Well well, Jacinda Ardern's woke legacy has finally driven New Zealanders to this. This is just a damning indictment of her past policies, which prioritized ideological crusades over the well-being of everyday Kiwis. Instead of addressing the housing crisis, rising costs, or crumbling healthcare, Ardern focused on pushing globalist health and social narratives, severely mismanaging the economy and woke theatrics. It's no wonder people are leaving in droves when she's left a mess too great for Luxon and the Nats to be able to fix any time soon.

The so-called "kindness" of her leadership has left New Zealanders with empty wallets, empty promises, and now, empty homes.

127,800 people left but only 50% 63,900 were New Zealanders. That is offset by immigration. Does not sound like a major problem.

Middle-Earth America needs to be made great again.

Jay

Well well, Jacinda Ardern's woke legacy has finally driven New Zealanders to this.

The National party was in power in 2024. It was the National Party that crashed the economy. Nobody disputes this.

Yes Jay, I am sure "woke " policies are to blame.

Or maybe economics.

New Zealand has a small population ,small market for sales, not much mining, lots of sheep and the prettiest scenery on earth.

Before "woke ", I would consider distance to export markets increasing costs, lack of a big tech sector, lack of resources in mining and similar ,generally just a long way from the markets in Asia and Europe.

But hey buddy, if "woke " is your thing, who am I too disagree.

Despite the politics going on in New Zealand, that photo of Auckland is just stunning. Definitely one of my favorite cities in the world.

GM, sorry two decades out of date. Sheep gone, land bashed with fertiliser to provide long lush green grass for dairy herds, Frontera?, nitrogen rich fertiliser entered the waterways and turned them into algae infected green moss.

Mankind at it's best again.

And it's always been like that - the main reason is that Australia eased its policy on NZers working and getting residency, and so many have moved.

The Labour government COVID response largesse created high inflation that is now under control, but the economy is stunted as a result.

for a population of 4 million and a working population about half that, yeah it can become a problem

Because the country is going woke to please the new immigrants...

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

With great respect to NZ, the salaries there are low, cost of living is very high, and there is not much keeping people there if they want to go.

Pretty much all NZ citizens are entitled to immediate permanent residency Australia - and with that comes potentially far greater salaries.

Because the country is going woke to please the new immigrants...

Conservatives have been in charge over there since 2023. What are their "woke policies"? Curious to know.

Exactly. NZers know it. The dalliance with wokey, hypocrite Jacinda and her party is well and truly over.

I’m sure this warms the cockles of neo Marxist globalists’s hearts; replacing the indigenous population with immigrants.

Not at all surprised. NZ has got to be one of the most boring places on the planet. Some "nice" views but would hate to live there.

You said it. The reality is that many of these “immigrants” who are saving NZ hang around and gut it out in the Jacinda-wrecked and bizarre NZ economy just until they qualify for visa status that enables them to quit NZ for Australia.

Remember when the international MSM gushed in rapt infatuation with their leftist dream Jacinda Adhern?

NZers woke up and booted her out much faster than Canadians woke up to the reality of her equally poison comrade Justin Trudeau.

Iron man above....whaddya mean the sheep are gone ?

Are the "New Zealanders and sheep " jokes gone too ?

,tis a sorry, sorry day if that be so....

So many jokes, so little time...

can any kiwi here explain how woke polices impacted the economy? how was capital misallocated? genuinely curious, not furthering any cause.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Not a Kiwi but I would imagine a billionaire businessman or women would consider "wokeness " before investing in say , a high tech factory or a steel producing one.

Woke....kills everything....everywhere

Incredible country. Wonderful food, staggeringly beautiful scenery and nice, smart people who don't kill each other en masse, all in a calm nation not ripping itself apart.

You'd hate it.

The 63,000 is 1.6% of the population. Will the 24 million sheep notice?

The radical right at it again.

Ardern's success really hurt you guys eh? 2 years after she left office, an article that has nothing to do with her, the obsessed radical right has only one comment: Ardern! Woke woke woke woke! Brainy stuff, really brainy.

2 years after she left office, an article that has nothing to do with her,

It is very much to do with Adhern. Her dictatorial and ridiculous measures re the covid scamdemic put NZ exactly where it is now.

People waking up to the fact that ultra liberals like former leader Jacinta Adern/Gavin Newsom/Kamala Harris/ Justin Trudeau etc. eventually ruin every city/country they rule?

-3 ( +5 / -8 )

Conservatives have been in charge over there since 2023.

The NZ National Party is about as “conservative” as today’s Tory party in Britain, that is to say, not at all.

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

What has the incumbent government done since 2023 to fire up economic growth?

Have they cut tax rates? Have they reduced government spending? Have they lifted onerous regulations?

(I hear their central bank has been cutting interest rates.)

If they have been too timid with policy changes then they will not see rapid results, and if so no wonder immigrants will immigrating on to other places. The new guy, I forget his name, but his head looks like a bowling ball, doesn’t seem to have a lot of charisma about him. Not sure what his policies are, whereas with someone like Milei in Argentina you sure know.

Also, it seems like New Zealand’s population has grown over the years, so an absolute number of emigrants might be a record but in percentage terms it might not be. Eg if the population was 10 million then 150K emigrants would be a record but a smaller percentage.

The biggest problem is the cost of living

The average house price is over a million nzd or about 900,000,000 yen

I have thought about moving there to take of my parents but there is no way I could afford it.

I calculated I would have to earn double or more than what I earn here in Japan to have a similar lifestyles but wages aren't that much higher than Japan

The Healthcare system is terrible, in Japan you can get a mri and reading for 10000-20000yen, whereas in NZ it takes weeks (at best ) to get an appointment and then days for follow up

Education levels are very low, I have a friend who teaches at a university who tells me 18bl year olds are less educated than Japanese junior high school students

Public transportation is a shambles , they shut down the rail network for a month every summer

And Auckland has a huge immigration crisis

Add in the high rates of crime in Auckland

Plus tourism industry being squeezed by 10000 yen entry taxes

And things are not looking good

Again, I love NZ and would love to move there someday but it really needs to get things sorted or more and more talented people are doing to move across the ditch.
