Paying for tea or water in a country where quality of water is high is non sense. That is why green tea is offered in Japan in restaurant.

Plastic everywhere. Keep your bottle and make your own tea then.

It is just about soaking some dry tea leaves in hot water...

Posted in: Tokyoites push back against IT giants' encroaching data behemoths See in context

In my country France, many data centers are built in the middle of nowhere or not in cities at least.

There are data hubs in fact so except if they are data cloud servers for local Japanese companies, it does not need to be built in cities.

Sure it is about laziness and lack of foresight in urban management, which is standard in Japan, as explained by InspectorGadget above (Thanks !).

One good point though : a maximum of unavoidable energy can be used with a high recovery heat.

Normally that heat should be used for many purposes like heating and for industry process at cheap prices thanks to district heating. Problem is that Japan clearly lacks such facilities. Correct me if I am wrong.

So heat island effects are created instead...going against logic.

Posted in: Half of women in local assemblies have been harassed: study See in context

Unconscious bias, including traditional gender expectations like "women should take care of chores and children,"..

This is not at all a bias if in a couple man work and woman stays at home. It is a couple decision, no one else is forcing ladies to stay home like in some countries.

Promoting something as a bias does not make it a bias if it is a natural reality.

Government wants more people at work to pay taxes, whatever is good or not for any individual.

Posted in: Diet OKs pension reform law to ensure more contributions See in context

Base of Japanese paying premiums or taxes for pension will rise while pensions will get reduced .

How do you think a country with a continuous growing drop of population and at the same time growing debts is going to end sooner than later in a finite world ?

A 20 hours work per week threshold is dooming many Japanese to get poorer.

Why would such person stop ?

Japznese girls are so cute showing everywhere and no one will step to give a life lesson.

It does not happen so often in other countries because there is physical retaliation. Life is life.

I doubt he is risking much of time spent in prison and will carry on sooner than later.

Posted in: Japan residents with foreign roots raise voices over racial profiling See in context

If those were genuine Japanese, they would not complain and keep the harmony. "Paper" Japanese they are, always to complain about how they are harassed because they are different. THEY are so different.

No harm done, so what .

Japanese will just despise them more and show police were correct because Japanese would always keep low profile in such cases. Patience and stoicism are high Japanese traits ingrained in culture.

Japanese don’t want to change and it is their rights. I don’t like it for most but that is the way they are in their country. This has nothing to do with human rights.

Posted in: Japan’s most popular curry rice restaurant chain losing customers as it raises prices See in context

For foreigners, the 1000¥ threshold does not exist.

For Japanese, it has been now culturally ingrained in the decision to continue going to a restaturant.

Japanese yen dropping will not make prices remain low, except for your local Indian/Nepali who surely do not have same social costs to pay...

Posted in: Osaka expo water shows halted after detection of legionella bacteria See in context

Something is very wrong :

Legionella bacteria do not develop in sea water...only fresh water.

I imagine there must have been some heavy raining, then some layer of water must have been created because water was stagnant. Or contamination.

Normally, the tech guy that takes the water for analysis is not supposed to take some very small sample, like the thin top layer, which cannot be representing the real level of such bacteria sent into air because it iwill become sea water killing the bacteria...once mixed at general level.

By the way, the risk exists only by inhalation (ex : wet cooling towers or any air diffuser), not ingestion.

The illness from that bacteria is legionnaires’disease, aka legionellosis.

Posted in: Japan births in 2024 fall below 700,000 for first time See in context

So many optimistic comments while cliff is getting closer.

Again even if fertility rate would by magic raise to 2.1 tomorrow for Japan, it won’t stop the fall at all for the next 20 years at least.

Figures : 1 .605 - 686 equals a loss of 919 thousand in 2024. It was 838 in 2013 ! Please check.

Eating popcorn for countries like Japan. Many are going to be surprised soon about what a geometric progression is in maths applied to a population in the long run. With effect on taxes and income very high...

I will flee better if I was drunk riding a bile. If you can ride a bike, you are not that drunk I can tell you. If you can’t flee, you are.

Police surely wanted to know more and just had nothing else to do.

It happened in Japan I found once a guy sleeping on a little road on its part with bad lighting so you could no see him No one cared except me...

With 0.15mg/l, everyone is drunk all the time after any izakaya.

The only solution is very natural : an educated man reminds the entrepreneurial spirited man that there are bounds to everyday decency.

At the same time, most men would check kinky videos suggested on the spot when browsing.

Also everyone needs to remember that what can be seen with a camera can most of the time be seen with eyes;)

Posted in: Teen girl jumps to her death from building after meeting boys on suicide website See in context

Never heard of suicide websites in my country.

My country authorities hunt them and people report them on the spot too so they cannot exist, except if those kids knew how to access the darknet which I highly doubt.

Japan and generally its people are accepting those dire fates and it is so sad.

It is cultural by the waya and so taboo in Japan.

We have the answer where freedom is best served.

Japan is also part of those countries and level of cybersecurity is far too low to ensure correct functioning of a country. Especially one prone to earthquakes by the way.

If he had stored by the smell, JT would not have reported it

A inoffensive but heavy thief pervert.

How come you detain someone because one has suspicious behavior ?

And how did that lead to give a search warrant ?

Mudt be with CCTV’s help.

And no woman ever repoeted to police apparently.

So strange story without real logic.

Posted in: Woman arrested for drowning 4-month-old baby son See in context

How on Earth can you kill your own baby after a few months ?

Not so long time ago she would have considered a witch and taken care of.

Or is it she was literally abandoned by the system : on her own since being pregnant, not aware about meaning of family, no family and no follow-up until that day she decided to call.

Very good question always about the father’s absence. Is it rape or sex industry because I sincerely doubt it is just from a breakup after several years from boyfriend.

If no analysis, no real help can be provided and in particular direct provision of a morning pill at reduced price and without police like questioning.

Yet she did kill her 4 month old baby for no reason.

RIP

Posted in: Number of tourists to Japan soars 28.5% in April to record 3.9 mil See in context

Problem of Japan is its limited road system.

Shinkansen were sometimes already full some 10 years ago, even though running every few minutes.

It seems impossible to multiply tourist buses and park them anywhere.

Think of Versailles which has a huge parking in front of it.

Otherwise tourists are for the rest just replacing the loss of population with time (about 1 million per year now !)

By the way, the true economic tourist indicator is not the number of tourists, it is the total of night stays from tourists.
