What brings an active duty Master Sargent in the Special Forces to the point of doing something like this while on approved leave?
wallace
This terrorist and the one in New Orleans were in the same army regiment. Is the US military training terrorists?
bass4funk
The U.S. military doesn’t teach radical Islam.
Legrande
All that investment and training so he could go out like that? Gotta wonder what was going through his mind.
dagon
The picture crops out the big gold Trump hotel sign in front of the Cybertruck.

Probably already the defining picture of 2025.
wallace
The Tesla absorbed the explosion and the hotel windows weren't smashed.
Mr Kipling
Well, he was a recent convert to Islam so that would be a rather obvious place to start looking.

The suspect in the Tesla explosion in Vegas served in Ukraine
This is reported by the Associated Press. He has served in the army since 2006, had two tours in Afghanistan, and also served in Tajikistan, Georgia, and the Congo.
In addition, according to Las Vegas Sheriff Kevin McMahill, Matthew Lievelsberger served in Germany as an instructor training the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In the photo distributed on the Internet (the one where he is with a woman), he is wearing a T-shirt with a Glory to Ukraine print and a Ukrainian trident. That is, he either trained Ukrainian terrorists or was himself in Ukraine and killed Russian children...
bass4funk
Well, whatever it was he tried to accomplish won’t matter at all in sense of he’ll know about it.
Yrral
The US military has trained terrorists in the past Google The School of America
plasticmonkey
No he wasn't.
bass4funk
Yes, he was. He made Facebook videos saying he joined Isis, his ex wife said he converted to Islam and was becoming crazy and radicalized, he ran an Isis flag on his truck, and killed people in a clear act of terrorism. That is coming from his wife.
New Orleans terrorist suspect Shamsud-Din Jabbar’s ex-wife’s husband, Dwayne Marsh, confirms Jabbar had converted to Islam at some point and had been acting erratically, “being all crazy, cutting his hair” after converting, according to The New York Times.
Jabbar and his ex-wife, Nakedra Charrlle, share two daughters, ages 15 and 20. The “girls are a mess” following the terrorist attack Wednesday morning.
Marsh and Charrlle stopped allowing the young daughters to spend time with their father after his conversion to Islam.
quercetum
He wasn’t a good terrorist.
Desert Tortoise
Confused as usual. Try to focus here. The article and this discussion is not about Mr. Jabbar. It is about Matthew Livelsberger, active duty Master Sargent in the US Army. Two completely different people with different lives.
plasticmonkey
Wrong story.
plasticmonkey
Interesting how some people consider pointing out a fact to be worthy of downvoting.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Clearly not an explosives expert...
bass4funk
I’m the last person to be confused
Always
Deflection again? Ok, not going to help you’re weak argument though.
So you’re saying with a straight face these two attacks that happened simultaneously was just pure coincidence? Really? Well, you go and believe that, I don’t.
wallace
Was it a terrorist attack or was it suicide?
bass4funk
I think both.
Desert Tortoise
Sgt Livelsberger's social media posts expressed deep anger at the US withdrawal from Afghanistan claiming John Bolton and others were paid off for it. He also expressed anger at Democrafts.
His wife's social media posts, which ended in 2016 were strongly against Jupiter and the Republicans.
I would say at this point don't be too surprised if the motive for his attack had nothing to do with Islamic State.
Capuchin
"Chris Raia, FBI deputy assistant director, said Thursday that officials have found ‘no definitive link’ between the New Orleans attack and the truck explosion in Las Vegas." I'm pretty sure he had a straight face when he said that.
GuruMick
How does one convert to "radical Islam" ?
Online ?
I think the technology available to security agencies could do more to weed out and disrupt at least the online path to martyrdom.
bass4funk
I vehemently disagree, but we will find out soon enough.
Yes, in the same way one can become addicted to porn or gaming online.
If that’s the case then why can’t they completely stop Child porn? Yes?
Desert Tortoise
VPNs and TOR make that really tough to do. On my trips to China I am able to access all kinds of prohibited content, no restriction whatsoever.
plasticmonkey
The story is not about Mr. Jabbar.
Sgt Livelsberger was not a recent convert to Islam and did not join IS.
We’ll find out that you are wrong, though you’ll never admit it.
u_s__reamer
What brings an active duty Master Sargent in the Special Forces to the point of doing something like this while on approved leave?
Like many who go into the military this man had some serious issues.
plasticmonkey
Have fun with your beliefs.
Desert Tortoise
What a repulsive, defamatory thing to say. Shame on you !!! It is beneath you to say such a terrible thing.
All of my family except some of the women have served. My mother was in the Army during WWII. I served as did many of my cousins. The military has been the one and only place I have ever worked where honesty was expected and anything less punished. Every single private firm I have worked for outside the military with the exception of one motorcycle dealer was crooked, cheating the customer, the employees, their suppliers, cheating the tax authorities, breaking labor laws or any combination thereof. I guess in your book honor, integrity and loyalty are problems? That is what i saw in the military. Not the scheming crooks and thieves that populate the management suites of the places I worked outside the military.
bass4funk
Hmmm.
Hardly
bass4funk
He did, what’s wrong with pointing that out? Nothing wrong or repulsive about it. And I have family that served and still serving as well, not going to cut corners on this. The guy had serious problems, whatever they were and no matter how bad they were, he had no right to do what he did, anything else is just BS excuse.
Desert Tortoise
It was a broad brush indictment of everyone who joins the military. He basically said everybody who joins the military does so because they have some kind of problem. It is an ignorant and hateful thing to say. I still serve and know too many amazing people in leadership who do not have problems. Many are the most amazing leaders I have ever met. When I was a Lt on active duty in the Navy I had great people working for me. I had one or two who were problems but by and large the people I had could be given responsibility and trusted to do the job, do it right and do it with pride. I still see those same qualities in the active force today.
plasticmonkey
Hmmm is not evidence.
bass4funk
That he and his wife were Dems and Trump haters is though
Desert Tortoise
That was his first wife. Turns out he remarried in 2022 and became a new father last April. He expressed anger at the Afghan withdrawal. He was angry with John Bolton claiming he was paid off and angry with the Democrats. Members of his Special Forces unit claim he always said that Jupiter would do good things for the military. So nobody really knows the motivation for the attack yet.

"Livelsberger's wife told investigators her husband had been out of their Colorado Springs, Colorado, residence since around Christmas after a dispute over allegations of infidelity and said he would not hurt anyone, an official who had been briefed on the investigation told ABC News."

A Trump supporter
“When President Trump was in office (Livelsberger) would comment on his Facebook page about the things President Trump had said or done or how he’s helping the military,”
bass4funk
We all were angry, that will live with Biden forever, that will be always his black legacy.
Interesting. Still no justification nor does it resolve him for the crime he committed.
JJE
Read the slogan say on that shirt he is wearing in that photo circulating of him. Media outlets have published it - no big secret now.
bass4funk
We now know that wasn’t true.
And yet, his wife hated Trump, what an oxymoron is that??? Why would he park his car in front of Trump’s casino? Why would he shoot himself in the head first?
wallace
An active-duty US Army Green Beret, Livelsberger was on leave from his base in Germany at the time of the blast.

We made jokes about what we called "Westpac Widows". I can recall dancing with a lady at a club one night and her and her girlfriend suggesting we go to another place. So I followed them and noticed a SEAL Team sticker on the back bumper of her car. She took me to this joint crawling with SEALS. I flat out refused to dance with her and go the hell out as fast as I could run ! Got on my motorcycle and hauled you know what.
That stuff is real. It happens.
