Luckily he was arrested for this. It probably saved a lot of cruise passengers from a terrifying ordeal. This is why Japan bans guns for citizens and even the police don’t need guns in Japan because of the safety factor of Japan.

lol

I guess you haven't heard of the Yaukza.

According to the J-cops I worked with a few years ago they carry antique guns with one bullet.

Ever notice how if it’s a Japanese person it’s just ‘a man’, but if it’s a foreigner, they always make that absolutely clear? And ‘Kanagawa man’ isn’t the same as that could be also refer to a foreign born person living in Kanagawa.

Yes, this has been an ongoing issue in Japan.

It's hardly fair and promotes racial profiling and discrimination against foreigners in Japan.

The issue has been in the news here and overseas.

We were told to target foreigners': Ex-officer on systematic racial profiling by Japan police

There was a poll on this a few years ago in JT and a slight majority disagreed with including the nationality or 'foreigner' in news reports.

https://japantoday.com/category/poll/Do-you-think-it-is-appropriate-for-news-headlines-to-include-the-nationality-of-people-arrested-or-suspects-wanted-for-questioning-by-police-

True, but irrelevant to this news report. Stay on topic.

Nation wide,

*"According to recent reports, Japanese police receive a significant amount of lost cash, with figures reaching a record high of around 22.8 billion yen (approximately $146 million) in 2023, highlighting the high rate of honesty among the Japanese population when it comes to turning in lost items like cash. "*

Except for a few exceptions, the vast majority of people around the world hand in lost cash and belongings, so in reality no real difference between Japan and anywhere else .

In studies Switzerland, Norway and Sweden, Denmark, Portugal, and NZ tend to rank highest for civil honesty.

Yes, it's pretty standard in many countries for lost money and items to be returned to their owners.

But as far as I know, Japan's approach to retrieving lost property stands out as very meticulous and systematic.

No it's the tour leaders vault not giving instructions to go in smaller groups and spread out and wait.

Nonsense. Are you seriously suggesting that adults believe that it's OK to try and cross rail lines when the bells are ringing, lights are flashing and the barriers are coming down? Are you saying that despite all of this they believe that as their tour guides have not told them to stop they should cross anyway?

I don't think you have grasped the situation Harry.

Picture this; there's a long wide line of people ging back 100 metres before the track. The crowd is cheek to jowl and nobody can move until everyone moves in unison

The crowd moves forward and the track is filled with 100 people with 1,000 in front and 1,000 behind. Okay?

Now, the bell goes and you are in the middle - you can't go faster because the crowd is moving along slowly.

You WANT to get to the other side quick because there's a train coming. Can you? No! Why Harry, why?!

Is it because you an't be bothered or have bad manners? Or you just can't be bothered?

Where's the proof and how could you prove such a thing anyway - 'look see no records of lost baggage'

girl_in_tokyoToday  01:01 pm JST

People are beginning their comments by saying that hugging isn't a big deal.

You're condoning assault.

Women have the right to move through the world without a random stranger touching their body, in any way, shape, or form.

Why is that so hard for you to understand?

Well for starters (I know you know this), Japan has one of the worst gender equality levels in the world (ranked 146).

You think the protection of women from sexual assault is a high priority for the overwhelming majority of ojisan leadership?

Am I the only one noticing that while domestic violence is generally the male partner offending against the female partner, in Japan there seems to be more violence between parents and their children?

Comparatively speaking, I've always felt that families in Japan don’t seem to get along very well. Many Japanese people I’ve met have little to no relationship with their parents and siblings, which I haven’t noticed to such a degree anywhere else.

Any theories on what might cause this?

Is it related to the high mental health, high suicide, and low happiness levels in Japan?

Ah_soToday  07:38 am JST

Isn't it amazing that a Saturday night punch up can get into the news in Japan?

Sure, that might seem like a logical conclusion if you're new to Japan or not too familiar with how crime is reported to authorities and the media here. But news coverage doesn't reflect the actual crime or domestic violence levels, especially in Japan.
