Posted in: Japan residents with foreign roots raise voices over racial profiling See in context

I have only been stopped once. Answered their questions and got on with life. Maybe they should stop seeing problems that don’t exist. I often see them stop Japanese citizens and search their bags, so it is not only foreigners who are stopped.

Posted in: Japan, S Korea, Australia celebrate World Cup qualification See in context

All of the strongest teams from Asia have now qualified. I expect them all to do well. Hopefully the other regions best countries qualify for the World Cup. New Zealand will go in as the highest ranked team from the Oceania region as well. There will be some exciting world class games on display in the US next year.

Posted in: Triple-hosted World Cup: Huge ambition at a hefty cost to planet See in context

The World Cup of Soccer is getting bigger every year because more teams want to play in it. Next year will have a country like Canada which will be making a rare appearance in a World Cup. I think it might be the first time for them. This increases interest in the games. I think in the future, teams will play in local games and it will be a knockout tournament. This will solve the problem. Only the top two teams will play in the final. In America, they have conferences. The World Cup should do the same.

Posted in: Japan’s most popular curry rice restaurant chain losing customers as it raises prices See in context

I can buy curry at the supermarket and just boil it in water for ¥100. It tastes the same.

Posted in: Japanese police find 74 packets of cocaine inside foreign traveler complaining of stomach pains See in context

It sounds like she was smuggling the drugs for her foreign friends. Unfortunately many foreigners in Japan like to take drugs rather than enjoy their nights out. Hopefully they will search her phone contacts and arrest all her contacts in Japan too.

Australia just qualified for the World Championship with the win. Away games are always tougher to play well in. Japan did very well.

Posted in: 180 kg of brown rice stolen from farm in Fukushima Prefecture See in context

Unusual to hear of brown rice in Japan. Usually you can only buy Japanese white rice in stores. This must be a special order for overseas.

Posted in: Nintendo aims to match Switch success with new console See in context

It will be best to buy the Japanese version and then change the language in the settings. It works on most products. Usually there are many languages available. Hopefully they will be in the stores tomorrow to buy.

He will be the only one capable of pitching and hitting home runs. This will be unbelievable for us to watch. He will become the greatest ever in the history of baseball.

Posted in: Trump administration bars Harvard from enrolling foreign students See in context

Unfortunately America is very pro-Israel. This is why the foreign students have been banned. Hopefully some of the foreign students come to Japan, which has a very good graduate education producing many Nobel winners.

Posted in: Osaka police ask public for help on girl missing since 2003 See in context

They sound like two different cars a month apart. Hopefully they follow up on this with camera footage from the area at the time. I have seen police even use doorbell cameras to trace abductions.

Posted in: Starbucks Japan releases new convenience-store exclusive drink See in context

Summer is not strawberry season in Japan. That is why the price is very high. Hopefully they sell it during strawberry season at a cheaper price as strawberries are abundant during that time.

Posted in: Crying brought no mercy: Rescuing the children of the Aum cult See in context

How many have returned to the new cult and doing the same thing they were taught? Why did the parents leave their own children when they left the cult? This generation seems to only care about themselves.

Posted in: Subterranean safety valve protecting Tokyo metro from flood disaster See in context

I have never heard of the European room for river concept. Unfortunately, the article doesn’t give a description, so people have to research it themselves. Back to journalism 101 please.

Posted in: MLB reinstates Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson, making them Hall of Fame eligible See in context

This article states that they only received between 1% and 3% of votes when they were voted on. Doesn’t sound like they will be approved anytime soon. Maybe the movie guy will get in, because of the voters liking the movie.

Posted in: Japan rugby tightens eligibility rules on foreign-born players See in context

Very strange rule as Rugby is one sport where anyone can play for any country. It is a sport for the rich, where players are paid a lot of money to play for different countries. New Zealand have a lot of players from smaller Pacific islands playing for them.

Posted in: What happens if you go to prison in Japan? See in context

The best way to avoid prison is to follow the rules. This sounds simple but most foreigners aren’t able to do that. I have seen many foreigners take drugs and assault local people. Most of the fights I have seen in Japan involve foreigners.

This is very common in Europe with terror attacks. It sounds like he got the idea from these types of incidents. Why did he drive all the way to Osaka to kill the kids I wonder.

Posted in: Cold Stone permanently closing its final Tokyo branch, but why is the chain struggling in Japan? See in context

Japanese people don’t like junk food as much as in the home country of America. In America people have ice cream at least twice a day. In Japan it is about once a week. For most people Baskin Robbins is perfect because they have simple 31 flavors to choose from.

Posted in: Yakuza member arrested for renting a car once in 2022 See in context

I’ve never heard of Yakuza committing a crime, unless it was a movie from 50 years ago. Are they relevant in todays society where online crime is popular, and they don’t seem to have the skill to do it.

Posted in: Heartbroken Brits abandon pets as living costs bite See in context

Why would they get a pet if they don’t know how to look after it? This is a common problem for selfish people. They don’t have the right training to handle a pet. Luckily in Japan, people are more considerate before getting a pet. They walk them every day and take excellent care of their pets. Most cities have special dog runs for them. So Japan is a very pet friendly country.

Hopefully the parents of these kids take them to the Expo this summer. It would be unfortunate to miss out on this once in a lifetime event to see other cultures great exhibits. I have already met so many people from Tokyo who have already been and raved about the experience.
