Unfortunately, I think this will just disappear and mostly forgotten. I'm sure other politicians are just as guilty of similar.

I know that burger photo is the point of ad banning, but still, that looks like one of the saddest burgers I've ever seen.

Blame the parents ,they should be more responsible !

Yes and no on this one. I was really fat growing up. At the same time, I was my parents' first child and they thought they were doing a good thing allowing me to drink a carton of milk a day (this was as a baby). The doctors gave my parents the scolding of their lives. This was during the 70s, when I grew up on Mexican food that was fried with lard. Fast foward to the 90s durning my university years when one day, I came from a class kind of huffing and puffing during a normal walk. It was then that I decided to leave and find a gym. I worked off quite a bit of weight and even went to doctors for health checks on my weight loss progress.

Looking back on this, I kind of blamed my parents for them insisting that I eat well and finish my plate. However, I chose to do something about it and worked off the weight. My parents at the same time scaled back on their ingredients and chose a healthier way of eating (especially since my mom was diagnosed with diabetes and was afraid that I would get it, too.) Both parents are doing much better health wise and so am I.

Okay. Now we have eye glasses snatching; the new fetish in Japan. I can't seem to focus on this one. Can you give us more specs on this?

@browny1 - My thoughts exactly. I don't understand old Japanese couples.

Should be tried as adults. They knew what they were doing.

Girl who jumped off building roof, killing herself and pedestrian below, to be prosecuted

No disrespect to her or the judicial system, but how can you prosecute someone who has passed? Again, no disrespect, but that's like kicking a dead horse. What's the punishment and who would serve it? It doesn't make sense.

I felt it in the Kansai region. Just a soft and mild shake. No biggie.

I'm sure my stomach would cause an eruption just after eating that. No thanks!

Posted in: China expanding visa-free entry to more countries, including Japan See in context

That's one of the reasons why they're letting so many people visit visa-free. So that people can see the country with their own eyes and not rely on the western state propaganda. And that's why USA has a travel warning for US visitors daring to think about going there - they don't want their own citizens to see the real China, but just keep them ignorant. Too late. You can see all videos on YT. The lack of crime compared to the west, homelessness, abject poverty. And the improving state of health care, infrastructure and technology. Women can feel safe walking out on the streets by themselves.

As an American, I mostly rely on the locals of the country that I'm visiting rather than propoganda from the US. When I went there, I didn't have much problems, except for the dirty air in Beijing that caused some sharp back pains that I had. I was alright at department stores and outside of the city. The food was very good; especially the Peking Duck. That was soooo good and very affordable.

Posted in: Do you think trains and subways in Japan's major cities should operate 24 hours a day? See in context

Probably 95% of the people riding the train after midnight are folks coming home from a night out drinking. I don't see the need for everyone else to in effect subisdize that, let them walk or pay for a taxi.

You also have the folks that live at the Internet Cafes, too. I'm sure some of them will take residence on the trains, too.

That's my point. Let Japanese people pronounce katakana ingrish words in Japanese way.

Because that's not English.

Posted in: Japan reaches its lowest-ever ranking on Education First’s 2024 English Proficiency Index See in context

I remembered back in 2005 when I came to Japan. I watched the famous NOVA chicken commercial "This is an eeto, pen." the chicks responded "This is an eeto, pen." Later, "Eeto, irannai". "Eeto, iranai", and then the chicken teacher went crazy. From my current teaching position (junior/senior high school), I feel as though I don't have to spoon feed my students. However, there are those few (both in junior and senior high) who just as much as you try to help make things very very easy, they still won't get it. Worse, even their parents don't know what to do. Go figure.

Posted in: If tariffs were imposed permanently, then we would have to think about manufacturing cars in a country that is not subject to them. See in context

Two things I see with this. 1. Trump is testing the waters to see how much he can get away with and what kind of reaction he would get with the people. 2. Trump is completely nuts and most everyone (except his cult followers) knows it. Regarding his threat on mass deportations, The new Mexican President said that deportees will be well welcomed in Mexico and as a return, Mexico will deport the same amount of Americans back to the US. She really said this.

Posted in: Olympics 'above politics,' say LA 2028 organizers after Trump win See in context

There's always and will always be politics in the Olympics. It has since the beginning. For example, most people in Japan (especially Tokyo) didn't want the Olympics, but the big guy bullied his way to the board to go ahead with the games. Russia was banned from the Olympics, so the Russians gave themselves a different name to compete. Yup, there's always politics.

The farmers will be hit again by Trump's tariffs.

I'm sure that will be true. But unfortunately, some of these guys will STILL vote for Trump. There are some people who you can't fix.

No way with Trump! After the stuff he's pulled at rallies (more lies than Pinocchio) and all the racists ramps, forget it! My dad could do a far better job as President than this clown.

There's a lot of missing details here. I don't think it was a suicide because the guy's legs were taped. Yakuza related? Hard to tell because the was wearing a t-shirt and sweatpants. Very hard to tell. My guess, foul play.
