Army Chief of Staff Gen. Park An-su, who briefly assumed the role of martial law commander, said Thursday that he learned of the martial law declaration through President Yoon Seok Yeol's public announcement on Tuesday night.

@travelbangaijin My complaint is too much Space Force and zero diplomacy. Agreements and treaties need to be drawn up but Blinken/Biden and other recent USA foreign relations teams prefer bombs and bluster to discussion.

The use of koji in many food and drinks is both healthy and delicious. Japanese nihonshu is the most refined of the koji using drinks.

(Chinese , Japanese kōji) which means mold used in fermented foods, was first mentioned in the Zhouli (Rites of the Zhou dynasty) in China in 300 BCE. Its development is a milestone in Chinese food technology, for it provides the conceptual framework for three major fermented soy foods: soy sauce, jiang/miso, and douchi, not to mention grain-based wines (including Japanese sake and Chinese huangjiu) and li (the Chinese forerunner of Japanese amazake). - Wiki

If you haven't already read the book, consider reading Chalmer Johnson's seminal work Blowback on the final chapter of USA empire. There is one chapter on Okinawa which applies directly to the USA military's overreach in Japan, Space Force being the latest example.

Got it. The Defense Minister forced the President to get on TV at 11 PM to declare martial law. All blame goes to defense minister. Nothing to see here!

I will drink to that on my upcoming, extended trip to Japan. The selection of nihonshu is getting better and better here in California but prices are often three times the cost compared to Japan.

Chinese calligraphy is already recognized as a UNESCO intangible heritage. Japanese calligraphy is well developed as well and is deserving of the status.

Yes, declaring martial law is the most democratic thing ever.

President Yoon may be a bit green politics wise, but he's the most dedicated to democratic institutions than all others that came before him

Buckle up. I see a Xi-ROK summit in the near future. The two economies are complementary so both sides win.

When Yoon is impeached or resigns his hand picked Prime Minister Han Duck-soo will lead an interim government. A special presidential election must then take place within 60 days.

Hey where are all the JT regular posters who have praised Yoon over and over again?

Yoon is an obstinate fool so he will try to cling onto office as long as he can but the clock is ticking and he will be impeached and removed from office unless he gets the military to support him.

Shocking, I know! An hour or two flight from major cities in eastern Mainland China and lo! the Taiwanese eat Chinese food, speak Chinese and follow Chinese customs.

Buildings look shabby in Taiwan compared to the modern cities in Mainland China but the locals are nice and friendly.

I have little doubt China prefers Taiwan, so much so one day refusing to leave.

I would need a third party confirmation of this. After all, Uncle Sam told the world Agent Orange was simply an herbicide that nobody needed to worry about.

However, these are different, they are not dangerous to civilians long after the war or conflict is over.
