Victoria have been caught out twice so far this summer due to bad management. The green lobby is strong in Victoria politics and are hard against control burning. If controlled burning was allowed which is done by First Nation elders the fire would burn out tonight with the expected cold front coming through . Where NSW has seen fire this summer which had burn out over night due the control burning over the last 3 winters by First Nation Elders. Let the people who know the land the best manage these Nation Parks and State Forests. Then you will never see another black summer of 2019/20.

John-san -

Interesting points. Please explain how and where controlled burning would have saved The Grampians over the past weeks?

Tinder dry drought conditions, temperatures in the 40s accompanied by gale force winds created firestorm situations, all started by dry lightning.

The first nations people had developed back burning and undergrowth burning techniques over the millennia but to think those techniques would be saviours in such conditions is naive.

To think that 500 years ago the local aborigines could have managed the same situation - a raging dry lightning lit fire in mountainous terrain - with success is difficult to begin to imagine.

Australia has been naturally burning for 100,000s of years which has resulted in plant species requiring fire to seed and grow.

Check of the wind and temp during the first and second night very low wind and temp down to the low 20c. If culture wet burning off occurred during the last three winters there be no fuel load or very little. At night if it did not burn out teams could be sent into the forest in safe condition for containment strategies. Because there was no cultural wet burning the fuel load keep feeding the fire and no safe condition at night occurred. Also ground water drawn out by the fire in the tree top was block by the fuel load this prevent air cooling during the night which subdued the fire. Mate when the First Nation were in control there was never any Mega Fire. How do we know this. First Nation have a verbal history passed on to generation to generation. It call the Dream Time and in these Dream Time events they tell of natural disaster like great floods, long droughts and bad seasons of prey but there are no great fire events mention in there Dream Time events.

Jon san...there is a bush fire department in all states.

They don't make decisions on "green " or "woke " practices.

You don't know what fire occurred in "First Nations " time as there are no records.

First nations people have been appropriated by white people enough already....dont continue this practice to push your political agenda.

BTW the "right " in Aussie political life are no friend of "First Nation " people

The green lobby

Hey Trump people (seems they are in Australia too), today's extreme fires (from climate change) have no borders just like today's extreme damaging hurricanes (from climate change) have not borders. Proof: Look at the Trump state of Florida (and they really hate the green woke) and it seems no amount of Trump policies could have saved that state from devastation storm surges, collapsing and sinking condos. Hurricanes and extreme fires don't care about woke vs non-woke. The problem is people like to live in nice places like ocean, water, forest, nature areas, etc. and with these areas come more risks. It's going to get worse. The best thing to do for the long term in case you live in a high risk area (and are a non climate denier) is sell at a high price to a Trump climate denier, move to a safer and cheaper place, then pocket the extra cash. The climate denier is left with a high risk house and you can sleep well at night safely. And if you want to enjoy a nice green area without living there? Just go camping or rent a cabin for the weekend.

Nishikat...indeed....following RECORD floods in North Coast Lismore, NSW Aust., the Government is buying property on flood plains not to be rebuilt.

Insurance wont cover flood in many other areas of this old town.

Sorry fact, but fact it is.

John-san - thanks for your reply.

Your stats re the Grampian fires of 2 weeks ago need adjusting.

Dream time is an integral part of Aboriginal life/faith/culture and is to be admired.

But it is not a scientific based collection.

Some scientists actually believe ancient Aboriginal tribes may well have been responsible for changing the landscape of Australia by out of control burning. There's no actual proof though.

What does exist are sedimentary and other geological records that show Australia has "been burnt out" so to speak any number of times over the millennia.

Australia 10,000s of years ago was far more wooded than now, but fire forever changed the landscape and even influenced regional weather patterns.

It's beyond belief that a limited number of Aboriginal people could have stopped blazes destroying millions of square kilometers.

Guru MIck: It is the only practice I support by the yuan mob which is burning off. I don,t support the independent Koori Medical service nor their Koori only age care funded by the tax payer. The universal heathcare is to cover all Aussies is good enough. Get that straight. You can see you have on knowledge of local condition nor our fire services. Read my first comment condemning the green woke for preventing burn offs. This woke green mob are totally against burn off and I am for burn off. Mate It the different politicial practices that allow burn off in one state and totally difference practice in the other. Government prevent fire service from managing fire concerns in the bush. Fire management is control by the National Park and State Forest service which have stupid environmentalist in charge. And blame go onto these idiot and they defend their poor management on climate change. So get your Fact correct and read the whole comments instead picking out a few word.

John san...thanks for your input.

On another forum, same argument made about "Greenies In Parks Admin delaying backburning "

Actually concerns also raised in NSW Parliament as it concerned bushfires in NSW some years ago.

Response by the Minister in charge was to table documents showing an INCREASE in hectares deliberately burnt by Parks Admin.

Similarly, claims made that "Farmers cant backburn " didnt hold up to scrutiny.

Just need to inform your local fire fighters, fill out a form and burn away.

I just resist the idea that "woke politics " is really impacting decisions.

Anyway, you sound like someone who has experienced bushfires, as have I.

Pretty darn scary.

condemning the green woke for preventing burn offs.

This only goes so far - in fact it doesn't make any difference. People will have to move out of these high risk places. Anyone remember the Surfside condominium in Florida? Desantis hates woke and fights it to the end. But condos are still sinking and being condemned. This is about climate change. Climate change does NOT care about who is in political office. Forest fires, floods, hurricanes, property damage. It will continue and it doesn't matter who is in office.

The universal heathcare is to cover all Aussies is good enough.

Wish we had that in the USA. It's a big US scam and Trump wants to keep it that way, in fact it's going to get worse. Why do conservative Aussies love their government healthcare so much but Trump people in the USA hate the idea of universal government healthcare in the USA? It's really weird because these American MAGAs are happy to accept the Japanese healthcare system while living here.
