Pets are same as children for many people. Many people spend too much money on pets.

10trillion gone in 3 days, no crash in history has been this brutal. Its like bear market x 5.

Last week was hard but Nikkei is up 6% today. Drop is opportunity to buy.

Japanese people don't want gas-guzzling american cars too big for their roads.

Some young people like US cars but yes they are very big and most Japanese dont find US cars suitable.

Nor do they want American food that makes people fat and unealthy.

This is not true. Many Japanese people like American food and shops like Costco, Mc Donalds, Starbucks are very busy. So you are wrong.

American immigrants in Japan might want those products. Japanese people do not.

You are not Japanese and don't speak for us. Me and all my friends love Costco and Starbucks.

Please dont pretend you speak for Japanese people.

Yes,why ? Japanese people dont need to buy more weapons or join NATO. We need to talk with our neighbors and diplomacy, we need to spend more on our people who have difficult time economically. Not spend more money on wepaons and military.

Posted in: Former top aide of Trump says tariff compromise with Japan on horizon See in context

I think Japan will negotiate its way out of this, but the effects of tariffs on other countries will be felt very heavily both by Japan and the U.S.

I think so too.

Seriously: why would Japanese consumers buy American foodstuffs that they know are disgusting and unhealthy?...

You can talk more with Japanese people and should ask them. Today is Sunday, every Costco in Japan is super busy with customers, same every weekend. Answer is obvious, everybody knows it.

. there's no demand for it.

How does poster who says he doesnt buy " disgusting and unhealthy American foodstuff " and doesnt go to Costco then know if there is demand for it or not ? Japanese people shop at Costco because prices are cheaper and they find some stuff that they can't buy in local supermarket. Every adult person knows that.

Great way to tick people off and great opportunity to embezzle money from tourists

I dont think 100-500 yen extra is problem for many tourists.

KantoQuestToday  08:05 am JST

Instead of doing this nonsense, just revoke the tourist sales tax free insanity, the gov can generate a lot more revenue way.

Yes, i agree with you on this idea, no problem for tourists to pay 10% sales tax, same as locals.

Japan selling out to the almighty tourist dollar, ruble, shekel, rupee

whatever currency, Japan will take it if there is a tourist involved. Sad.

Japan wants good relationship with everyone and make good business. Your country does not welcome normal tourists from many countries? You don't have to feel sad about Japan government choice. In your country you can do what you want.

All good people from all countries are welcome in Japan , from Ukraine, Russia, Europe, US Asia and everywhere. Tourists don't decide government policy.

Instead of いらっしゃいませ, Russian tourists should be greeted everywhere with "Slava Ukraini!"

There are Russian tourists in Asakusa , please go tell them. Tell us your experience result. But don't tell us what we should greet or not. Thank you.

Japan is good friend to America so this is unfortunate decision by president Trump. It's true that we also have high tariffs and tax on overseas products here, especially food. I hope for lower tariffs and cheaper food products in Japan supermarkets.

Posted in: Finland again ranked happiest country in world; U.S. falls to its lowest-ever position See in context

Why is Japan ranked so low?

Many Japanese people are not happy because we work hard long hours. Work rules are strict, many powerhara cases at work. Not enough free time for holidays, travel, hobby. Everything getting more expensive too.

the United States has dropped to its lowest-ever position at 24, having previously peaked at 11th place in 2012. The report states that the number of people dining alone in the United States has increased 53% over the past two decades.

Over past two decades this sentence says, but some people blame president Trump for this. They have obsession. I think people dining alone is increasing in many countries around the world.

Congratulations to Finland for No 1.

It has very good social system and pensions.
