Hyper aware in a Japanese train. Lol.
None of my female family members have ever had any issues relating to harassment.
More than 95% of women never tell anyone even if asked. That includes husbands and fathers.
Do not diminish the victim’s experience of what is often a lifetime of pain.
Be smart and care: at least do a little research instead of relying on whatever you think is going on because ignorance is a big part of the problem.

I mean not everyone has a hero syndrome.
Sure, not 'everybody' but nobody? is the point I think that some are trying to make I think.
My Japanese partner says this has always been a problem in Japan.
'hero syndrom' which has a negative meaning (' a psychological phenomenon where someone seeks recognition for being a hero" ) is not what were talking about in this case obviously. We're talking about someone stepping up and saving lives.

I would suspect these statistics probably somewhat mirror global statistics in relation to teaching. What was once probably a pretty good middle class career has significantly dulled in appeal over the course of the last couple of decades. It would be interesting to hear what teachers think, but I hear lots of stories about entitled and demanding parents, poorly behaved students, long working hours, average pay etc etc.
Definitely a career I would steer my own kids well away from.
Is this based on empirical evidence or some research online, or is it just a wild assumption pulled out of thin air?
Japanese teachers have the lowest pay in the developed world, the longest hours, and the last time invested in teacher development.
Teachers in most other developed nations have far better pay, more time off, and better training and development.

This is trivia. I don’t know why it qualifies as news?
It is Japan, and column space needs to be filled. Not enough real crime, so they have to publish what they get...
What is 'real crime'?
The notion that Japan has less crime overall than other developed nations is a complete myth. While it has higher rates of certain crimes compared to the average, it also has lower rates of others. And you have the other factor of underreporting.

By allowing the government the power to execute its citizens, you are surrendering not only your own right to live but also that of your family members.
Indeed, most here don't realise what they're wishing for.
The Japanese judicial system can kill you or your family members if they choose at will, even if you or they are completely innocent.
Let that sink in before agreing to the death penalty.

Good on her for the courage to stand up for herself and grab him
Yes and that's why it's such an epidemic problem in Japan and why it's so common - these men know they can get away with it repeatedly and without consequences. They have groups and are organised and coordinate on some train lines. The fact that the public and media are oblivious to the scale of the problem and the downloading by authorities doesn't help.

This news report is the most bizarre thing given that hundreds if not thousands of women are sexually assaulted (or 'groped' as they like to downplay it here) every day.
97% of them never report it but authorities and jorunalustb are aware of the problem, I'm sure.

More fear mongering.
All these threats and articles are just so old and boring....the guy has been president before... is the brainwashing so powerful it can cause mass amnesia?
Whatever, election has been decided from day 1 anyway.
Not going to criticize the awful Biden administration (why beat a dead horse?) but the Democrats had FOUR years to find someone competent, skillful, energetic, someone who could bring people together once again.
But look what happened.
A president struggling to finish his term.
A party struggling to prop up an extremely unpopular candidate from day 1.
Congratulations but I will be flying to Washington to see our new President on Jan. 20th.
The lack of awareness of facts shown here and by some other posts is astounding.
Guys, the facts are out there and easy to find. Just search 'US economic prefimec past 4 years' or 'crime rates in the US'. Not hard.
Under Biden, the US recovered from COVID (and Trump's mismanagement of COVID) better than any other developed nation, with a healthy, growing economy, booming stock market, improved job numbers, and falling inflation (after peaking in early 2024 - faster than other nations).
Here you go:
Economic Achievements:
American Rescue Plan Act (2021): A $1.9 trillion stimulus package that provided relief to individuals, small businesses, and the economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (2021): A $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill that invested in roads, bridges, public transportation, and other infrastructure projects.
Build Back Better Act (2021): A $2.3 trillion reconciliation bill that aimed to address climate change, expand healthcare access, and promote economic growth.
Minimum Wage Increase (2022): Raised the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour, indexed to inflation, to help low-income workers.
Student Loan Forgiveness (2022): Announced a plan to forgive up to $20,000 in student loans for eligible borrowers, with income caps and other conditions.
Climate and Energy Achievements:
Rejoined the Paris Agreement (2021): Re-entered the international agreement to address climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Executive Order on Climate Action (2021): Issued an order to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by 50-52% by 2030, compared to 2005 levels.
Clean Energy Plan (2021): Introduced a plan to achieve 100% carbon-free electricity by 2035, with investments in wind, solar, and other clean energy sources.
Electric Vehicle Incentives (2022): Announced plans to create incentives for electric vehicle adoption, including tax credits and investments in charging infrastructure.
Climate Justice and Equity Plan (2022): Introduced a plan to address climate change disproportionately affecting low-income and minority communities.
Healthcare Achievements:
American Rescue Plan Act (2021): Included funding for Medicaid expansion and increased access to healthcare for low-income individuals and families.
Inflation Reduction Act (2022): Signed into law a bill that lowered prescription drug prices, increased funding for Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and expanded access to healthcare services.
Increased Funding for Mental Health (2022): Announced investments in mental health services, including increased funding for the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
Gun Safety Legislation (2022): Introduced background checks for all gun sales, closed loopholes in existing laws, and prohibited the sale of certain types of firearms.
Other Achievements:
Reformed the U.S. Immigration System (2022): Announced plans to reform the U.S. immigration system, including a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and increased border security measures.
Restored Diplomatic Relations with Taiwan (2022): Officially recognized Taiwan as a sovereign state, ending a Trump-era policy of not recognizing the country's status.
Signed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (2022): Signed a bill that addressed gun violence, including expanded background checks, red flag laws, and increased funding for mental health services.

This is a very good argument - I don't see any reason why foreigners should be differently treated from Japanese offenders AND their victims whose name and area where they are living are frequently mentioned in the Japanese press. Why should every crime committed by an US military serviceman be kept as a secret, solely because he or she are holding US-citizenship?
About this Swedish man, maybe Japanese press could report him as 'from Scandinavia' or EU citizen? Or is this also against ethical standards which are close to censorship?
No, they should report it the same way they do any resident of Japan, their occupation and location in Japan.

Well thats nice but for me a good hotel needs
1 Friendly staff
2 温泉や銭湯 public bath
3 Breakfast normally free
Usually all three of these describes the Route Inn one of the best Hotels in Japan and quite inexpensive.
'Friendly' service in Japan? Hmm, would you settle for very polite instead?
I have met the occasional friendly obaasan service staff at some hidden onsen, but otherwise, friendliness is not a character trait you are likely to find in Japan.
