a week or face arrest. El Salvador returned 6 others wrongly deported in the past, but now it’s politics and not doing the right thing.

“the agents claimed they were looking for another man with a different name before they dragged him and his wife out of the car.”

Idiotic incompetence. Judge will have a field day with these brainless tools.

No smoke without fire.

Trump's ICE goons running around like the SS...

If they want to arrest some real illegals, just wait at the gate for the maid shift change at Mar-A-Lago...

Neo-Nazi MAGA regime continues to destroy the lives of thousands of Hispanic families in the U.S.

Bunch of scumbags..

Why smashing the window unless the man refuse to get out of the car. There is more to the story here. Lawyer is intentionally leaving a lot of things out.

Just let the ICE do their job. If everything is correct, he will be out. Fanning the flames on media and crying to reporters ain't gonna solve anything. By the way, what kind of persecution is a woman and a kid even facing in Guatemala that she is given asylum status when the husband is secretly staying for 4 years in the US? The ICE job is to check if they are even exploiting the system or not. So let them do their work.

There is only two outcome. One is that everything is in order and he get release and able to apply for asylum too due to his wife already gotten it or two is that he get send back to Guatemala with his family and it's that government problem to look after their citizens.

It would be nice if the Trump supporters cheerleading this would take a moment to consider the fact that if sledgehammer wielding government agents can smash car windows to grab whoever they want with no due process or accountability, then its only a matter of time before their car window is the one getting smashed and they are the ones getting dragged off to god knows where. Trump doesn't need you anymore and unless you are a billionaire he'll disappear you too. Farmer complaining about the destruction of your livelihood? Small businessman ruined by Trump tariffs? Its only the rule of law and a functioning democracy that allows you to raise your interests.

You all need to follow Sir Thomas More's advice:

“William Roper: “So, now you give the Devil the benefit of law!”

Sir Thomas More: “Yes! What would you do? Cut a great road through the law to get after the Devil?”

William Roper: “Yes, I'd cut down every law in England to do that!”

Sir Thomas More: “Oh? And when the last law was down, and the Devil turned 'round on you, where would you hide, Roper, the laws all being flat? This country is planted thick with laws, from coast to coast, Man's laws, not God's! And if you cut them down, and you're just the man to do it, do you really think you could stand upright in the winds that would blow then? Yes, I'd give the Devil benefit of law, for my own safety's sake!”

Great idea, jurisdiction matters aside, some seem to think local police have nothing better to do than that.

The "no smoke without fire " comment and "just let ICE do their Job " comment tells me people are living in an insulated fairyland with zero knowledge of history or zero experience with unlaw and unorder.

I Argentina in the Military Dictator period, they would abduct students from Uni and push them out of helicopters over the Atlantic.....if they had kids, the kid would go to a childless military person and wife.

Look at Nazi Germany and the Jewish experience if you want a framework that works and has been recreated many times.

Wait until they "come for you "....

They absolutely have nothing better to do than to monitor crazed thugs from the administration. And federal agents have to follow every single state law like everybody else.

Wanna bet that as soon as ICE goons arrest someone who looks nearer to caucasian than anything else, there'll be something done?

He did not say "Thank You"? That is why?

America great again.

Nothing so subtle, I fear. They're just racist filth and have been emboldened by the current political scene.

Closing your window doesn’t make the police go away, any more than ignoring them and continuing to talk on your phone when you’re being arrested for something

The ruling class of America has felt under threat ever since the 1960s youth revolt, the Black and Women's Liberation movements and the anti-war demonstrations. Banking on the "bread and circuses" of consumer and celebrity culture and gaslighting with right-wing MSM 24/7 the big, bad "gumint" became the exclusive tool of the donor class in winning elections and so inevitably spawned the disaffected MAGA movement whose followers have sleepwalked into allowing a police state to control their thoughts under a wannabe dicktator called DJT. America is now on the brink of an authoritarianism like nobody has ever experienced and only the street with the support of moneyed patriots and last but not least the staggering incompetence and hubris of Trump and his cabinet of marionettes will save the Republic. Each incident of ICE using Gestapo methods will be seen as a nail in the shyster's coffin.

“We came here to do honest work. To fight for our family," Ortiz said through a translator. "

There are 33 countries in Central/South America and you decide to flee to the US why???

We think we would never become a tyranny. Or become part of a "SPECIAL POLICE UNIT" and It all starts with a few lies, then the small things. We start to justify it. We think we are doing the right thing. But it is only when we look back and think. What was I doing? How did I go from being a normal cop to being something else? I think the book Ordinary Men eloquently sums it up. All Ordinary men, and how it takes guts to walk away, while the 99% follow orders. Might be the Hispanic today, maybe some black guy tomorrow, maybe the trade unionist, maybe a democrat, who knows? Maybe just anyone protesting.

Just let the ICE do their job. If everything is correct, he will be out.

We know for a fact that this isn't the case - people have already been deported as a result of mistakes. If they make a mistake and transport you to some hellish prison in El Salvador, they will lie and say you are a terrorist and literally ignore the rulings of the Supreme Court.

Within the space of a few months, the US has turned into an authoritarian regime.

And remember, this is just the start....

"First they came for the asylum seekers..."

3 ( +5 / -2 )

..They absolutely have nothing better to do than to monitor crazed thugs from the administration.

Most local cops would disagree with the insulting claim that " they ( local cops ) absolutely have nothing better to do than to monitor crazed thugs from this administration" so it can be safely discounted for the cheap point scoring shot it is.

What is happening here is that because the country voted in a President who is obviously a racist and latent white supremacist, every person working in any branch of government who harbors such sentiments now feels free to openly act out and display them, knowing that the highest office in the country will back them up. Today people of middle eastern and Latino background are in the crosshairs. Tomorrow it could be anybody.

The United States is going backwards, destroying all the progress that has been made with so much difficulty over the past 100 years. We have an Executive Office that does not abide by Court rulings much less any kind of morality. It has no respect for the rule of Law, except to use it to achieve it's aims.

We are where we are not just because of Trump and those who put him office, but all the Americans who are watching this fascism grow before their eyes, Congress, the Judiciary, Politicians of all parties who can't and/or won't do a thing to stop it.

This is not the America I grew up in. Sure, illegal immigration, the flow of drugs, our trade deficits, all need to be corrected. Hell, it even makes sense to extend more strategic control in areas like Greenland and the Panama Canal. But not by destroying the very fabric of our country, and the faith and trust the free world has put in us since 1945.

Total incompetence. The so-called 'agents' (for all we know, they could be anybody, since they don't seem required to produce any kind of official ID), asked for "Antonio", but this guy they seized was not "Antonio". Different name. I hope they sue for mistaken identity, physical and mental harm, and damaging his car.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Even though they kept asking for "Antonio", and he kept saying he is not "Antonio", they forcibly arrested him anyway. Maybe they are trying to fill quotas.

Press is trying to generate false sympathy for illegal aliens now being targeted because of their risk profile, both gang membership/affiliation and prior criminal records

ICE Agents putting their lives on the line in order to keep Americans safe from unvetted illegal aliens, millions of whom are known criminals and/or associated with organized crime etc.

Fellow in Maryland now in a Guatemalan prison is case in point and the fellow in this story above, someone with likely a very similar and dangerous criminal background.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

If you watch the video, he was just sitting in his car and wanted to wait for his lawyer. He did nothing wrong. ICE officer is totally out of line here and should be fired. This was just some regular dude and the ICE officer was on some power trip

I wonder if we can get local police to follow these guys around and make sure they are doing everything by the book.

They could technically, but it wouldn’t make a difference because ICE can override the police when it comes to apprehending illegals.

ICE has greater authority over immigration matters, but they can’t force local police to help them. ICE has greater authority over immigration matters, but they can’t force local police to help them, nor can they stop them from their mission when it comes to illegal apprehensions, ICE being a Federal Agency under the DHS can tell local police to take a hike in other words.
