Hidankyo should be preaching to their own government over the ratification of TPNW and having the LDP government recognize ICAN who also received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017.

Okinawa has been talking about this for over a decade only to fall on deaf ears in Tokyo. It has only now become a thing because the folks in mainland are now directly affected. Even in this article there's no mention of how serious it is on Okinawa.

From what I saw on the video, the boy was being held down. Akin to waterboarding. Let's try it on this arse, and revoke his business license to operate his dojo.

Posted in: Man gets 8 years for dangerous driving resulting in death after charge upgraded See in context

If you heard his reason why he was driving so fast, you'd probably think that he should have received at least 20 years plus a hefty restitution to the surviving wife and without any chance of getting another driver's license...at least.

@Blacklabel - If your man trump had actually built the wall that Mexico was going to pay for in the first place, we wouldn't be in this position. The GOP controlled both houses and still couldn't get it done.

Posted in: Japan's weekly COVID-19 cases rise for 1st time in 3 months See in context

For those who are healthy and don't care about others, please note. I care, my son has an incurable condition that affects his immune system, my wife has asthma, my mother is 93, and my brother in law still has not recovered his sense of taste and smell back from when Omicron first started. I'm as healthy as can be, but I care because it's not only about me.

All those people in line didn't all just decide to do this. There was probably a big ad campaign to get these people's money. 七五三 is going to be another commercial holiday enterprise aimed at the lonely.

Manners 101. And for those Japanese harping about Ishiba, how about looking at your other Japanese compadres, like taking your hat off in the building, at the dinner table, or when entering a place of worship or a place of solemnity. How about not having your kid screaming and running around and causing a disturbance, or giving up your seat on the train. He's just another Japanese like y'all, and it was done out of ignorance. If this got your goat, wait till trump comes along.

Posted in: U.S. farmers brace for trade wars on Trump tariff pledges See in context

The information and past experience was always there, but farmers, like the majority of Amerika chose a racist rapist, lying criminal, white man over a black woman. Nobel economists had already publicly warned that trump's policies would further damage no only the U.S. but also the world economy. So, now the chickens will come home to roost, and the farmers will be on their own. Oh, and don't forget he doesn't believe in climate change so be prepared for Mother Nature to come back to ravage your crops on top of the economic hardships.

Posted in: Ishiba vows military buildup, deeper ties with U.S. as regional tension rises See in context

So Ishiba is going to follow in trump's footsteps.? Why would China want a war with the U.S.? It holds over $800 billion in U.S. debt and It's economy is weakening so there's no incentive for China to go to war with the U.S. Ishiba had better think and use those brains behind his shifty eyes or he could end up on the short end of the stick if he just blindly follows trump.

Posted in: A tiny grain of nuclear fuel is pulled from ruined Japanese nuclear plant, in a step toward cleanup See in context

Nuke power is cheap until it ain't. It is estimated that over the span of 30 - 40 years the total cost would be 190 billion USD. Funded by taxes and TEPCO, which incidentally passes the cost onto consumers through their utility bills. Don't believe those figures though, we all know what happened with the Tokyo Olympics and the gigantic cost overrun. TEPCO 's executives' compensation is also not published on their web site. So much for all the transparency the LDP and TEPCO were talking about.

Someone had better remind trump that Japan holds approximately $1.1 trillion in U.S. Treasury securities, and China holds around $800 billion to $900 billion. Not smart to be throwing rocks at people who hold your debt.

Posted in: Japan plans automated cargo transport system to relieve shortage of drivers See in context

Isn't this what JR Freight already does? Why not expand and improve on the already existing network and infrastructure rather than going through all the road construction and adding to congestion? Also, why not standardize the container size to be the same as JR containers? Every time they change modes of transportation, they'll have to unpack the container and transfer it to another sized container. How much carbon emission are we talking about to build up this new concept? Also start educating consumers that next day delivery comes at a premium, all this immediate gratification needs to be stopped.

Promises during the election when all he had was a "concept." So a panel of experts will hem and haw and carry on while real wages continue to drop. In the end, they will "encourage" employers to increase wages. Vote LDP, you got LDP Japan.

Posted in: Japan and EU announce security and defense partnership See in context

Couple of things I'm not clear about. The EU was established primarily as an economic and political union to promote economic integration, and to enhance the economies of its member states. Security would remain the responsibility of NATO.

There are several nations that are not members of both organizations, which creates the potential for conflicting interests.  How does Japan propose to deal with this?

The other part is all of this is about maintaining peace and stability. Borrell said, "We live in a very dangerous world. We live in a world of growing rivalries, climate accidents and threats of war. And there is only one antidote to this challenging world, which is partnerships among friends..." The key word in his statement is world. I understand partnership among friends but that's not the world. How about constant dialog with perceived adversaries? That would better encompass the meaning of the word, world.

Posted in: Chairman of TEPCO during Fukushima nuclear disaster dies at 84 See in context

Shimizu, the president of TEPCO at the time of the disaster has moved on to become a director of Fuji Oil, no financial restitution has been paid, and no LDP or government bureaucrats have been named in their failed nuclear policy and oversight. In other words, there has been no real accountability. Even the Tokyo Olympics which was dubbed the recovery Olympics for the Tohoku area was a farce.

Posted in: Worries for Japan's economy after election shock See in context

No shock. Almost par for the course. The LDP lost some seats, but the main corrupt player were all voted back in. The Japanese had a chance to make some real changes but chose to made a half assed decision...par for the course.

Israel says blah, blah blah, Israel alleges, blah, blah, blah.... And how many IDF members have committed war crimes that the Israeli government does not know about,? And the genocide that Natanyahu and his Likud party are perpetrating? Stop supplying them with weapons and ammunition and stop funding this madness. If they think that they can unilaterally bar UNRWA from doing their work, then boot Israel from the UN.
