Posted in: In which industries do you think Japan is still a world leader? See in context

Chinese and Korean companies can only copy and don't create anything original.

After all, nothing they have created has made a significant contribution to modern humanity.

Yeah, China has only given us paper, gunpowder, the compass, cast iron....want me to go on?

Posted in: There is a serious labor shortage, mainly in the transportation and nursing care sectors. To maintain Japan’s society and economy, we need to have a perspective on how Japanese and foreign workers can coexist in harmony. See in context

There is no labor shortage in Japan. Rather, there is a shortage of people able and willing to work for ¥200,000 per month.

Compared to a thug like Roy Keane and a wokester like Linekar, Beckham is a decent candidate.

Posted in: Scientists in Japan develop plastic that dissolves in seawater within hours See in context

In a country which wraps bananas and oranges in plastic wrap, something like this is sorely needed.

Posted in: It is infuriating to walk around Tokyo the whole day, and not find a single bin to throw away your plastic wrapping from your sandwich. See in context

There are bins inside literally any convenience store.

Posted in: If you live in Japan, how often do you eat rice? See in context

Not much. Japanese rice is only good for sushi. Any other dish, and Basmati or Jasmine is far tastier and less stodgy.

Posted in: Making auto parts See in context

For how long Japan can sustain those factories? With inflation and wage increase, it much more make sense just to move production to China or Vietnam.

The Japanese just invite the Chinese and Vietnamese to Japan and then pay them 180,000 per month before taxes and other deductions.

I asked a Japanese medical student what he thought about Japan's use of trans-fats in so many foods. Crickets.

Posted in: Communication struggles in international marriages in Japan See in context

I know several foreign men married to Japanese women, and they’re like little kids. Can’t speak Japanese. Can’t speak with their own kids. Can’t even write their own address in Japanese. Absolutely weird.

Posted in: Nissan tells workers closure of key Oppama plant not decided See in context

Most of the affected workers aren’t even employees of Nissan. They all work for dispatch companies. Layoffs are a major reason why Japanese companies use dispatch workers in the first place.

Posted in: Japan considers expanding industries eligible for foreign skilled workers See in context

How about making a minimum 350,000 yen a month salary requirement

Agree 100%.

Sadly it won’t happen. I work in a skilled job involving high voltage power systems, and not even the Japanese around me earn that. They are all on ¥260,000 per month gross. Absolutely ridiculous.
