I was as shocked as everyone else when Russian forces pulled out of the city but in hindsight, it was a very smart move. It's been turned into a ghost city and a black hole for resources and military of the Nasties. And the Nasties blowing up the dam is off the table. Unless they want to flood a city they control. In WW2 the Red Army liberated Kherson from the north, not from the east. This is what will happen again.

The thing is that if the Russian's hadn't evacuated the civilians who were willing, and then withdrawn the Allied soldiers from the city before winter set in, odds are very high Kherson would be blacked out more often, and the people blaming Russia for it losing power after their withdrawal would be blaming Russia for it losing power because they didn't withdraw.

People are suffering so Russia and Putin can save some kind of face. That's all there is to it now. Be the man, Putin, and admit your mistakes and beg forgiveness. You know it is time.

“As for attempts to establish some kind of tribunals, they will not have any legitimacy and will not be accepted by us. They will be condemned by us,” Peskov said during a media briefing.

No less legitimacy than the annexations.

Zelensky is lying about Ukrainain soldiers death

Both Putin and Zelenskyy are lying. We know this. I just don’t care about the invaders.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Putin is the invader and aggressor.

If you are not part of the solution,in Ukraine, you are part of the problem, and not the problem of the US

-11 ( +3 / -14 )

It was known that it would happen again, Russia is taking advantage of its winter tactical advantage in which they are experts..

Ukrainian civilians flee and seek refuge..

Comedian President negotiate with Russia because Russia will not stop..

-10 ( +5 / -15 )

Living in a delusional world, knowing Ukrainain cannot defeat Russian, without attacking inside Russia ,

-13 ( +1 / -14 )

The comments are so wildly inconsistent. One day everyone here is saying Russia is weaponizing winter. The next its that winter benefits Ukraine and they will use it to drive out the invaders!

Then its they have no more missiles, but somehow almost every day there is another "missile attack" story.

Now the Russians dont even have socks supposedly. Its just all over the place and the propaganda and misinformation doesnt help to resolve this at all.

-8 ( +7 / -15 )

Why are Ukrainain and EU still financing their demise,by Ukrainain shipping the gas ,and European buying the gas

-6 ( +4 / -10 )

@Tokyoliving

Russia is taking advantage of its winter tactical advantage in which they are experts..

That comment is worth a chuckle. The Russians were certainly no “experts” back in February (winter) when they invaded Ukraine and their tanks and other vehicles were immediately jammed up on major roads, unable to move for a couple of days. The ones that went off the road got bogged down in mud, and the military’s major goal to take Kiev and other major cities was quickly scrapped.

Then there is the Russo-Finnish War of 1939-40. The Finn soldiers in their white camouflage smocks and moving around on skis made easy prey of the bumbling Soviets in their olive uniforms trundling through deep snow.

They’re not mutually exclusive things. I know that’s a hard concept for you to grasp.

The bitter little mean man in Russia just can't accept defeat. Putin and the Russians are just lucky that the Ukrainians don't have the means to lob as many bombs on their cities.

3 ( +9 / -6 )

Storm, Ukrainain do have the mean to do it ,they are chicken to do it

-8 ( +2 / -10 )

The modifier “yet” needs to go in here somewhere.

they are chicken to do it

They’re not mutually exclusive things. I know that’s a hard concept for you to grasp.

So both sides can have the same advantage?

yeah if it’s a narrative that you don’t mind to flip flop back and forth on day after day.

otherwise winter can’t give an “advantage” to both sides.

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

The longer this war goes on the European will suffer, the consequences

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

So both sides can have the same advantage?

This really isn’t that hard. The Russians are trying to leverage the cold weather on the civilian population BECAUSE the cold weather disadvantages them on the battlefield.

Hypothermia in open foxholes makes soldier slow to react if they react at all. We saw video of this last week.

The ground hardens giving heavy armor room to maneuver in combined arms operations. Ukraine can do combined arms. Russians objectively cannot. And if they DO attempt to maneuver, they get blown to hell by drone directed GPS artillery.

And hard ground makes it harder to dig in. Being above ground is a no-no in an artillery barrage.

These are not hard issues to grasp. One thing AND another can both be true.

In this case the Russians are committing war crimes BECAUSE they cannot fight on the battlefield.

A little logic goes a long way.

The bitter little mean man in Russia

The supporters and apologists for this disgraceful little specimen are as repugnant.

Depraved.

get your own piece of Ukraine now, limited time offer!

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said it would require more than 1 trillion dollars to rebuild Ukraine, and Kiev plans to engage Western countries into the effort by granting them ‘patronage’ over certain regions and cities.

The president claimed that certain countries, including France, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Italy, Turkey, Switzerland, the United States, Japan and Australia have already signaled their interest.

"Meanwhile, back on October 25 the Ukrainian president lashed at other countries for their reluctance to finance efforts to rebuild his country, adding that the Kiev government has not yet received "a single coin" for the purpose."

not a demand?

The "Combat Alfalfa" (as a comedy writer once referred to them) of Russia are not going to adapt well to winter in open foxholes with no heat, no cover, no blankets, no socks, no....well, anything.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

if so, how is this war not over yet?

the Ukrainians (with 100+ billion dollars of Western money and so many of their weapons that countries are running out)..... cant defeat someone who has no socks?

I dont think this narrative sows what you think hoped it would.

Or did they just recently run out of socks?

-7 ( +5 / -12 )

one question-how is Putin doing?after that media have said that he have cancer, than some another serious sickness, than he is completely isolated and have couple of his doubles acting as him...no latest update to be find...?

There are indeed updates to be "found" if one has the cognition to look. Concrete details of the dwarf midget's health are difficult to confirm but clearly something is off. We will likely not know what is wrong until he is dead and we won't know he is dying until he is there.

But the idea that this is a Western troupe is a bit rich.

Now, to the question of how he is doing POLITICALLY, we have more data. The answer is "not so well". The approval in Mother Russia for having troops in Ukraine is 25%. 3 in 4 oppose the deployment.

Turns out having one's mighty "Army" exposed as a sham of corruption and incompetence, losing access to Western goods and vacations while the domestic economy craters, and consigning an entire generation to the risk of needless death based on a BS lie is (gasp!) not politically popular.

Who knew?

0 ( +5 / -5 )

Or did they just recently run out of socks?

They never had any to start with. This is known and knowable if one is intellectually rigourous enough to look.

What the Russians do have is a lot of "Combat Alfalfa", and defensive warfare is by it's very nature a longer type of war (or "Special Military Operation" if you prefer).

The Russians are worried, or so I am told by people who know, that Ukarine is going to manuver and get in a position whereby come the spirng they have the initiative and can expell Russia from all Ukraine including Crimea. The Russians are throwing cannon fodder at the problem to play for time.

But unclothed, untrained, poorly led "Combat Alfalfa" with no air cover, a declining edge in artillary and museum-era tanks are going to "struggle" to keep that from happening.

No body including myself is saying that a UA victory is a foregone conclusion, but the wind is clearly in their favor and no impartial military observer of any experience or merit would say "Oh sure, I would like to be the Russians right now." Nobody.

2 ( +8 / -6 )

P.J. O'Rouke!

That is the comedy writer I was trying to think of. He referred to the warriors of "The White Hand" of Saruman as "Combat Alfalfa" because they seem to be made to be reaped.

The Russians are fighting about as well as the Combat Alfalfa at Helm's Deep.

P.J. Funny guy.

So hereafter we will not call them "that word" (as using a mildly off-color term for a group that is invading, raping and murdering based on a BS lie is more offensive than the War Crimes they are committing). We will call them "Combat Alfalfa" because that is what these poor devils are.

Putin should come to his senses and sit down at the negotiation table before it’s too late. All he needs to do is admit defeat, pull the invading troops out, and negotiate about the costs to rebuild what they destroyed in the fiasco he’s calling “a special military operation.

-9 ( +4 / -13 )

Comedian President negotiate with Russia because Russia will not stop..

By "negotiate" with Russia, you really mean "capitulate" to Russia. They never negotiate in good faith. The Ukraine people are not Nazi's or led by Nazi's, so the demand to denazify is unachievable.

The demand to demilitarize is not going to happen after the prolonged invasion by Russia, Ukraine will buy as many modern Western weapons systems as it can afford once this conflict is over. The threat from another Russian invasion in the future is just too great no matter what assurances Putin gives.

Giving up 20% of the country to an invader is also not an option any Western nation would accept, so why should Ukraine? The invader can not be allowed to steal territory from another nation.

For failing to abide by UN's charter, Russia should be expelled from the UN and the UN Security Council. Losing their permanent place and Veto for good, even if readmitted to the UN in the future. No point in having a Charter when it is flagrantly ignored.

Ukraine fights on because with help, it has the means. It will not crumble in fear and give itself, or a large chunk of itself to a murdering invader. Freedom has a price that must from time to time be paid, or live life in servitude to others. That fight is happening now in Ukraine. Do not tell them to surrender or give in to Russia's demands. Respect their right to self determination in their own lands on their own terms.

He won't come to his senses, he's a lunatic.

All he needs to do is admit defeat,

He can't do this, so he probably shouldn't be asked to.

pull the invading troops out, and negotiate about the costs to rebuild what they destroyed in the fiasco he’s calling “a special military operation.

I fear he will only do this if he is compelled to do so. Hopefully his own immense personal wealth and that of his cronies from looting their own populace can be used to do this.
