wouldn't it be better to sterilise the cats instead?
From the very short text below the quote:
referring to the cat population on Shishijima island
Duh! I was making light of the ambiguous quote.
No surprise you struggle with sorting the wheat from the chaff.

Scholz is, as par for the course with technocrats and socialists, totally disingenuous in this action. He's not doing it to stem the tide of migration and the crime that some migrants commit. No, it's to try to tamp down the rise of his political rivals, the AfD. If Scholz gave a damn about his country, he would've shut the gates long ago.

They'd also need a good deal of savings to take with them. Australia is now a frightfully expensive place to live thanks to high prices for accommodation, food, fuel/transport, and utilities - all things that Japanese WH-makers will need to consider before going there. On top of that is the flagrant wage underpayment and agent skimming as Moonraker said. Without enough money, the dream will become a nightmare in no time at all, and they'll come back to Japan with a very negative impression of Australia.

It's one of the few government programs done well.
The big urban municipalities don't like it that much, but it's been a boon for the regions. We've directed some taxes to rural areas across Japan and have received some great stuff in return, like wild-caught salmon and scallops from Hokkaido, tasty Kagoshima beef, slightly wonky apples from Yamagata and Aomori, and heaps more.

Since the details of how this was done are missing from the story, I wonder how the accused did it. Intentionally coughing or sneezing on the victim?
In any case, it sets a dangerous precedent.
And what about those health authorities who shifted COVID patients from hospitals into aged care facilities, infecting thousands and resulting in thousands of deaths? They seem to have gotten off scot-free...

Raw BeerToday 04:03 pm JST
A major problem is that the dietary advice that is usually given is completely inadequate.
What dietary advice would you give these children?
Eat real food and cut the carbs. For obese people, they should ideally cut carbs completely.
Carnivore is good, but keto is fine too.
Their BMI will decrease faster and they'll be healthier than with these risky drugs.
Mate, I think you triggered the Dunning-Krueger Gang, a band of hapless outlaws terrorising JT with flaccid insults fired from their popguns.

Posted in: Weight loss drug safe, effective for under-12 kids: study See in context
I have a funny feeling this testing was done in low socioeconomic areas where parents are also overweight and, let's face it, not the sharpest knives in the drawer. As a result, the kids wouldn't be well supervised regarding the food they ate or exercise they did even if the parents themselves were given good dietary advice, because the parents either lacked understanding of the advice or the willpower to implement it. This risks skewing the outcomes of the control group to make the drug results look better.

Posted in: Australia introduces bill to step up fight against hate crimes See in context
What's going to be the legal standard for this? If it's anything like what's going on in the UK right now, this is a very dangerous path to take.
Offenders could get seven years in jail if the threats pose a danger to the government.
In what way? The Albanese government in particular, but others before it as well, have done a sterling job at posing a threat to the country's economic and social cohesion thanks to its disastrous economic and social policies that have driven up living costs to unprecedented levels, made it extremely difficult for younger Australians to buy a home, and flooded the country with immigrants. Would ridiculing them or posting a salty drunken rant on social media constitute a "danger to the government"? If the UK's precedents are a guide, this isn't out of the question. We all know how governments of any persuasion hate criticism.

If that's a lush park, I'm a monkey's uncle. It's better than nothing, but it's still just a patch of grass and a few trees, most of which will probably (if the rest of urban Japan is anything to go by) be pruned back to within an inch of their lives.
Anyone who thinks that's a "lush park" has never been outside of Japan.
It looks and feels better when experienced from the ground, and will certain improve once the trees grow out and hopefully aren't butchered with the usual Japanese standards of "pruning." I agree it's a stretch to call it lush right now, but lush is possible given time and good management.

But there already exists such a train! It's the Haruka limited express. How much time can this new proposed train shave off the existing journey time of 50 minutes? Will there be any other benefits besides a shorter travel time?
It seems the story includes some fuzzy information. Apparently Hankyu will run a line from Juso (near Shin Osaka) down through the temporarily named Kita Umeda under this new park, which will join the Naniwasuji subway line under construction and down to the airport. There's also talk of extending the line from Juso to Shin Osaka, but I'm not sure if that will happen.

Whatever people might say, it's a welcome addition to Umeda that the district sorely needed and I think they did a good job of adding greenery to the area. There's more that the photo doesn't capture.
Went there last weekend for a look and was pretty impressed with the first stage. There's also a shallow pond with water jets for kids to play in (visible at the bottom of the big grassy area in the photo) that my son went nuts over, so I think it'll be a popular spot for families during the warmer months.
