RE: Immediate deportation of asylum seekers who cannot prove their refugee status within three months

I have a feeling that trying to PROVE refugee status in Japan would be the classic Catch 22.

These multiple arrests, detentions, interrogations and general harassment is Japan's way of saying

"Go home".

Easier said than done.

Today's Türkiye or Iran are pretty harsh on any one who has criticized the government, political/religious systems or insulted the country. We are not told their back stories.

These two asylum seekers probably have very good reasons to bear the treatment here in Japan over what that can expect if the "self deport".

That doesn't excuse the way that they have been treated.

Yes, 271 metres doesn't sound impressive. However altitude was not the goal .

As the first paragraph makes clear.

"Honda succeeded in a launch and landing test of its prototype reusable rocket on Tuesday, the Japanese company said in a surprise announcement, marking a milestone towards its 2029 goal of achieving a suborbital spaceflight."

The Honda engineers saw SpaceX's amazing technology and thought, "That is the direction we should go too."

RE: The Japanese Govt. is probably pushing Honda into rocketeering... wouldn't want the other top tier industrialized countries to think Japan has lost its edge. Me, I think Honda will be wasting a lot of money. Depending on how much Honda spends and where the money comes from, it might be time to sell your Honda shares.

Honda's relationship with the Japanese bureaucracy / government/ MITI is strained to say the least.

The government actually forbade Honda from exporting cars to the US in the early days and it was penalized for its attempts. Nevertheless Honda prevailed and succeeded, They are a pretty determined and stubborn bunch of engineers.

Granted, Japan seems to have lost its edge in some areas, but Honda plowed through and produced the HONDAJET. This is in a crowded competitive field where Honda again succeeded. Starting from scratch!

My point is Honda is not Japan. Honda is Honda.

RE: The panel, made up of experts in security, the economy, and science and technology, also calls for the full-fledged introduction of unmanned defense equipment using cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies, the sources said.

No mention of an expert in demographics.

About 20 years ago the "Foreign Affairs" journal identified the falling number of eligible recruits to be the biggest threat to Japan's future defense.

Because of the technical nature of modern defense/ offense systems these recruits will need to be highly educated and trained.

All industries will need young people with the same attributes .

Young people will have the choice of a reasonably well paid private sector employment or a poorly paid career in the military.

You can have all the fancy equipment in the world (from submarines to fighter planes) but you will still need staff to man and maintain them.

Japanese "beer" is not made from rice.

Maybe you are mistaking Beer from Happoshu.

"Japanese happoshu, also known as low-malt beer, is primarily made from a blend of malt, hops, yeast, and water, with the defining characteristic being a malt content of less than 67%. Unlike regular beer, happoshu can also include other ingredients such as rice, corn, sorghum, potatoes, starch, or sugar."

Posted in: Suzuki halts production of Swift over China's rare earth export curbs See in context

RE:China won't have their rare earth monopoly for long,

Not sure about that.

Rare earths are not rare, however extracting and refining them is an extremely dirty process.

Rare earths were mined and refined in the US up until fairly recently.

The reason that it ceased is the prohibitively high costs of controlling the devastating environmental impacts.

Many countries (Australia, Canada, Russia, Czech Republic) have the resources but are not prepared to pay the economic or environmental cost of extracting and processing rare earths

So, China DOES NOT have a monopoly. What it has is the system that allows them to skirt ALL of the safeguards thereby producing processed rare earths at an unbeatable price.

The west could theoretically process their own rare earths, but the hurdles are very high and therefore expensive.

Now,on the other hand, if the Whitehouse sees this as a National Security issue a large maker pen could see it done in a day. Or maybe not.

Great presentation.

Each time i visit my relative in Fukushima I come home with kilos of asparagus (which we freeze).

The color, head size. length. diameter and overall shape means that he can't send it to the local JA distributor.

Also, his contract with them prohibits him from selling directly to (online) customers.

He hates the present JA controlled system for the wastage and high consumer price that it creates.

I would like to "give it a like" but there is no Like button on this Youtube link.

Anyway. thanks for your well researched and presented report.

Can I request a run down on the skyrocketing rice price?

Who actually bought and hoarded the harvest?

Where is that hoarded rice now?

What roll has JA played in all of this?

Why did the previous minister for Agriculture protect the hoarders?

What does the introduction of stockpiled rice mean to Japanese rice farmers in the future.

All the best

I am not sure about Musk's complaints.

Some of the bills contents will lead to better efficiency.

For example , it will now be cheaper and easier to purchase a silencer for your pistol.

I call that "progressive" and so does the NRA.

https://thereload.com/house-republicans-add-silencer-deregulation-to-budget-bill/

"The devices have grown increasingly popular in recent years, and House Republicans project eliminating the tax on them would cut about $1.4 billion from the budget over 10 years. They are the most popular NFA item, with more than 4 million currently registered. More than half of those registrations were made over the past four years alone, according to the Congressional Sportsmen’s Foundation."

There was no legal obligation on the woman, a special permanent resident who does not possess a residence card, to present ID.

There is also no legal obligation on the hotel (or any business) to supply a service.

If that chain has had "runners" in the past, odds are that they introduced a system where (some) clients are requested to supply (hotel) acceptable ID.

By not obliging the hotel's policy, she has self-excluded herself.

She could have simple shown a driver's license and avoided being , "was deeply shocked and cried".

In Japan the prosecution relies heavily on a confession.

That is one reason why the conviction rate (of those actually prosecuted) is so high.

Yamagami has confessed, supplied a motive and the prosecutors have a weapon, manifesto and eye witnesses. Also Yamagami has been found mentally sound.

An open and shut cases if there ever was one.

That would lead us to think that the prosecutors (and the judiciary) have an undisclosed reason for NOT proceeding quickly with the trial.

There could be some very interesting witnesses called in this case.

I hope Yamagami has competent tenacious lawyers.
