Under the deal that the EU were pushing Australia were not to be allowed to use the names feta or parmesan for our cheeses at it was some kind of cultural appropriation! From a country where many of the early immigrants that actually came from Europe,
Australia now says,
Catchya!
What would the iconical Chicken Parmy be renamed away?

Not particularly Yellowstone is it.

Where are the cowboys/girls on horseback?
The EU had an impossible task, to align the political expectations of 27 member states, all having agendas the diverse rewards afforded from a toxic common agricultural policy was always a hiding to nothing.
UK political classes will chortle, blow raspberries, however little has changed, pandemic/Brexit should have seen the end of subsidies to maintain the agricultural conglomerate price fixing, supermarket monopolies.
Don't get fooled again, meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
You must be having a laugh.
The UK is about to sign a trade agreement with Australia, all the subsidies will still remain in place.

I'm sure most of those "paper pushers" have a preference for free trade but know what happens the nanosecond their farmers feel threatened by competition. Tractors and herds of livestock blocking major highways and surrounding capitals. The EU's "paper pushers" hands are tied by their farmers refusal to accept any kind of competition, while demanding unfettered access to the markets of other nation's farmers.

Good on Don Farrell, our trade minister, for staying strong and not giving in on what is important to Australians.

Australian beef is very good and at good prices too.

It still seems to depend on the good faith of the importing country even after such trade deals are done. I am still waiting for cheaper European cheese in Japan after an agreement was signed between them a few years back.

When I lived in Australia in the early 1990s I found Australian grass fed beef to be tougher and not as good tasting as grain fed beef. Just a personal opinion. I was told when living there that American feed lots don't work in Australia's climate.

The EU centralized govt is too weak. You can't please everyone all of the time. If you can't negotiate win-win, I suppose lose-lost negotiations that make everyone unhappy aren't an option.

Orwell would appreciate the doublethink involved here.
