King of the who? I didn't vote for him.
It is long past time for Canada to do away with farcical kings and elect its head of state like a real country.
The previous Trudeau government acted unconstitutionally with repercussions because Canada does not have either an elected head of state nor an elected senate. Where was Chuck when citizens of Canada had their rights trampled on by Trudeau?
Bob Fosse
That’s how monarchy works. “I didn’t vote for him” is also how democracy works.

@Bob Fosse
A modern democracy should elect its head of state, period.
bass4funk
Exactly!
Bob Fosse
So? You will still be able to say “I didn’t vote for him” unless everyone votes for the same person.

The spurious claim of all dictators.

Dictators are never elected

"speech from the throne"
Did they ship the throne with Charles or do they keep extra ones scattered around Commonwealth nations for this purpose?
Bob Fosse
Look. I’ll try to make it simple because you both seem to be having trouble.
People will always say “I didn’t vote for him” because in an election one candidate wins and others don’t.
It’s really very simple.

As a non-Canadian I believe it is up to Canadians. I imagine there is a process either through amending the constitution (if they have one) or a popular referendum.

It's time for a CANZUK agreement- an EU style agreement that sees open borders and free trade among the 4 countries of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. That would knock the sails out of any future prospect of the US absorbing Canada.
Fighto!
Good for Canada.
That Mountie Charles is looking up to must be 7 foot tall!
Aly Rustom
Are you Canadian?
Ken
Ask America in 2016 and 2024 if that is true lmao

A dictator is someone who threatens or attacks a country/territory because they wanted to take it over like what is happening or about to happen to Taiwan, Ukraine, Canada, Greenland etc
bass4funk
We did, very true and that’s why the Dems lost. You read me well.
A dictator also holds centralized, unchecked power, controlling all branches of government without oversight. They suppress opposition you name it, censorship, propaganda, imprisonment, or violence, while using fear and loyalty to maintain control. Elections, if they ever occur, are typically rigged, and dissent is not tolerated. Dictators often rely on military support to enforce their rule and crush resistance, while dominating the economy to reward allies and punish enemies. Without democratic checks and balances, this concentration of power frequently leads to corruption, abuse, and widespread human rights violations, but since the U.S. is nowhere near that, we have nothing to worry about, relax libs.

support for the nation that recognises him as its sovereign but is coveted by U.S. President Donald Trump as a 51st U.S. state.
Is Reuters pretending that they are taking Trump seriously on this lol?

A monarch with zero power versus a head of state with a lot of power - which is better? I don't think there is a perfect answer. A lot of European countries still have a monarch, not because they want to obey their king or queen but because they can't think of a better solution.

@albaleo
There are no checks and balances in Canadian democracy. The ruling party appoints the Governor General, members of the Senate and the Judiciary. All political power rests in the hands of 1 person which is exactly how Canada got saddled with 10 years of unchecked disaster from Justin Trudeau.
