What a big mistake by Nippon Steel to pay such huge sums for this acquisition. The way this unfolded, Nippon Steel seemed like they were being bullied by the Americans to give into many points that benefited US steel more. Although this is an acquisition by Nippon steel, they seem like a weaker party in this deal because any and all decisions they make can be ‘ Veto ‘ by the US Government through the golden share. Nippon steel won’t be able to take any independent decision making or control yet threw away 14.9 billion dollars in this deal.

The relevant authorities keep hiding the facts and make all reports on warning signs confidential. When the big one hits whether it’s in July or any other time, it’s the people who are brushing off the concept of earthquake happening in Japan, the unprepared foreign residents people ( most Japanese are always prepared ) and the tourist who decided to take unnecessary trip to Japan will complain and whine the most ( that’s if they survive )!
There is absolutely no harm in preparing yourself mentally and physically accepting the fact that the big earthquake is coming soon and stockpile your bottled water, canned food like corn, tuna for atleast a month supply. Then go on with your daily life. Just don’t laugh off and brush off the talk about earthquake as if it’s impossible.

People complaining here about cash handouts don’t realize that it’s the only thing that they can benefit from. Nothing will change if no cash handouts are given. Just be happy with the cash handouts instead of giving your options that Government should do this or do that instead because whatever you say will never be done by the Government. So if the Government is planning to give cash handouts you should just shut up and take it because it’s the only thing that can benefit you even if a little. Nothing else will change.

Posted in: Ishiba, Lee agree to build stable ties between Japan, S Korea See in context
As long as America is a close ally of Japan and South Korea, both these countries will never be able to build close relationships with other countries. It won’t benefit America so they won’t allow it to happen. Just look at Australia as few years ago their economy was thriving because of China who were their buyer of everything from beef, barley to wine. And America meddled by conspiring Australian government to develop bad relations with China and thus China put bans on beef, wine and Barley from Australia and these entire industries are on the verge of collapsing because no other country wants those products from Australia. Japan only buys bulk of its imports from America as per their agreement. America has its own beef, wine and barley. South American countries such ans Argentina and Uruguay also produces a lot of barley and beef which China switched to. The amount of products China used to buy from Australia is impossible for any other country to buy because of the large population of China. Australian Government bit the hand that was feeding them because of coziness towards America and now the local farmers, logistics industry and processing industries all suffer because of The USA. Other countries should take note and think what benefits them rather than just letting The USA dictate things!

While the average Japanese people struggle with the high rice prices, the Japanese taxpayers money of 2.6 billion US dollars ( 377 billion yen ) per year is being given to host the US military in Japan! And now Trump wants Japan to contribute for his “ Dome “! America keeps exploiting Japan for money and Japan keeps giving instead of making the life of their citizens better! If rice prices is high because of shortage then the Japanese government could have easily removed the ridiculous 341¥ per KG of rice temporarily to give the people options. But since in reality is there was never really a shortage of domestic rice since it’s just a trick that was used by JA who monopolize the rice sector to make rice prices higher! Rice production for the previous season ( and also the season before it ) has been much much higher than the consumption level but still the said there is rice shortage! Where did the leftover rice go??? They hid the leftover rice from the previous season harvest as well as the season before that in warehouses just to create the illusion of the rice shortage and increase rice prices!

I think this Japanese team played better than the usual Japan team. They were young and active and attacked a lot. The usual Japanese team like to sit back and play on the counter and play boring style. But they somehow get wins which are totally undeserving. It might be a good idea to build these young lads into a proper Japanese squad rather than those regulars.

White rice older than 2 years is mostly contaminated by fungi or mold, which produce mycotoxins that may cause food poisoning. People should do some research instead of getting all happy about the animal feed rice which is 4 years old being sold for more than 2,000¥ per 5kg!

He called it for what it is… foreigners commenting here all hyped up for the old stockpiled rice don’t even realize that most of the Japanese families won’t even bother buying that rice. Only foreigners living in Japan will buy those as they have no tastebuds! Bottom line is that rice prices will only go down if the Japanese Government removes the unrealistic import tax on rice from abroad ( at least temporarily ) just to get the stability in the rice supply in Japan.

The Japanese Government making its citizens eat 3 - 4 years old rice ( that is used for animal feed ) still at the high price of more than 2,000¥ instead of lowering the import tax on foreign rice is just shameful! If there is really a shortage of rice in Japan then why haven’t the Government made any efforts at all to at least temporarily remove import tax on foreign rice to stabilize the rice market! It makes one wonder if there really is a shortage of rice or it’s just that the retailers and middleman have got used to the greed and don’t want the rice prices to go back to the usual 1,500¥-2,500¥ per 5kg! Pure greed and nothing else!

New Japanese rice is being sold in Australia for around 15 Australian dollars ( 1,300¥ ) for 5kg in Asian shops. The reason is simple that the Japanese consumers have started paying the 4,000¥ and this greed has set in so the price will never go down to the old price of 1,500-2000¥ per 5kg!

With the import tax of 341¥ per kilogram of rice from abroad it’s still cheaper to buy those then the ones from japan being sold in supermarkets! If Japan really has a rice shortage issue then a simple solution would be for the Government to allow import of rice with lower taxes. In fact Japan doesn’t have a rice shortage issue but everyone from producers, wholesalers and retailers have realized that they can keep the rice prices at the current level or higher as greed has set in and they mislead the public into believing that there is a shortage of rice!
